Disgusting or Not?

BargingOnBy · 13/08/2024 10:08

My partner has the habit of washing his hands and his arms up to the elbows at the kitchen sink and then drying them with the hand towel in the kitchen. He has very hairy arms.

AIBU to think this is disgusting and the hand towel in the kitchen should only be used for drying hands, not other hairy body parts?

I don’t feel that it is hygienic to handle food after I have washed my hands and dried them on the same hand towel that he has used.

@MaggieFS me and DH do. We have two on the go and use both...is that gross?! Gawd. The person's body is clean when they use it. I wouldn't use a strangers bath towel. Obviously.

Imagine sharing a bed with someone, kissing them, having sex with them but finding it gross to share a towel?

Where is the logic in that?

JustEatTheOneInTheBallPit · 13/08/2024 14:55

I actually make my husband keep his disgusting forearms covered at all times. Like Dolly Parton.

During sex, he is naked apart from his forearms.

LTB, OP.

@AbigailisPartiedOut @Sparrowball haha, yeah. It's like, if he's so gross how can you bear to share DNA with him on a daily basis? 🤣

I'm with you OP. Separate towels needed for different body parts. We have an easy rule for this at home: White for hands, brown for feet, green for torso, thighs and seat. And in the cupboard beneath the stair, you'll find the red for pubic hair.

Excellent, I’ll suggest the same to my partner. What’s not to like about that.

All true, but not a matter for my psychiatrist to worry about.

Perhaps it would be best to let the psychiatrist decide if it is appropriate for them to be involved? You have nothing to lose by letting them know!
Your thinking seems a little bit off with regards to hygiene.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 13/08/2024 15:14

Get him to wash himself in the bathroom. That's what they're for. Kitchen sinks are for veg and washing up, not hands -and hairy arms-- covered in car grease etc.

😂 I thought I was the biggest germaphobe! It is a little unreasonable but we all have our different boundaries I guess. I don't let my husband wear socks in bed because he doesn't wear slippers and I don't like the thought of floor "bits" in the bed

Where do you wash your meat OP?

I have a tea towel in the kitchen. I use that to dry off things from the dishwasher and to dry my hands, so everything it's used on has been washed. Mind you, I wash my knickers in with other laundry and on another thread some said that left poo particles. I don't change the hand towel in the guest loo straight away if someone else uses it.

So either it's all perfectly safe or I have a superhuman immune system.

I wash knickers and towels together at 40 degrees and always wondered if that was hygenic

Surely you'd be worried about pubes though, given forearm hair gives you ick?

Jump over that shark in the other direction. 🤣

I just think you're normal. The laundry one made me laugh. Are people washing themselves at 60 degrees too and dousing themselves in dettol? I just chuck it in together at 30.

I let my dog lick my ice cream the other day though so clearly I'm just a disgusting slovenly germ ridden woman. My immune system is pretty good though.

Not worried about pubes, just worried whether 40 degrees would kill all the disgustingness from the knickers or whether it would infect the towels?

What will you wash that shirt you've been wearing for 5 days at?

30 degrees “mixed load” setting, in with the knickers and towels
Am I a disgusting creature?

Up to what point should he wash....below wrist, above wrist? If doing breadmaking or stuffing a turkey part of his arm might touch food....would you bin it because of his hairs but your unwashed arms are fine?
The most hygienic thing would be an air dryer or paper towels but to be honest your ott

The irony is that I am pretty unclean myself atm. I’ve worn the same shirt for 5 days in this heat and don’t have any clean crockery as it’s so long since I did any washing up.

And he's still with you....your either really rich or he's got no sense of smell.

BargingOnBy · 13/08/2024 10:58

We aren’t getting on very well and I was thinking that was the final straw until
I posted about it here 🤔

So your personal hygiene is an attempt to force him out?

BargingOnBy · 13/08/2024 11:29

I like really loose clothes and only feel comfortable in that one shirt atm.
I need to wash it before I see my psychiatrist tomorrow or he might think
I’m struggling to cope.

Definitely a school holiday post
