JKR being uncharacteristically quiet

1000 replies

Jdugsgsgwyd · 17/08/2024 14:42

Anyone else noticed since the news that JKR is being sued by Imane Khelif she's been very quiet, unless I'm mistaken she's hasn't tweeted at all in about a week.

and hasn't responded at all to the legal action being taken against her. This is very unlike her, I'm thinking she's been advised by her lawyers to keep quiet. Anyone else think she might have put her foot in it this time?

You are disgusting.

He's not female. He went through male puberty.

is that proven?

Ramblomatic · 17/08/2024 16:07

The IOC don't test for anything. The ITA do. And it's a T/E test, not a testosterone level test, because it's not unusual for an elite female athlete to have high (male level) T.

Genuine question - Have you ever watched Imane box? Do you think she has a pronounced physical advantage over her opponents in terms of her speed and power?

I did watch a couple of the matches but I really don't know enough about boxing to know whether someone is a good boxer or just has a physical advantage. I did notice that the commentary on both Lin and Khelif matches seemed to be all about their reach.
Do the ITA test before or after a bout?

You are disgusting.

What is disgusting is bullying a woman because of how they look and a potential difference in sex development. Which is what JKR has been up to. Hence the law suit.

DadJoke · 17/08/2024 16:15

I think IK deserves another gold medal for turning off the hose of transphobia for a few days.

But she is female. She is female with some physical differences that may or may not give her a sporting advantage (possibly, because again we don't know, this is all speculation, and once again anyone here stating confidently that they know what her biology is is talking out their arses). So for rational people who aren't mired down in wanting to call someone who was born female and raised female a man because she doesn't fit into their binary boxes, the conversation has moved beyond the question of is she a man or woman (because we know she is a woman), and has become a conversation about the fairness of individuals with natural physical advantage competing in sports. And the fact is, usually if someone has a natural physical advantage that makes them better at a sport, we don't disqualify them, we celebrate them. Especially if they are men. There's a huge amount of misogyny on top of everything else in the way Khelif has been singled out and talked about.

All that said though, while Khelif has obviously done extremely well this year it's interesting that she hasn't actually been particularly outstanding or dominating for her whole career, and actually has been beaten multiple times before by other women, including one of the women she defeated this time around. So perhaps she doesn't even have an outstanding natural advantage either.

On one hand you state "she's female" and on the other you acknowledge there's a lot of speculation going on. We don't know that Khelif is female as, I'm prepared to bet, that no one on this thread has seen IKs medical records.

Being "raised female" is irrelevant to their eligibility to compete. They could have been incorrectly sexed at birth. That would be a distressing situation but still wouldn't make them eligible to compete if they have XY chromosomes.

Quote one thing JKR has said or done that is transphobic.
Be specific.

BeyondOlympicLevelProcrastinator · 17/08/2024 16:16

Khelif's appeal against the IBA was withdrawn when his own team did tests and found his karyotype and testosterone level were "anomalous" - aka male.

At least argue that you agree with "biologically male women" in female sport. Because to keep at the reds under the bed argument when HIS OWN MEDICAL TEAM have confirmed what the IBA hinted at, is ridiculous.

You should enter that competition Tandora with evidence that she’s a big transphobe. You’ve yet to evidence it here mind but you should give it a bash.

SiobhanSharpe · 17/08/2024 16:16

We don't know for a fact that Khelif has external female genitals. There is a DSD in males which means they are born with a 'micro-penis' which can lead to it being mistaken for a clitoris, or if it is recognised to be a penis, medics and family might decide that being raised as a female would be better for such an individual.
I believe it is extremely unlikely that such individuals will have ovaries or a uterus even if they have what might appear to be female external genitalia.

In women's sports, having a male skeleton androgenised at puberty is a significant differentiator. It gives male participants a far greater advantage over female than, for example, Michael Phelp's physiology gives him over other men.

I think Phelp's advantage is something like < 1%, while a male punch is >150% more powerful than a female's. A <1% advantage can be outcompeted by somone with better skills, a >150% advantage is a whole other level.

Viviennemary · 17/08/2024 15:57

Is that a threat.

Not at all. What a strange response...

Just meant that, from what I've read/seen/heard, people form their opinions on JK Rowling based on how they feel about what she's said not on whether what she's said is factually incorrect.

So all I'm saying is that any examples of her being a 'pain in the neck' and an 'arrogant bully' should be based on facts not feelings.

it’s not though. Which is part of why she was eligible to compete in olympics.

heathspeedwell · 17/08/2024 16:19

Bromptotoo · 17/08/2024 16:13

is that proven?

His own coach has now said that a hospital in Paris said Khelif has chromosomal abnormalities and high testosterone.

What other DSD could it possibly be apart from 5 ARD?

Dygger · 17/08/2024 16:19

Quitelikeit · 17/08/2024 15:00

This is not black and white.

The boxer, has female genitalia, was raised as a female and lives as one.

Apparently she was born with testis inside her and that increased her testosterone.

So this is not as simple as a man being allowed to box as a female.

I think it was dreadful the way JKR spoke out when all things considered this boxer was not a man! Which is why she was probably allowed to box in the first place

No, it's very simple: the boxer was not born with female genitalia and he appears to have male genitalia now. He can be seen fishing down his boxing shorts to adjust his tackle in a couple of videos. Previous DNA tests have shown he has XY chromosomes (male) and he's refused to have another test to decide the issue. You can go on denying science as much as you like, but anyone can see he's male.

halava · 17/08/2024 14:54

All Imane has to do is a DNA/swab test and then everyone will know if he is a man or not.

How could a court case succeed unless the plaintiff can prove they are who the defendant says they are not?

But that may not be the entire substance of the suit.

This would be an interesting court case, don’t you think?
It’ll depend on how they define ‘man’
If it’s anything other than XY chromosomes then I will know the world has gone mad.
But we all know that the question ‘what is a man’ or ‘what is a woman’ is one that some people just can’t seem to answer these days

I kind of hope he does sue her and that it gets to court, and of course hoping that he gets absolutely nowhere with it

Dygger · 17/08/2024 16:20

Hence the law suit.

There is no law suit.

StealthSpinach · 17/08/2024 16:21

There is a genuine offer of £1 Million for anyone who can provide evidence of JKRs “transphobia”.

If there is anything transphobic by JKR, then why has no one has been able to claim the money? It is still available - go for it!
