To think there's got to be at least a couple of MNers involved in the rioting ?

Based in the broad views seen here, I can't believe that there isn't someone who is involved either passively or actively.
If you are one of those, would you like to explain why?

More like to be one of the many abusive husbands/partners that so many desperate women start threads about in Relationships. Violent thugs are overwhelmingly male.

I agree with this ^
I think it’s a very male dominated minority and I doubt any of them on MN (even though there a few male contributors there or at least it’s what they claim).
On a personal level I’m sure none of my or DH’s friends took part in riots.

As a popular site, this forum definitely sees lots of bots/fake posters astroturfing (eg a fake grassroots movement). The timing of a flood of messages on a specific topic, similar language, repeated messaging shows that there is organised effort on touch paper issues (immigration, trans, Just Stop Oil, cyclists - whatever they are current trying to whip up feelings about).
So I doubt many of the posters who has posted awful things in the last week are rioting because I suspect that most of them don't exist.

All sorts of popular forums see this astroturfing - it's not just on Twitter and TikTok. They want you to believe it is a mainstream opinion to hold and to normalise it - move the Overton Window to the right.

The problem with finding someone like that here is that Mumsnet is left wing, on par with Reddit. You're not allowed dissenting views here, you have to toe the line.

(Unless it's about trans rights, but I guess that's because it's starting to actually affect them and their middle class families...)

I was going to riot, but I got distracted by a massive salad.

Joking aside, I doubt there us any crossover.

Same here 😂. More seriously, my town had one of these last night but thankfully it seemed that the violent contingent was relatively small (probably mostly arrested in Bristol the night before). I did consider going to stand with the counter protestors but had a feeling it would fizzle out here and it did.

Sorry, but I think that's a load of crap.
On here is about the only place where you can have 'dissenting views" unlike other online spaces.

stronglatte · 05/08/2024 09:49

I'm going to stay believing this is a place where nobody would condone a member of the police being pushed off their motorbike and kicked from behind .. by a woman .

stronglatte · 05/08/2024 09:54

Also- the woman holding the hand of the girl as she shouted out racial expletives, whilst her mother smiled proudly even with woman yelling at her asking her why - I am going to believe she's not on Mumsnet on.

IncompleteSenten · 05/08/2024 09:57

I'd be surprised, the footage seems to show it's overwhelmingly men that are out there having a lovely time enjoying smashing shit up and threatening people.
Mumsnet is a predominantly female site so I'd say it's unlikely although obviously not impossible.

When you say you're not allowed, what happens? Are the posts deleted?

That's just not true. My comment was literally just deleted from another thread despite being factual.

Yes, it literally just happened to me.

IncompleteSenten · 05/08/2024 10:02

What did you say?
I realise it will likely be deleted too but I suspect it will be the way you said it rather than what you said iyswim.
Things can break talk guidelines based on how they are said.
Eg you fucking twat, you talk shit
Will be deleted
But you could say wow, I think that's absolutely untrue and in my opinion people who say things like that run the risk of being considered utter twats
And most likely not get deleted.

IncompleteSenten · 05/08/2024 10:04

In fact over the years I've perfected several ways to call people fucking twats politely.

Which is not an achievement so much as it is proof I'm the bigger twat 🤣

No it's not that, it was factual information (that I'd personally witnessed as well) that didn't fit the narrative here.

I rarely ever get into name-calling because I find it boring.

IncompleteSenten · 05/08/2024 10:20

No sorry, I wasn't implying you'd been deleted for name calling, I was just making the point of how you say something being the difference between breaking talk guidelines or not iyswim

I used the twat thing example because I think I'm funny. (I'm not funny)

It seems very unfair to be deleted for describing something you saw with your own eyes. It's hard to interpret that as anything other than mn saying you're a liar!

I've been throwing bricks at the rozzers all day. I'm cream crackered.

Me too.

I think I saw you. It was amazing the way you picked up that concrete bollard and threw it through the Pound Shop window.

Looking at the other threads Instrongly suspect there are! I won’t name any posters but some of the threads started or the comments from people claiming to be Lib Dems etc. ‘ I didn’t vote reform but…’ on here show a level of bigotry and ignorance that is astonishing to me

kiwiane · 05/08/2024 10:38

The rioters are a minority and tend to be men; women tend to join the peace protests or hide in fear when their communities are targeted.
I reckon it will be the same men that happily beat the crap out of their loved ones at home.

QueenOfTheNihilist · 05/08/2024 10:45

The 'divide and rule' tactic is so strong as COL and other pressures bite.

It's not just race. Plenty of posters here, presumably including those who abhor the current riots and racism, were declaring themselves 'delighted' that the Winter Fuel Allowance has been scrapped, and shrugging at the possibility that this means pensioners living alone (only one state pension to heat a home) on the basic state pension and no more will die through lack of heating this year. Justified with a shrug and a 'there will always be those who miss out' . No interest in discussing a higher threshold etc. Just 'delighted' because they know pensioners who go on cruises.

That too is divide and rule - of course it is very hard for young families on low oncomes now, but divide and rule ageism and tropes about greedy wealthy boomers have fed right into a narrative that makes it OK for the Nans of struggling young families to die of cold.

Meanwhile the real issue is who owns the energy companies? (private tax dodging corporations, often not UK owned) Who runs the housing supply in this country? (private tax dodging developers, often selling to a foreign market) , who under-funds the NHS and why? And so on.

Misinformation has rich breeding grounds.

The thread on the very day of the horror in Southport was shocking. Loads of posts, before any details were known at all, insinuating various versions of religious / Islamic involvement, then numerous posts spewing the 100% false Twitter allegations and some spurious ‘news’ channel. A fake Arabic name, / came on a small boat last year/ watched by MI5… a Bingo list so obvious…. And then those that had spewed this stuff were telling posters who had urged people not to speculate to get off their high horses as obviously they had been right…Loads of people saying this is why they voted Reform.

There have been disingenuous threads concerned about ‘Tommy Robinson’s’ rights to free speech having been suppressed.

MN is teeming with people who at the very least share some sympathies with these thugs, or are trolls stirring it up.

I am guessing that none of those posters have been out rebuilding mosque walls or sweeping town squares.

It was a woman who started all this with that false tweet, picked up by Robinson and passed on to his cronies. But now they all know it was fake news, they are still rioting.

ATenShun
Knowing the treatment than women get under the Taliban. Surely taking the whole family into a neighbouring country and then on to a flight to a safe country from there would be better than a single man suffering that horrible smugglers route.

Building on what others have said, getting a visa to enter the U.K. isn’t easy for many people from ‘poorer’ countries. Obviously the U.K. authorities are wary about potential overstayers.

Airlines have to check that passengers have valid passports and visas and if they transport passengers who are subsequently denied entry to the U.K., they are fined for each passenger and have to repatriate them at the airline’s cost. Clearly this incentivises (hope that’s a word) airlines to be careful about who they let on their flights.

So no. Travelling to Pakistan from Afghanistan and then onto a flight bound for the U.K. is not a viable option for most.

My feeling is that MN is far too left wing to ever be involved. I don’t think anyone on here would do this.
