To think there's got to be at least a couple of MNers involved in the rioting ?

Based in the broad views seen here, I can't believe that there isn't someone who is involved either passively or actively.
If you are one of those, would you like to explain why?

I just don't get the mentality.
"We want our country back, keep the streets safe for the kiddies and women!"
What, by setting bins on fire and rioting in the streets?!
Absolutely brain dead.

Well spitting on women, calling women cunts, attacking hotels where women are working/living, attacking female police officers, ripping the hijab off a woman in front of her children - kind of shows how much they care about women and children

ghostyslovesheets · 04/08/2024 23:11

and yes there are a lot of 'wide eyed innocent' 'what is this all about' trolls posters about along with the outright obvious racists

ATenShun · 04/08/2024 23:11

I suspect there is a silent significant proportion of the population who don't support the rioting, but do support what is being demonstrated against. I believe what was considered being middle of the road politically is now being wrongly labelled far right.

Statements like look after our own problems first. Or to ask a limit on the amount of single male immigrants arriving and being put up in hotels in small towns as well as cities. Should not be considered racist. Yet anyone of late speaking this type of talk get branded racist.

This is the same issue happening right across Europe and our politicians have ignored this simmering unrest for too long, and are now reaping the consequences.

ghostyslovesheets · 04/08/2024 23:19

look after our own problems first. Or to ask a limit on the amount of single male immigrants arriving and being put up in hotels in small towns as well as cities

but those 'statements offer no solution - they just say 'immigrants are a problem' so that's still fanning the flames of hatred that leads to this.

We DO look after our own - we have a benefit system, homeless officers in each LA, social housing, emergency accommodation and jobs! Males come here because they are more likely to be targeted by armed forces like the Taliban and forced to fight - I would not send my daughter on the journeys any of my young male AS I work with have made - criminal exploitation, abuse and assault are common - males have a better chance of surviving and once here and settled can get their female relatives to safety - so pat statements don't actually show the whole picture

Krampers · 04/08/2024 23:37

Plenty of racists on here of course!

I trust you have seen the condition of housing being offered to social tenants. I take it you have experienced the years decades wait for some people to get anywhere near an offer of a house of their own. What about the massively increased waiting lists for medical or dental treatment.

These are the kind of things that are affecting the average man/woman on the street. Want to talk about fleeing conscription into armed forces, tell me how large is the taliban force in Albania and Romania, one of the largest area of origin for current illegal immigrants.

The estimated payment to smugglers to just get across the channel is £5k. Why would a person travel thousands of miles, go through numerous Countries of safety to pay smugglers sums like that to enter here.

Or Albania or Romania, whats the cost of a flight? Considerably less than being smuggled I'd of thought.

Your Country of origin is unsafe, yet you decide to leave your parents, sisters, wives at home in that dangerous place. Or taking Afghanistan as example, you could travel into Pakistan and get flights direct to the UK or any number of other Countries and place of safety for under £500 each.

RosaRoja · 04/08/2024 23:51

Romania is in the EU, you muppet. There are no illegals immigrants from Romania.

Albanians are sent back - they are not deemed to have a legitimate asylum claim

as to the rest - look to your government of the last 14 years - none of those issues are caused by people fleeing conflict

I don't think so. The rioters are a tiny percentage of the population.

Useful idiots? There's lots of them on Mnet. Stupid fuckers, they're nothing but unpaid Putin's puppets.🤦‍♀️ And then there are far right proponents and Russian trolls.🙄

I don't think there are any actual rioters though. There may be partners of rioters.Sad

That'll be everyone who tried to drum up support for Reform UK then. Because it is Reform's performance in the General Election that has emboldened these fuckwits.

ghostyslovesheets · 05/08/2024 00:00

You leave your sisters because they won’t be forced to fight and die for the taliban - not sure why you don’t understand that while life is shit for woman in Afghanistan it’s deadly for young men - and most don’t come here by plane they travel for months being abused and starved because they think the UK is safe - I mean, apart from seeing British forces attack the taliban first hand I’m not sure why they think that?

NoNoNotI · 05/08/2024 00:02

I live in one of the “grooming towns”.
Apparently there was a planned “march” for here (comprised of people who don’t even live here 😤).
Luckily most of the people who live here are appealing for calm on the Facebook groups, but there’s a few idiots throwing out the “all groomers” comments and that there “needs to be something done”.
Absolute trouble causing racist idiots.
If any of my friends write in support of them I’ll be deleting them 🤷🏼‍♀️
Most of the Muslims are questioning why the hell they’ve been dragged into it.

IncessantNameChanger · 05/08/2024 00:04

GHSP · 04/08/2024 22:41

From the news coverage, rioting appears to be a predominantly male activity. I’m not convinced that the mn demographic (which admittedly has some men, but is mainly women) has much overlap with the perpetrators of violence on the streets.

Yep. Why don't you examine the pictures and footage and pick out the vast numbers of woman who take part in mass violence. Oh hang on, it's mostly males.

ATenShun · 05/08/2024 00:08

In 2023 Albanian asylum claims had an acceptance rate of 50%. This also means that a significant number are kept by the British taxpayer until their asylum claim has been investigated.

Knowing the treatment than women get under the Taliban. Surely taking the whole family into a neighbouring country and then on to a flight to a safe country from there would be better than a single man suffering that horrible smugglers route.

As you say many Afghans will have negative views of the British, which again makes us an odd choice of destnation.

ATenShun · 05/08/2024 00:11

Look at our Goverment of the last 14 years. Need to go further back than that and thank good old warmongerer Tony Bliar and his liar lawyer wife who used the human rights act to line her own pockets. Wonder how many of these immigrants are housed in the Blair family property portfolio.

PerfectYear321 · 05/08/2024 00:12

The type to actively riot are useful idiots who probably can't string two sentences together, so I doubt they are posters on here. These people have nothing to lose.

There are, however, lots of posters who will inflame tensions by spreading misinformation and generally being racist online. They just won't get their hands dirty actively rioting

You think? Have a little look around. Lots of right wing views being expressed. And a worrying amount of outright racism.

Yep

1dayatatime · 05/08/2024 00:14

Well if you are correct that there maybe closet far right fascist mums hiding amongst us then it's unlikely they would admit to it.

Therefore the only way to really prove a MN'ers innocence from being a racist fascist would be to tie them up and throw them in to a lake. If they sink then they are probably innocent but if they float then they are definitely racist far right supporting fascists.

PerkingFaintly · 05/08/2024 00:15

This week's mob-raising has been using a very old and practised method.

Step 1: Look for what people are unhappy about (cost of living, quality of housing, whatever).

Step 2: Tell them that whatever it is you're selling, that's the cure for the particular unhappiness.

Voila, you have buyers for your snake-oil.

Hence Farage in 2016: "Vote for Brexit to cure your ills".
And Farage in 2024: "Brexit hasn't delivered."

(No shit. Membership of the EU wasn't causing most of the things people were unhappy about, and leaving the EU wasn't going to cure them.)

Right now, dissatisfaction with cost of living is real, and shouldn't in itself be dismissed.
For committed racists, it's an opportunity to sell racism and general xenophobia as their "cure."

RosaRoja · 05/08/2024 00:17

ATenShun · 04/08/2024 23:52

Keep up we aren't in the EU! 😂

When even The Daily Mail calls it race riots, you know these are far-right riots and not “protests”.

We’ve just had elections. You don’t like the results? Wait till the next ones, write to your MP, to the papers (the DM generally salivates for such stories) and so on. You don’t torch buildings with people inside.

Luio · 05/08/2024 00:17

They seem to be male, ultra nationalist thugs. I haven’t come across many of those on here.

Fifferfefferfeff · 05/08/2024 00:19

StarDolphins · 04/08/2024 22:45

My feeling is that MN is far too left wing to ever be involved. I don’t think anyone on here would do this.

Mumsnet isn't very left wing at all, though not far right either . I'd say centre-right, but with a mix of views right across the left-right spectrum.

I doubt many rioters are here, though, as violence is mainly a male pursuit, whereas Mumsnet is mostly female.

Me neither.

But in the last few days there are posts from names I don't recognise overtly or more subtly fanning the flames. No idea what sex they are or if they're parents.

Hangingupnow · 05/08/2024 00:26

I agree, look at Brexit and reform. I think it’s going to be quite hard to stop because of the general sentiment.
