Disgusting or Not?

BargingOnBy · 13/08/2024 10:08

My partner has the habit of washing his hands and his arms up to the elbows at the kitchen sink and then drying them with the hand towel in the kitchen. He has very hairy arms.

AIBU to think this is disgusting and the hand towel in the kitchen should only be used for drying hands, not other hairy body parts?

I don’t feel that it is hygienic to handle food after I have washed my hands and dried them on the same hand towel that he has used.

I feel sorry for your dp. Don't you love him? including his body?

I don’t love his body parts being rubbed all over the hand towel I dry my hands on before eating my sandwich

Arms aren't "body parts"

What are they then?

Try not being. One day you might be in the same position and your words will come back to bite you.

Okay, I concede that in the case of a disability,I may be wrong, but surely skin is clean after a shower 🤷‍♀️ Nevertheless, I don’t mean to offend. I just worry about the state of the environment and so many people’s selfish disregard for their effect on it. I wish you well.

That's OK. Good fortune to you too.

Oh! Hang on, it's ok folks, @BargingOnBy has barged in and agreed with the OP, which has clearly absolutely delighted her! We can all stand down 🙄
The towel issue wouldn't bother me at all, I have quite a hairy husband, we've been together 34 years and I have never found one of his hairs where it shouldn't be! But to be honest, I think if I were your OH, I'd be leaving you for the 5 day sweaty stinky shirt and the general lack of washing up, because that would bother me!
Were you hoping everyone would jump in and agree with you, so you'd have the ammunition for your final straw moment? That backfired didn't it?!

She’s taken the comments on board and has MH issues, so your nasty wee jibes weren’t really necessary. In fact all the posters commenting ‘hilarious’ digs at op are fairly embarrassing, although unfortunately not surprising at this point.

🤮

If you started calling it "the towel" would that help?

The fixation on "hand towel is for hands" isn't healthy, but I think you've acknowledged that. The next step is to seek support to deal with your problem.

I acknowledge that it isn’t a big deal based on all the responses on this thread but I don’t think I have a problem.

Well I apologise if I am derailing but I love a manly, hairy forearm so you can send him round to mine if you like 😚

😀 He’s yours if I can’t train him not to wipe his manly, hairy forearms on my kitchen hand towels.

He dried hands that were already washed. Can't see the issue, personally. Have a separate towel if it bothers you.

I agree with this

FeetLikeFlippers · 15/08/2024 22:21

I have clinical OCD and sensory issues (both part of Tourette’s) and I get ridiculously triggered by stuff that doesn’t seem to bother anyone else. Like I’m totally grossed out by dogs and just can’t understand how people can even touch them and have that doggy smell on their hands afterwards, but at the same time I realise it’s me that’s being weird. It really doesn’t make any sense because I’m not bothered about some types of mess/germs whilst other things make me want to scream. The arm washing thing wouldn't bother me (unless it was a stranger doing it) but when you mentioned dog slobber I felt a bit sick! Might be worth getting checked for OCD, it’s not as straightforward or obvious as most people seem to think.

Thought you were going to say he was a sheep farmer or a large animal vet… then you might have a point

SuspiciouslyMinded · 16/08/2024 01:42

Would you find it more acceptable if he used a shampoo to wash his forearms?

In any case, look at the bright side. Whenever he embraces you with his very hairy arms, you can be sure they are clean.

@BargingOnBy Why can't you just have a towel that is only yours for drying your hands? You are making your own MH issues worse by not having a simple solution that you can control.

Anyotherdude · 16/08/2024 07:47

Armpits and groin have sweat glands. Forearms don’t.
If you are that worried, change the towel daily!

Crushedcandy · 16/08/2024 08:06

After he’s washed thoroughly to elbow level I’m picturing him using a surgeon’s scalpel to cut his dinner. Maybe I watch too much Grey’s Anatomy 😆

I’ve just realised that I have only washed my bath towels once in the last eight months.

Is that OK because I am clean after the bath when I use them?

Give them a wash when you can, even though you're clean because they get damp they do need a wash. Once a week is fairly typical but I definitely went a lot longer in my younger days!

Did you speak to your doc about the hygiene stuff?
