To ask if you think the Olympic boxers are male?

ArabellaScott · 06/08/2024 15:22

The finals for both boxers are tonight and tomorrow.

I'm curious to hear whether people think they are females with a DSD, or males with a DSD.

YABU - they're female
YANBU - they're male

Males with differences of sex development that have experienced male puberty. ie. testosterone driven puberty. That gives them male puberty advantage over female athletes.

nauticant · 06/08/2024 15:26

I think they're people with XY chromosomes who have gone through a male puberty.

Which means they're faster and stronger than their female opponents, together with lots of other sporting advantages, and the boxing matching are particularly dangerous to the females.

jeaux90 · 06/08/2024 15:27

XY males.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/08/2024 15:28

It's clear as it can possibly be given the evidence available that they are both male, probably with a disorder of sex development which means they have an advantage of women and put them at greater risk of injury.

YANBU.

rioting24 · 06/08/2024 15:29

I think most likely they have DSDs with XY chromosomes so the outward presentation is more female but biologically they are males, with all the physical advantages that brings.

OneTwoTen · 06/08/2024 15:30

Yes, they are male.

Killingoffmyflowersonebyone · 06/08/2024 15:30

They’re male.

They’ve had tests run on them. One of them has a penis - can’t get more male than that!

Male

Helleofabore · 06/08/2024 15:31

If an IVF specialist obstetric gynaecologist who is an expert in the effect of hormones, who is also a sports medicine specialist and very experienced with boxing who advised on this decision doesn't know how to read laboratory tests that show two athletes chromosomes, then they should be removed from the registry.

And yet, the IOC undermines this expert for the sake of inclusion....

showeringthisaft · 06/08/2024 15:32

Yes, Male

VickyEadieofThigh · 06/08/2024 15:33

Definitely male.

Hoppinggreen · 06/08/2024 15:33

The fact that the Boxing federation banned them for not being women and they didn't appeal that decision is enough for me.
I believe that these boxers were raised as females in countries where the medical provision isn't great and a decision was made to raise them as female due to their genitals being ambiguous.
However, at puberty is would have been quite obvious that they were in fact male and I think that they and others like them are encouraged into sport by unscrupulous coaches who know they can win.
I am not without sympathy,in many cases this is a way out of poverty for themselves and their families and another traditional route of marriage may not be an option.
However, they ARE men in a biological sense and should not compete as women

Glamourreader · 06/08/2024 15:34

If they were female they wouldn't mind taking a new test to prove it if they felt the first tests were compromised

SauviGone · 06/08/2024 15:35

XY
Male

Kipperthedawg · 06/08/2024 15:35

What fascinates me is that this is a rare thing, yet they both happen to be boxers and entered into the Olympics. It's almost as if they were selected for the purpose...

The tests came back XY. They did not appeal those results. They are not offering to have independent tests done to clear their names. It's hard to conclude anything else.

user1471538275 · 06/08/2024 15:37

Male in their chromosomes
Male in their testosterone levels
Male in their sporting advantage
Male in their expectation that women give way to them

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 06/08/2024 15:37

Do female boxers usually wear protection for their groins? Why would he (in the black) need this protection if he were female?

To ask if you think the Olympic boxers are male?
buckeejit · 06/08/2024 15:38

YANBU. And they know they're male. I have sympathy if they thought they were female until
Puberty but they've known long enough now that they're cheats.

TheKeatingFive · 06/08/2024 15:39

But the IOC is determined to ignore all this and ride it out. Regardless of the potential impact on their female opponents. 😡

C0rdeliaChase · 06/08/2024 15:40

I want to see them fight each other.

Yes, I really don't think that some people who have supported their inclusion have looked at the evidence.

Punch power - 162+%

Combined with female proven physical differences

Less bone density = more prone to injury, particularly orbital bones and other facial bones.
More delicate brain fibres = more prone to concussion and brain damage.

Even to the point that male boxer's head guards have been found to not help and may amplify damage, while no research done on female boxers. And given the above, may potentially be making a punch at over 160% even more damaging.

This really is negligent on so many levels by the IOC.
