Disgusting or Not?

BargingOnBy · 13/08/2024 10:08

My partner has the habit of washing his hands and his arms up to the elbows at the kitchen sink and then drying them with the hand towel in the kitchen. He has very hairy arms.

AIBU to think this is disgusting and the hand towel in the kitchen should only be used for drying hands, not other hairy body parts?

I don’t feel that it is hygienic to handle food after I have washed my hands and dried them on the same hand towel that he has used.

Definitely a school holiday post

I’m in my 50s

Not really. It’s more about washing body parts other than hands in the kitchen and drying them on the hand towel.

Call it a hand and arm towel problem solved

I don’t think I am struggling to cope though

Can't be arsed to wash or change for several days....classic sign

OP just catching up on this thread, I really admire you for taking the comments in good humour.

Please do speak to your psychiatrist about this tomorrow - struggling with basic hygiene like the washing up and clean clothes, but getting fixated on something much more extreme like drying forearms on a hand towel is probably something he should know about. He'll obviously be able to give better advice than any of us given he knows you and your history. You may as well give him all the info. Flowers

Thank you, that is so kind.

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles that made me laugh out loud 🤣

Surely you'd be worried about pubes though, given forearm hair gives you ick?

Jump over that shark in the other direction. 🤣

Maybe she is fully shaven or waxed? And her husband doesn’t wear knickers I guess? 😁

I can’t summon up the energy to do the washing or the washing up, so how likely is it that I am waxed or shaven anywhere? 😀

Hope you don't make him feel bad about this, it's all about you.

Glasgowgal200 · 14/08/2024 17:50

Is he in the medical profession!!!!! /?????

toxic44 · 14/08/2024 18:19

I think you're being very little-princess about this. Separate towels are an immediate solution for the kitchen but how can you bear him to put his arm round you? When you make love, do you ask him if he's washed his hands first? And on which towel he dried them?

Askingforafriendtoday · 14/08/2024 18:26

Catza · 13/08/2024 10:10

He dried hands that were already washed. Can't see the issue, personally. Have a separate towel if it bothers you.

This
And have you never seen how surrgeons scrub up in theatre, i. e. the right way to endure maximum cleanliness.
Your husband's way is much more hygienic, certainly not disgusting!

RTFT, OP has a lot going on and it's not just about a hand towel. Calling her a little princess is unfair and mean.

AnnieSnap · 14/08/2024 18:45

😂 what a strange thing to object to. He has just washed his hairy forearms when using the towel. Therefore, they are clean. Of course YABU

I'm with you OP. Separate towels needed for different body parts. We have an easy rule for this at home: White for hands, brown for feet, green for torso, thighs and seat. And in the cupboard beneath the stair, you'll find the red for pubic hair.

Ah I love LOG

MoonWoman69 · 14/08/2024 18:53

Oh! Hang on, it's ok folks, @BargingOnBy has barged in and agreed with the OP, which has clearly absolutely delighted her! We can all stand down 🙄
The towel issue wouldn't bother me at all, I have quite a hairy husband, we've been together 34 years and I have never found one of his hairs where it shouldn't be! But to be honest, I think if I were your OH, I'd be leaving you for the 5 day sweaty stinky shirt and the general lack of washing up, because that would bother me!
Were you hoping everyone would jump in and agree with you, so you'd have the ammunition for your final straw moment? That backfired didn't it?!

Doubledenim305 · 14/08/2024 19:07

I'm not into massively thick body hair so yes it gives me the ick. But you obviously married him with all that hair so you be ok with that. So shouldn't be a problem. It's clean

Huh? @BargingOnBy is the op..

Don't disagree with the rest of your post though.

DisabledDemon · 14/08/2024 20:11

I must admit, I'm one who only uses a bath towel once but as I have extremely dry skin, I don't have a shower every day.

I'd be OK with hands and forearms on the kitchen towel - anywhere else, forget it. That towel is getting washed!

No need to be unkind.
Strangely enough, I was asking whether IABU because I wasn’t sure. I appreciated all the comments and realised that I definitely was being unreasonable.

A bath towel being washed after every use is abusive to the environment
