JKR being uncharacteristically quiet

Jdugsgsgwyd · 17/08/2024 14:42

Anyone else noticed since the news that JKR is being sued by Imane Khelif she's been very quiet, unless I'm mistaken she's hasn't tweeted at all in about a week.

and hasn't responded at all to the legal action being taken against her. This is very unlike her, I'm thinking she's been advised by her lawyers to keep quiet. Anyone else think she might have put her foot in it this time?

Once again, god grant me the confidence of a GC mumsnetter talking about a total stranger's genitals

I never mentioned genitals ......

We've already established in this thread that you can be XY and still be female. Of course we didn't manage to establish this until I provided evidence of XY women giving birth - then suddenly the true mark of what makes someone male became something else. Just because we're talking about boxing doesn't mean you can't shift the goalposts apparently.

IK’s own coach has confirmed they have naturally male levels of testosterone and that means they have testicles and definitely do not have Swyer

Who needs chromosome tests when you can just ask ChishiyaBat to look at the way someone carries themselves and tell you if it "screams male". Can the rest of us hear this screaming, or is it just in your head?

Genuinely this is bollocks though, and it's straight back into misogynistic views about what women "should" look like and behave like, something female athletes have been scrutinised over since time immemorial, because people don't expect women to look physically powerful or to walk confidently or to dare take up space in the world.

You are so rude! Humans are very good at identifying someones sex just by looking, around 94% correct if I remember correctly.
So no it's not bollocks, people do it every day without even thinking about it, based on face, body and body language.it's got nothing to do with not expecting females to look physically powerful, or walk confidently etc. I walk confidently, I know very powerful looking women, but you can still tell we are female.

I think professional boxers would take issue at your description of their sport as ‘beating up’.

You would be perfectly happy for a woman to get beaten up so long as it’s another woman doing the beating, I suppose?

I mean it’s fair enough if you don’t like boxing or aggressive martial arts in general, but let’s not cloud the issue here. We’re talking sport, not domestic violence.

Very much this. There's been lots of "Did you know women get hit??? In this sport to determine who is best at hitting???? Do you LIKE IT when women get hit???". It's very disingenuous. With a strong undercurrent of disapproval at the concept of women boxing at all.

Read the whole thread, lots and lots and lots of people have been talking about genitals.

But you quoted me. And I wasn't.

Is this all getting a bit much for you?

Yes, you already said, you can tell because of the screaming.

Women boxers have not consented to being hit by males. I'm not sure why you are dismissing this.

Oh come on now, it’s quite simple. Don’t be disingenuous. I thought we were getting somewhere there. I’m quite happy to try to understand your position but if you’re just going to be silly there’s not much point trying to engage.

Sincerely. I don’t really know what it means, or the purpose in asking it? Well it seems the purpose in asking it is to try to prove your point that being trans is just make-believe ?

But logically, what is the question?

Do I believe that some people are trans? Yes.

Do I think that sex is a simple, unitary, binary? - no, it evidently isn’t, hence the scandal regarding this boxer. Although there is a powerful reproductive binary that underwrites sex development, sex is complex process of development with multiple components, with variations and diversity that is produced at each stage. Many of these variations have only become visible in fairly recent history with the invention of complex medical technologies ; it is very possible that there is far more yet to be discovered about the complex biology of sex development.

Do I believe that trans people, and people with DSDs (and cisgender and sex- typical people!) can take hormonal therapies that can alter their secondary sex characteristics ? yes.

Can people also have chest and “bottom” surgeries that alter the external structure of their anatomy? Yes. Can people have surgeries that alter their internal reproductive structures? Yes.

Can you legally change your sex? Well that depends on the country, but in the UK you can. Can you socially change your sex? Of course.

Does this answer your question?

Well I am just a fragile emotional woman so clearly I need to go and lie down in a darkened room with my chromosomes or something.

Then you'll be so relieved to hear that isn't what's been happening. JK was wrong. Phew all round.

How on earth could you say this with any certainty, when the only criteria is an F on the passport? It's actually really shocking to hear people dismiss women's basic safety like this.

😂😂😂. Yes. And Definitely don’t get involved in any contact sports. As a woman (which is anyone with a vagina unless you have a vagina but aren’t really a woman, but you def can’t have XY chromosomes except some women do, and a woman is an adult human female because sex is binary , observed at birth and never assigned- except when it’s incorrectly observed because it’s ambiguous and then wrongly assigned) because you are far too feeble and fragile for that.

But at least I don't have a screaming manly gait, which it turns out is the ultimate test of maleness.

You don't know what genitalia they have.
"To all intents and purposes is a woman" is absolutely meaningless.
Are you claiming being "raised as one" makes you a woman? It does not.
Believing you are a woman also does not make you one.
Khelif and Lin both failed sex tests. They have seen the results. So they may have no control over their biology, but they made a choice to go ahead and fight females because the IOC only requires an "F" on a passport.
The choice to fight women knowing they have male physiology and have gone through male puberty is what they're being criticised for. That choice wasn't outwith their control.

And yet until fairly recently she repeatedly lost fights to other women.

So either she's not unusually powerful, or lots of women are as powerful as men.

ThreeWordHarpy · 17/08/2024 23:17

There’s a road I walk down daily, and I go under a bridge towards the sun so anyone coming towards me is in silhouette. I’ve been paying attention recently and I have a 100% success rate recognising the sex of the person before they emerge from the shadow. I believe the scientists who say gait and body shape are dependent on biological sex because I’ve been observing it myself.
