Angela Carini is the incredibly brave Italian boxer who had her Olympic dream shattered in less than a minute after being punched in the face by Imane Khelif, a male competitor who was disqualified from the women’s World Championships last year because his testosterone levels were too high.
Everyone should be saying her name. Over and over and over again.

I wonder if the IOC would bother to investigate if someone was reported as being in the wrong weight category or that they are representing a country they weren't eligible for or that they were observed taking banned substances or that they had taken a short cut in the marathon or would they send a spokesperson out to say we couldn't possibly look into all allegations. 🤷‍♀️

it’s also unfair that they shouldn’t be able to compete either

Of course they can compete. In their correct sex class. Why is that a problem?

The age old question.

I think we know the answer.

'Well, Brian McBurley looked thinner in his passport photo so we decided to let him into the featherweight category. Yes, he is six foot two and 24 stone but these things are very complicated.'

There's Swyer syndrome but it's very rare.

Which does not confer the massive advantage of male puberty.

Lisa Nandy just said on BBC News that biology matters!

I almost fainted…

Bloody hell, this is the woman who, a few years ago, thought male sex offenders should be housed in women's prisons if they "identified as a woman",

DontStopMe · 02/08/2024 13:28

Sadly this has yet to make it to the BBC news website.

Always last to report on women’s issues. Always.

I complain sporadically, but I’d spend my whole life writing to them if I complained every time,

Yes and you just get word salad back that's meaningless, never answers your question and is misogynistic.

Just stop paying for your TV licencse everyone!

She's obviously realised how incredibly stupid and deranged her lack of tether to reality made her look.

I haven't had a tv licence for years, can't say I miss it.

More likely someone had a word and explained if she wants to remain on the front bench she needs to rein in the batshittery.

We always said it would be sport that would peak the general public - people understand the simplicity of sport. They can be distracted by calls of “be kind” when it comes to changing rooms and toilets, etc but put the image of a man punching a woman in the head on tv and they will get it very very quickly.

louloulo · 02/08/2024 13:48

the batshittery of TRA has come to the surface in this. Anyone sane, anyone rational, anyone fair, anyone with an ounce of ethics or logic, can see that it's unfair to have an XY male (DSD or not, irrelevant, still
male) competing against an XX female.
If you can't see the unfairness
of that, you're no more than a screeching cult member.

LunaNorth · 02/08/2024 13:58

Angela Carini’s bravery in entering the ring might just be a definitive moment in the fight to have women’s rights protected and our biology respected.

She is a shero.

Absolutely. What I saw was a man punching a woman and that was incredibly difficult to witness. And no matter how the IOC may defend this situation, this will also be how other people see it.

VickyEadieofThigh · 02/08/2024 15:08

Unfortunately, the nonsense circulating on social media right now is that Khelif was "born female" and/or has a dsd with androgen insensitivity- the latter is impossible as Khelif very clearly produces high testosterone and went through male puberty.

BMW6 · 02/08/2024 15:22

TRA are bound to be incredibly active on SM trying to distort the Truth.

In the Real world the vast majority of people will have seen and understood the truth.

The Emperor is naked and he is seen so.

Pluvia · 02/08/2024 15:47

I think the volume of blatant disinformation being churned out by TRAs here and elsewhere on social media (and the BBC) indicates that they know the game is up. It shows how desperate they are.
