To be embarrassed to be from Hull right now?

These "protests" just look like a load of people out for a fight. People on live steams talking about going to get beer and seem to be having a great time.
Causes are lost because of reasons like this? Why would I support you when you are destroying my city? Setting fire to bins? Throwing all sorts at the police. I can't support this.

You'd need to be a total arsehole to support this.

CruCru · 03/08/2024 16:14

Honestly, it’s not just Hull. It’s quite a few places.

I’ve never been to Hull but I’ve heard it’s a nice place.

WickieRoy · 03/08/2024 16:14

Not just Hull. There's a large protest in my naice seaside town this afternoon. Gutted.

Many citizens are ashamed of the community around them at the minute.

Tough thugs….except the dog bitten Hartlepool thug sobbed through his court appearance. Sobered up clearly.
A gay man too, I'm sure he knows what prejudice feels like too.
Drunken idiot.

It's the same as everywhere. Some beautiful building in old town. Some not so nice places. But all I see is drunk people. Thugs with their faces covered. I knew straight away what it was really, my brother told me someone we know was going and I know he supports edl (not our friend just to be clear)

It’s awful, but they’re not protests they’re just riots, none of these idiots are actually protesting.

And yet my city has just had its annual saints day procession. Beautiful community event. Floats, bands, morris dancers. Families together in the centre.

We have to continue to come together and remember that this horrific violence is abhorred by the vast majority of us

PickAChew · 03/08/2024 16:18

It's sickening.

Locals were out cleaning up at 6am in Sunderland, this morning. If Hullensians are half as determined not to have their city destroyed by such scumbags, you have no reason not to be proud.

And women. Sunderland even included females with babies in prams.

Saw someone who got pepper sprayed. I thought you deserve that 😂

To be honest, I have our police force to be proud of. They pushed these idiots back quite quickly.

Bitten by a police dog or just a random dog (or more poetically his own dog?)

I saw that on the news. What kind of person takes babies and young children (or even older children) to a riot! Even if I thought I was going to a peaceful protest I’d think twice and if I somehow ended up somewhere with my children I’d leave at the first hint of trouble.

Excuse me!

Stereotypes abound….

Not great on a thread about discrimination and prejudice.

Here the instruction was "women and children to the front". 🙄

I was supposed to go to Humber Street Sesh today, getting the bus to Paragon then walking to marina, but on the advice of coppers etc in the know I decided not to. So glad I didn’t now, when you watch the footage from Paragon hotel. I’d have had to walk right through that bloody shower and it would’ve upset me so much.

In fairness, there's no rioting in our little town, so far anyway. Not that the protest is enlightened.

But that is very much a stereotype I am a Sunderland fan. Nothing like those you have selected to fit your view.

See how easy it is to assume and make stereotypical claims.

Like anything, football fans come from many backgrounds.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 03/08/2024 16:33

Why should you personally feel embarrassed? Where you involved in the riots? Only the very stupid equates a horrible event with everybody from that region/country. They can be safely mocked and/or ignored.

Perhaps it's the downside of the constant national 'pride' in anything good that happens? People from that place puff themselves up and take ownership of it even though it has nothing whatsoever to do with them other than geography?

Of course, they're all like that. Just like all scousers have moustaches and all Yorkshire men wear flat caps.

Do you not see how ridiculous your generalisation is?

Don't be stupid. It hits SM because it's different.

I'm a season ticket holder ar SAFC and there are total arseholes, male and female, just as there are at every football ground in the country.
This sort of 'evidence' posted on SM is exactly what has triggered the riots in the first place - ignorant, lazy opinion presented as fact.

FWIW, I don't live in Sunderland, I travel from a small market town, but even here on FB there are shit stirring posts about illegal immigrants getting free bikes(???), phones and going to the top of housing lists.

Can't argue with stupid.
