Angela Carini is the incredibly brave Italian boxer who had her Olympic dream shattered in less than a minute after being punched in the face by Imane Khelif, a male competitor who was disqualified from the women’s World Championships last year because his testosterone levels were too high.
Everyone should be saying her name. Over and over and over again.

Yesterday, the International Boxing Association released an eleventh hour statement which definitively established that Khelif was not eligible to compete in women's boxing.

Khelif, along with Taiwan's Lin Yu-Ting, had been previously disqualified from the 2023 Women's Boxing World Championship after it was determined they had an unfair advantage over female boxers.

And while supporters and national Olympic Committees claimed this was simply because the boxers had "naturally high testosterone," the IBA put this myth to bed and confirmed they had not conducted a testosterone level test on either one of them.

Instead, the IBA said that Khelif and Lin had been disqualified after a separate medical test was conducted which established they were not eligible to participate in women's boxing.

Crucially, the IBA defines "woman" as "an individual with XX chromosomes." The "gender tests" they conduct on boxers do not measure their hormone levels, but determines whether they meet this definition of "woman" as per the IBA eligibility criteria.

Khelif and Lin did not.

Yet despite this, the @iocmedia has allowed both to compete in women's boxing at Paris 2024. While some may believe the IOC conducted their own medical tests, this is untrue. The IOC ceased all sex-testing in 1999. And for the purposes of the Paris Olympics, the eligibility for women's boxing has been limited to whether an individual has legal documents stating they are female.

Reduxx will be clear for a final time: Khelif and Lin are NOT believed to be transgender. Instead, they are believed to be individuals impacted by a Difference of Sexual Development, a medical condition which results in the abnormal development of secondary sex characteristics.

Individuals impacted by some DSDs, for example, may have XY chromosomes, but not develop a penis in utero. Thus, they are marked as "female" when they are born, and may go a substantial part of their lives without knowing they are biologically male.

In the past, male athletes with DSDs have been actively sought out by national Olympic teams because they have a substantial advantage over females and can fly "under the radar" thanks to their "female" legal documentation.

But individuals with XY chromosomes, no matter their secondary sex characteristics or medical conditions, are still male. And they should not be competing against females.

@iocmedia was and has been aware of concerns surrounding Khelif and Lin's biological sex, yet has been allowing them to continue compete against females.

This is putting female athletes at serious risk. It is also crushing the dreams of female Olympians like Angela Carini, who earned their place in their sport.

No, They've apparently never had testosterone tested.

They had genetic tests which showed they are male.

Thanks, I wasn’t really understanding but I have read some more into it and I think I do now.

No, there can never be enough posts about this.

Iheartmysmart · 01/08/2024 17:04

It’s a sad state of affairs when a man’s feelings are more important than woman being beaten to a pulp. Not surprising though.

Qanat53 · 01/08/2024 17:05

TheKeatingFive · 01/08/2024 16:59

That isn't accurate. They'll have perfectly normal testosterone levels for a man.

Can you reference source of your perfectly normal levels for they?

BreadInCaptivity · 01/08/2024 17:06

It's misogyny at its most dangerous.

There will never be enough threads/posts about this until the IOC stop putting women in danger.

I disagree.

I disagree also. Absolutely right to have as many threads, articles and SM posts as we possibly can on this subject.

No, we women must only be permitted one thread in which to discuss our shrill views, preferably hidden away on The Naughty Step.

How on Earth can people ignore us if we keep speaking out all over the place?!

😂Pesky, difficult women the lot of us bloody pointing out unfairness and misogyny out in public where anyone can read it. Shocking I tell you!

I feel so heartsick for Angela Carini, all that training, all those years, all that dedication, skill, hopes and dreams and it's ripped from her away in 46 short seconds by a cheating man who gets cheered on as he smashes her in the face twice with his long man arms & male bodied strength.

She is the real winner here we all know it (well apart from the MRAs), but ffs it shouldn't have come to this.

And he's off to fight another woman in a few days, and there's the other man fighting a Hungarian woman in the boxing ring soon too.

It's genuinely worrying because there could be some serious injuries yet to come.

Maireanto1 · 01/08/2024 17:08

The Algerian will be facing a Hungarian woman in the next round. Seriously hope Viktor Orban Hungary's conservative president raises hell over this.

youngerself · 01/08/2024 17:08

I think some of the confusion comes from the IOC's reporting controls from what I have read on another thread. This limits what can be reported by MSM as far as I understand it.
Someone more knowledgeable may well be able to explain better please?

For anyone who wants to listen to an expert podcast on the inclusion of male people in boxing, I recommend this from Ross Tucker. Ross is a sports scientist who has expertise in male athletes with DSDs and has been a witness in Semenya's court case.

https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/paris-2024-males-are-about-to-fight-in-womens-boxing/id1461719225?i=1000664021676

"The controversial issue of males in women's sport has reared its head at the Paris Olympics. In this episode, the team discuss the case of two boxers who were disqualified after failing 'gender eligibility tests' by their international federation at last year's World Championships but, despite being biologically male, are competing in Paris. We discuss how this situation has arisen, including an explanation of the governance issues that led to their inclusion, and the biological factors that give rise to the Differences of Sex Development (DSDs) that are thought to be responsible for these two cases. We explain how significant male advantage is in sport, and why boxing, of all the sports, is one that should recognise male biology and its implications. Finally, we offer insight into the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) Principles of Fairness and Inclusion, contrasting this with other sports that regulate women's sport and exclude male advantage."

DNA is what matters, but only insofar as DNA determines which developmental pathway your body takes during development and puberty. Usually this means that XX = female and XY = male.

But some DSDs can produce XY people who have developed mostly as females, if they have a Y chromosome but faulty ‘male pathway’ genes.

Whether Khelif should be fighting in the women’s category has to depend on whether she has significant and dangerous advantages as a result of her DSD, not based on her chromosomes alone. If she does, then sad as it is for her, she just can’t be allowed to fight. Clearly Carini feels it does, and who am I to argue with her.

She? What are you talking about? He's a man.

Interesting question - they were never tested (according to the IBAs statement). However sex testing was done instead, which proved their maleness, so I'm surmising their testosterone levels would not be high for a male.

As always with anything gender related. Their reporting was slightly more muted this morning but they have strengthened & clarified their rhetoric as the day has gone on.

This is finally getting the attention it deserves. Awful it’s happens, so unfair. It’s a mens rights movement designed to destroy womens rights.

Yes. Angela Carini is a brave woman.

I admit I have some sympathy for these two biologically male Olympians. As far as I've read, they were believed to be female from birth (they may well not have a penis in answer to another pp) and have always competed within female leagues. To me, it's quite different to a man who was born a man, fought mediocrely against men, and then decided to "become" a female in order to box in the olympics.

Despite that, I accept that they have biological advantages over the women and it isn't fair that they compete.

I think a lot of the reporting on this has been so vague that many believe these Olympians are trans.

As soon as puberty arrived they would have discovered that they were male and not female. No doubt that was a great trauma.

But being allowed to cheat in the Olympics and punch women is not a consolation prize for having been through difficult circumstances.

Do you now how many elite athletes have to drop out of their sport because of a medical issues ? What’s their consolation ?

What about Angela ? Her years of training ( and no it’s not 4 years ) destroyed in 46 seconds because of the criminal culpability of the IOC 😡

Both of these male athletes have known for DECADES that they are not women. It’s not like they just found out after a medical test . Their coaches and team mates have also known for years. They are all colluding in this cheating.
