Angela Carini is the incredibly brave Italian boxer who had her Olympic dream shattered in less than a minute after being punched in the face by Imane Khelif, a male competitor who was disqualified from the women’s World Championships last year because his testosterone levels were too high.
Everyone should be saying her name. Over and over and over again.

Just to say - I agree entirely - but the two boxers were disqualified from the women’s competition not because of testosterone tests but because they failed a gender test (their words, not mine, I'd use sex) and have XY chromosones.

This is a fact they themselves have not disputed, though apparently people on MN know better...

Naunet · 01/08/2024 16:17

Nice to see. She may not have won a medal, but she’s an absolute hero to many.

BMW6 · 01/08/2024 16:19

Yes, they both have XY chromosomes, they are both men.

They may have DSD, but nothing changes the fact that they are genetically MALE

Shame on the IOC.

She is a very brave woman and deserves recognition.

Flossyts · 01/08/2024 16:26

I hate how this gets called out as being anti trans. I am not anti trans. I am against a woman being hit in the face by someone with all the genetic advantages of being male.
dress how you like, be who you want as long as this doesn’t unfairly or unsafely impact someone else.

There can NEVER be enough posts and threads highlighting the physical risks (and fairness) of allowing men to hit women in the name of sport.

And never enough highlighting men in women's jails and refuges. And loos. And changing rooms.

Complaining about a man smashing a woman in the face is not anti trans.
In any other scenario he would be getting charged with GBH
Where the he'll do these people get off?

Don't know but we do know the boxer has xy chromosomes and went through male puberty. You don't hit people with your penis so possession of one is irrelevant

A male with stunted penile growth or that surgically removes his penis is still a male. DNA is what matters.

Absolutely #IStandWithAngelaCarini 👏

PurpleSparkledPixie · 01/08/2024 16:35

It wasn't testosterone levels, it was chromosomal. XX or XY which is pretty definitive of which sex you are.

Tharshe · 01/08/2024 16:39

It's horrifying and disgraceful. I hope that the outrage spreads and more people become aware

Soontobe60 · 01/08/2024 16:40

I’m absolutely furious that this has been allowed to happen, and that spokespeople from the IOC are condoning it. I wept when I saw the footage of this ‘fight’. Carini is so very very brave for getting into the ring with someone she knows to be male - this fight will show the world what an absolute hell-hole gender identity politics is.

Why? Are you ok with males pretending to be female and battering them?

There can't be enough posts on this until the IOC take action to get men out of women's sports.

No there can't possibly be enough posts on a woman who has trained for 4 years to be cheated out of fair competition.

This is 100x worse than doping!
We stand for every woman and girl who has been cheated out of fair competition.

I pray the IOC come to their senses tonight. Before another woman faces the same fate or worse tomorrow!

hattie43 · 01/08/2024 16:42

It's truly awful women are expected to fight against men , good for her being brave and calling a hault to this nonsense .

This boxer is male. As proven by rigorous genetic testing.

It doesn't matter. He is XY, that's all that counts.

That's the thing, this goes on. How many more women have to be put through this?
