Disgusting or Not?

My partner has the habit of washing his hands and his arms up to the elbows at the kitchen sink and then drying them with the hand towel in the kitchen. He has very hairy arms.

AIBU to think this is disgusting and the hand towel in the kitchen should only be used for drying hands, not other hairy body parts?

I don’t feel that it is hygienic to handle food after I have washed my hands and dried them on the same hand towel that he has used.

Interesting. How far would you take that logic? Is it ok to wash his armpits and dry them using the kitchen hand towel?

That’s not what you asked. Don’t change the goalposts because you don’t like the answers!

I'm with you, OP - different towels for different body parts. We each have our own lifesize model of a skeleton in the house, and hang the appropriate towels off the appropriate body part. It's just good, normal, common sense behavior .

Surely you're more likely to have unpleasant stuff on your hands rather than your forearms? Or is this more to do with body hair?

Was exactly what I was thinking

If it really bothers you, why not just have another hand towel in the kitchen specifically for his use. Problem solved.

I can see the DM headline
MAN (45) DRIES CLEAN ARMS WITH TOWEL!!!

Yellowbananasarebetterthangreen · 14/08/2024 22:40

Op - would you be bothered if his arms werent mega hairy? Is it the hair that bothers you or the washing of his arms? I dont get it.
Maybe he has a job that results in particularly dirty icky arms?
Does it bother you if people wash their hands and dry them on the hand towel? Why is the washing of his arms such an issue?

So many questions!

I think it's the thought of the arm hairs on the towel in the kitchen 😜

CharlotteLucas3 · 14/08/2024 23:29

I never wash my arms so I must be really disgusting. Well I did for a few days recently and the inner elbow creases seemed to age ten years so I resumed my usual disgusting behaviour and they’re back to normal now.

It isn’t the hairs really, it’s just that it seemed disgusting to be drying body parts other than hands on the kitchen hand towel.

Ive seen the error of my ways now though

But what are his "other body parts" doing that you find so revolting?
Hands get icky, sticky, greasy, muddy, covered in all sorts of goo.
Forearms? Nope. A bit maybe, Something sometimes but nothing compared to how icky hands get.

True. I’m obviously just batshit crazy 🤷‍♀️

Quite possibly you are op sorry! At least in this respect. Hopefully only with regard to forearms though 😂and perfectly average and normal in all other ways

We have a tea towel and a 'hand' towel (which is also a tea towel) hung up.

It's because my DH gets really mucky hands with his job and he comes through the patio doors which leads into the kitchen/diner.

If someone soaped their hands and forearms up, then used the tea towel to dry them and hung it back up, it wouldn't really bother me, as long as they weren't black like DH's hands sometimes are.

A bath towel being washed after every use is abusive to the environment

Except, as I stated. I don't have a shower every day because of my skin condition so there's actually no difference between me and someone who showers every day but washes the towel after every two to three times.

Be careful how you bandy words like 'abuse' about.

The environment is constantly being abused by humans. The frequency of your showers is irrelevant. You could easily dry the towel that has been used to dry your clean skin, so that you are not using water, detergent, electricity and maybe gas (to heat the water) too completely unnecessarily.

You actually have no idea about the condition of my skin or why I might need a clean towel. You are being extremely judgemental without being in full possession of the facts.

Yes, it’s true. I am judging you for that.

Try not being. One day you might be in the same position and your words will come back to bite you.

You're really taking the term 'hand towel' and running with it here, aren't you?

🤣🤭🤣🤭
The question is do I apologise to him or just try to be less batshit about it in the future?

You do both.

And maybe if he suggests you seek help for this sort of reaction, you should do that too.

JustAnotherDadOf2 · 15/08/2024 00:56

You're complaining that he's thoroughly washing his hands? Sorry, but i think you got the problem.

SnowFrogJelly · 15/08/2024 01:29

Is he a surgeon

Mossley · 15/08/2024 07:52

You're complaining about a man washing !! Seriously though, I sort of get what you mean, why don't you give him his own 'special' towel to do this, men love that.
