JKR being uncharacteristically quiet

1000 replies

Jdugsgsgwyd · 17/08/2024 14:42

Anyone else noticed since the news that JKR is being sued by Imane Khelif she's been very quiet, unless I'm mistaken she's hasn't tweeted at all in about a week.

and hasn't responded at all to the legal action being taken against her. This is very unlike her, I'm thinking she's been advised by her lawyers to keep quiet. Anyone else think she might have put her foot in it this time?

We have been through all this with Caster Semenya ffs.

Dygger · 17/08/2024 16:57

FreedomDogs · 17/08/2024 16:34

This. And ultimately individuals with DSDs prove that, and honestly I suspect strongly that is the reason behind JKR and other gender critical voices, supposedly feminist, being so keen to attack an elite sportswoman - because gender critical ideology hinges on the belief sex is simple and binary but then pesky reality comes along and proves that it isn't, and it undermines their whole worldview. And then suddenly men can have vaginas after all.

Nope. The fact that a tiny percentage of people are born with no legs or only one eye doesn't mean that we need to change our understanding that the human species is bipedal or two-eyed. The fact that a few people develop abnormally in utero because of chromosomal issues and are born with ambiguous genitalia doesn't mean that sex isn't binary. A DNA test of those babies will show whether they are male or female karyotypes. No one's worldview is undermined. Come on, we expect better standards of arguing around here. You're trotting out the sort of nonsense we've been knocking on the head since 2019.

You see, comparing trans women to the Taliban is horribly transphobic. Even you must know that.

Taylor Swift is a solid supporter of trans rights. She’s not being attacked from the left for bigotry.

Most people dislike Moldemort because she is a transphobic bigot. She absolutely does not deserve the horrible threats prominent women get regardless of their views, but she can at least enjoy the support of prominent neo-Nazis, Vladimir Putin and Matt Walsh.

Transphobic = can tell what reality is.

It's a positive virtue.

When you devalue a word you lose it's ability to shock, shame or for anyone reasonable to give a crap about your feelings.

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 17/08/2024 16:58

I hope she's having a lovely holiday (and hurrying the fuck up with the new book)

Errors · 17/08/2024 16:58

DadJoke · 17/08/2024 16:34

The way that works is that we show you something transphobic, and you say it’s not transphobic, so, no.

People redefine their bigotry because they don’t like to think of themselves as bigots.

If I said that we can’t trust women nurses because of Lucy Letby, would you consider that misogynistic?

No, the way this will work is that you will show us something that’s not transphobic and we will say it’s not transphobic because… it’s not transphobic.

Struggling to keep up with the speed of this thread but has anyone actually tried to post anything JKR has said that is transphobic yet??

FreedomDogs · 17/08/2024 16:51

Once again the rules shift when it becomes convenient to the gender critical argument. I thought the concept of birth sex not aligning with identity was one usually treated with derision, along with the suggestion men can have vaginas? Until you find someone you have a burning need to misgender then suddenly the rules change.

You need to prove that Imane has a vagina if that's a part of your argument. I won't hold my breath though, or I'll die.

FreedomDogs · 17/08/2024 16:58

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 17/08/2024 16:41

And to be honest, the same motley crew of ‘you’re all big transphobes’ but never actually provide any examples other than saying men can’t become women, don’t deserve anything more than a sigh.

The person you sighed at didn't say "you're all big transphobes" they said "human biology isn't that simple". Which is rather borne pit by the fact someone can have female anatomy and XY chromosomes.

Ramblomatic · 17/08/2024 16:59

spannasaurus · 17/08/2024 16:14

I did watch a couple of the matches but I really don't know enough about boxing to know whether someone is a good boxer or just has a physical advantage. I did notice that the commentary on both Lin and Khelif matches seemed to be all about their reach.
Do the ITA test before or after a bout?

There's constant testing (24 hour, random) as soon as you're 'in competition'...which I believe is a week either side of the games. There's also additional testing for anyone deemed 'high risk' (so presumably she'd fall into this, but not sure).

Immediate pre/post fight testing is mostly about catching people for drugs of abuse or performance enhancing drugs. They keep 'biological passports' on athletes now for general stuff.

As someone who has worked/competed in combat sports for 20 years, I'm confident in saying she has no discernible power/speed advantage over anyone I've seen her box.

Reach is a big factor in boxing, especially amateur. The vast majority of bouts go to the score cards, and you're judged on clean punches landed. With only a small number of rounds, a boxer who can sit on the outside and snap off long, straight, accurate punches can do really well.

But by the same note, against a shorter, inside fighter, the long limbs can become a disadvantage once their opponent has closed the distance.

Ultimately amateur boxing is much more of a skill sport than a damage sport.

I think the thread kind of got away from us here 😅

I'm sure that wasn't your intention at all 🙄.

Tandora · 17/08/2024 17:00

DadJoke · 17/08/2024 16:56

I’ve given you everything you need - read her Twitter feed. I don’t want to play the gender critical “nothing is transphobic” game.

And, of course, you notably avoided my question.

I don’t want to play the gender critical “nothing is transphobic” game

👏🏻. I’ve made the mistake of playing it far too many times. Happens on every thread.

Well the evidence we have of that was she was assigned female at birth. This is fairly solid evidence as it’s the basis on which (female) sex is almost always assigned.

Apparently we have to go and find it ourselves. I mean, I could go with £1m, so if it was possible, I'd have done it by now!

They do an external inspection at birth. The vagina is inside your body. Somebody needs to go back to school!

You don’t seem to know what a vagina is.

FreedomDogs · 17/08/2024 17:03

NoWordForFluffy · 17/08/2024 16:58

You need to prove that Imane has a vagina if that's a part of your argument. I won't hold my breath though, or I'll die.

Khelif has an Algerian passport with an F on it. Algeria does not issue passports with an F on to people who weren't assigned female at birth. Birth sex is usually assigned based on genitalia. Ergo is it highly highly highly likely Khelif has female genitalia.

This is further evidenced by the fact we know from her family history that she was raised as a girl, which is a highly highly unlikely state of affairs if she doesn't at least physically appear to be female. Therefore unless you're proposing there has been some grand multilayered conspiracy to conceal a child's penis from birth in order to win a hypothetical future boxing match, we can be pretty confident Imane does indeed have a vagina.

Quite. Except Caster wasn't smashed the faces of women with a boxing glove.

It actually wasn't, the purpose of the thread was in my OP, that's what I wanted to talk about. You'll notice I haven't engaged in any of the trans debate on here because again, that wasn't the point of the thread

Smashing a woman's skull in

She's a boxer.

It's fascinating how much misogyny there is in the arguments against Khelif - not least the multiple people who want to imply there's something suspiciously unwomanly about wanting to be a boxer at all.

Why not just come out and say it if you think woman shouldn't box?

Is this a very poor attempt at deflection?

Dumbledoreslemonsherbets · 17/08/2024 17:05

If I had to guess which posters would fail basic female anatomy, I'd be right. 😁

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 17/08/2024 17:05

Tandora · 17/08/2024 16:30

At this point the word "transphobic" has ceased to have any meaning because even basic biology is transphobic

No. not hating on trans people and people with DSDs is very much compatible with an understanding of biology. Also biology is not “basic” but complicated.

It's not hate to say that biologically male people shouldn't be competing in women's sporting categories.

Using the word "hate" in this way is making the word as meaningless as "transphobic".

It's an external inspection of what is likely to have been an ambiguous presentation of secondary sex characteristics.

A vagina is internal. We aren't checked internally at birth. You also need a biology lesson.

FreedomDogs · 17/08/2024 16:53

And yet notably, as the original post pointed out, far from standing up for her beliefs and reiterating her point, JKR has gone noticably quiet on the subject

What part of:

I'll offer you another idea to consider. "Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake."

did you not understand?

FreedomDogs · 17/08/2024 17:06

Rymeswithpunt · 17/08/2024 17:04

Is this a very poor attempt at deflection?

No, it's an utterly relevant point. That poster implied there was something fundamentally unwomanly about competing in a boxing match and they're not the first person I've seen do so.

spannasaurus · 17/08/2024 17:06

Hellofabore? What rubbish?
You just don't like her because she can back up her assertions with evidence

I don't think she's that clever tbh.
