To think there's got to be at least a couple of MNers involved in the rioting ?

Based in the broad views seen here, I can't believe that there isn't someone who is involved either passively or actively.
If you are one of those, would you like to explain why?

When even The Daily Mail calls it race riots, you know these are far-right riots and not “protests”.

We’ve just had elections. You don’t like the results? Wait till the next ones, write to your MP, to the papers (the DM generally salivates for such stories) and so on. You don’t torch buildings with people inside.

The reality is, that large numbers of people have been making those very points known to our politicians for years. Large swathes of the population have been ignored or thwarted by the very people we elect to do their best for us. The Rwanda plan was barking mad, but the reality is. If one party puts forward a possible solution, the opposite side always try to thwart it.

And? The alternative is not violence and trying to torch innocent people. if you’re on a PR mission for these thugs, you’re wasting your time. We’ve seen them for what they are. Night night.

I suspect there is a silent significant proportion of the population who don't support the rioting, but do support what is being demonstrated against

I agree, look at Brexit and reform. I think it’s going to be quite hard to stop because of the general sentiment.

Yup. And the reason the government are trying to take such a hard line on this, is because they understand this and are very worried about not being able to stop it.
Reform received nearly half the number of votes that Labour did. That's a huge number of people who are very dissatisfied with mainstream politics.

RedToothBrush · 05/08/2024 00:55

Yes. There's loads at a riot whilst messaging on MN about parking cunty fuckers.

PrimitivePerson · 05/08/2024 01:14

Scammersarescum · 04/08/2024 22:51

I was going to riot, but I got distracted by a massive salad.

Joking aside, I doubt there us any crossover.

Was it a ham sad?

VerySadCase · 05/08/2024 01:25

I reckon I could give you a list of far right posters who have almost certainly been involved in some way. But it would probably get deleted so I won't.

Why on earth MN doesn't ban these posters, I really don't know.

BeachParty · 05/08/2024 01:33

PerfectYear321 · 05/08/2024 00:12

The type to actively riot are useful idiots who probably can't string two sentences together, so I doubt they are posters on here. These people have nothing to lose.

There are, however, lots of posters who will inflame tensions by spreading misinformation and generally being racist online. They just won't get their hands dirty actively rioting

Edited

Yes, they're a massive problem too.
Misinformation spreading and whipping up hate, I don't think nearly enough is done about that or taken seriously enough.

I trust you have seen the condition of housing being offered to social tenants. I take it you have experienced the years decades wait for some people to get anywhere near an offer of a house of their own. What about the massively increased waiting lists for medical or dental treatment.

These are the kind of things that are affecting the average man/woman on the street. Want to talk about fleeing conscription into armed forces, tell me how large is the taliban force in Albania and Romania, one of the largest area of origin for current illegal immigrants.

The estimated payment to smugglers to just get across the channel is £5k. Why would a person travel thousands of miles, go through numerous Countries of safety to pay smugglers sums like that to enter here.

Or Albania or Romania, whats the cost of a flight? Considerably less than being smuggled I'd of thought.

Your Country of origin is unsafe, yet you decide to leave your parents, sisters, wives at home in that dangerous place. Or taking Afghanistan as example, you could travel into Pakistan and get flights direct to the UK or any number of other Countries and place of safety for under £500 each.

Wow you have really no grasp in the situation asylum seekers face at all! It is a proven fact that the around 3/5 of the nhs budget is used for the elderly! It isn’t asylum seekers making our nhs waiting lists long. It’s the systematic underfunding over the past 14 years.

Do you really think lots of young asylum seekers are rocking up to the GP to drain the nhs resources? Please activate some common sense!

As for the reasons why there are less women asylum seekers. The journey is fraught with danger on which women/children are more at risk of kidnap, sexual assault and sex trafficking. Plus there are usually limited funds to pay the human traffickers in the first place. So who would you send if it was your family? And as for getting flights, do you really think it’s so easy just to be plane hopping from one country to the next, when some require visas for entry? Honestly some people on mn really need to educate themselves before spouting nonsense.

They're too busy burning down libraries to educate themselves.

Respectfully, (and also making an assumption you’re from a Western country with significant passport power) I wanted to make a point specfically regarding your suggestion about Afghans, travelling to Pakistan and taking a flight, to a safe country. This is not to start an argument on our broader views on asylum or immigration, but just for the purpose of clarifying/providing info.

I think observations like this, whilst well-meaning, come from a place of not being in a position in life where you’ve had to worry much about visas - either needing them to visit lots of places in the first place, or facing the possibility of their refusal when you do apply for them. We take it as a given, a piece of holiday bureacracy. In order to board the plane to the UK, an Afghan would firstly need a passport, issued by the same regime they’re trying to flee - and would then need a visa. One of the basic criteria for rejecting visas is the slightest suspicion that the person will not return to their country once the visa expires. Given that the UK routinely denies visas to eg: the Pakistani parents of a student in the UK who wants them to attend his graduation, the average person attempting what you suggest would fall at the first hurdle.

Maybe I’ve been lucky, but I haven’t seen the racist or far-right posts on here, either.

You have indeed been lucky then. They have been out in force.

Bellsandthistle · 05/08/2024 02:17

@VerySadCase indeed. Going by some of the posts I’ve seen you involved with, I’m not going to go by your word on what is racist or far-right and what isn’t.

The people torched inside the Twin Towers on 9/11 would like a word.
Well, they would if they could.

There are people in this world without consciences, @RosaRojaand they walk among us. They did on 9/11, they do today and they will forevermore.
I wish there was a way to identify them - like a light that would flash over their heads or their hair would grow in polka-dotted or anything else similarly identifying.
May someday there’ll be a psychological test or even a simple blood test.
Medical science is expanding every day.
I have hope.

JennyForeigner · 05/08/2024 02:45

Unlikely, I come from part of the country which has a tiny but dreadful EDL/BNP core vote (and people who would join a riot if they saw a moment for one). The core is far more concentrated than you would think. Prevent know them, their kids by and large get as far away from them as they can, and women are rare and disappear if a marriage fails.

Which is not to say that they don't know how to use an online platform, but they'll all be down the GB News comments. There isn't crossover between rioters in Sunderland and the extremely online modern young nasties. IMHO they are still gravitating to Farage.

JennyForeigner · 05/08/2024 02:47

Or perhaps, Andrew Tate.

See there is a lot of white supremacy on this site

Yep and it needs calling out every. Single. Time.
I don't care if you (general you) think you're "being cancelled" 🙄
The hatred and bigotry being spouted online needs to stop. It's having RL consequences.

ghostyslovesheets · 05/08/2024 00:00

You leave your sisters because they won’t be forced to fight and die for the taliban - not sure why you don’t understand that while life is shit for woman in Afghanistan it’s deadly for young men - and most don’t come here by plane they travel for months being abused and starved because they think the UK is safe - I mean, apart from seeing British forces attack the taliban first hand I’m not sure why they think that?

The Taliban used conscription when they were in power in the '90s and into the '00s. It ended when they lost power in the aftermath of the 2001 invasion, and today - even with the Taliban back in power - Afghanistan's military is all volunteer.

RedToothBrush · 05/08/2024 08:09

Well....

Is inciting racial hatred and rioting on social media a crime in the UK? Yes. Yes it is.

There's at least one prominent individual who is likely to be in trouble....

...oh dear. Whoops.

The secret barrister
Free legal advice:

You don’t have to attend a riot to be prosecuted for conspiracy to riot. You don’t have to be present at a terrorist incident to be guilty of encouraging it.

A lot of Twitter warriors will be getting some unpleasant knocks on the door over the coming weeks.

RedToothBrush · 05/08/2024 08:12

It has to be said, that's not the worst tweet he put out.

Hopefully he will be dealt with.

Laurence Fox makes me feel sick. A couple of days ago he was actually telling people not to be violent which was good but I thought "You're partly responsible for all of this". Since then he's shared yet more hateful stuff about Muslims. Then he posted something yesterday about "difficult times" but it was him having some fancy wine and cheese (or something) in his posh garden in the countryside. I thought, there he is living it up whilst brown people are getting beaten up after his hateful words.
His last post before bedtime was "Fight, fight, fight" this is after the scenes of hotels full of immigrants being sent on fire, Brown people not being allowed to drive down the road, people being pulled out of cars and attacked.
It absolutely makes me both sickened and furious.
His fiance is black or mixed race, isn't she? How can she be with with him. Does he not understand or care that people are attacking all Brown people so he's essentially making his fiance a target too?!

Mumsnet isn't very left wing at all, though not far right either . I'd say centre-right, but with a mix of views right across the left-right spectrum.

I doubt many rioters are here, though, as violence is mainly a male pursuit, whereas Mumsnet is mostly female.

There were lots of women at the Leeds protest I attended, films of that woman screaming "Pakis out" with her child in tow yesterday. I saw women in the footage of the hotel riots yesterday, spitting at policeman.
Yes, there are more men but don't underestimate the number of women getting involved.

People underestimate how many women are involved in right wing politics.

CranfordScones · 05/08/2024 08:57

They don't strike me as the mnet sort.

Down the pub custody suite, I can't quite see the conversation going, "My round lads, but I've got an active thread on mumsnet, just need to check my AIBU response. Back in a mo...".

Rainbowsponge · 05/08/2024 08:58

Yeah I can imagine a few throwing Pom bears and stopping throwing planks of wood to check AIBU
