Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khelif: Boxers cleared for Paris Olympics - BBC Sport

They are both biological males. Its to IOC, International Olympic committee. There will be a protest and i know another female Irish boxer has pulled out but surely this cant stand. The women could be seriously injured.

Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-ting

Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khelif: Boxers cleared for Paris Olympics

Two athletes are cleared to compete at the women's boxing at the Paris Olympics, having been disqualified from last year's World Championships for failing to meet eligibility criteria.

This should not be allowed

cupcaske123 · 01/08/2024 10:30

The women probably will be seriously injured.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 01/08/2024 10:31

She should kick him 🏐🏐 and be disqualified.

repeat until the ‘competition ‘ is over.

Redshoeblueshoe · 01/08/2024 10:31

They are cheats.

PurpleSparkledPixie · 01/08/2024 10:32

ugh.... I really hope this fight gets cancelled. It's not fair, it's not safe. The poor woman will know she's going to get pulverised right from the first punch.

Sickening.

LittleSparklyStar · 01/08/2024 10:32

Why are men being allowed to compete against women?!

AtrociousCircumstance · 01/08/2024 10:33

It is wrong. Madness that it’s been allowed. The stupidity and arrogance that fuels this men’s rights activism. Women are called bigots unless they allow a man to physically beat them? It’s fucked up and terrifying.

It’s so sad that Pride has been co-opted to celebrate male privilege and the silencing of women.

camperjam · 01/08/2024 10:33

I read about this the other day, I can't believe it's allowed to happen.

Treo · 01/08/2024 10:33

Yanbu, I did boxing (and some other contact sports) throughout childhood and into adult, there was a boy I started with and we grew up in the sport together, the minute he hit puberty it was a totally different ball game and we not longer trained together when he was properly hitting on pads etc as I just couldn’t hold them for him, he would never have done a match with me even if he could have, as it’s cheating.

Love this

TheKeatingFive · 01/08/2024 10:34

All kinds of wrong 🤬

SeulementUneFois · 01/08/2024 10:35

This is so wrong.
Hope that the flight somehow doesn't go ahead. But unlikely....

Pipinnn · 01/08/2024 10:35

This is horrific.

This is openly sanctioning male violence against women.

This is not sport. It's grotesque

GinAndBeerIt · 01/08/2024 10:35

I don't understand why the woman is even entering into the competition with him.
If the biological women all said no, we're not playing with a man on the team, or against a man then the officials would have to ban men.
While ever the biological women allow it, then it will continue unfortunately.
The real question for me is....what sort of bloke would hit a woman, sport or not, gender change or not.

Catsarelovely · 01/08/2024 10:35

I'm really shocked about this. Have been hoping that it will be cancelled last minute but no sign of that so far 😕

Heavyboom · 01/08/2024 10:36

I don't understand why this has even come up, how it's become an issue. Who in their right mind would even float this as a possibility. I just don't understand why there's any debate about it at all. And yet, here we are.

Because it's her career and she may never get a chance to compete in the Olympics again.

The governing bodies have failed women here. Let's not blame the victims or expect them to throw away their careers to fix the problem.

BigPussyEnergy · 01/08/2024 10:37

I have a video of me arm wrestling with my DS when he was about 12 - it was unnervingly close and I considered myself a strong woman, regularly lifting heavy boxes through work! He was a regular non-sporty slightly chubby pre-teen and I honestly expected I’d have to pretend to give him a chance!

I fear for these women’s safety. Anything that shines a light on the unfairness of all this can only help to bring about change but it’s so sad that women either have to lose out on their Olympic dream by making way for these pathetic men or risk life changing injuries to appear tolerant and non bigoted.

ilovemoney · 01/08/2024 10:38

How is everyone there going to participate in this spectacle? The officials, the staff, the coaches, the athletes, the spectators.

How can they all attend and stand there and watch? What will be going through their minds?

I don't think i could do that its like a weird movie or something.

Surely at some point you step back and say. 'i am sorry, i am really uncomfortable with this, this is wrong and i won't participate'.

The Italian government have spoken out and criticised as its their female boxer but i think they and others need to do more.

I have a bit of an issue with this because it really makes it sound as though it's the women competing that are the problem. No, it is the massive corrupt institutions letting this happen that are at fault. They have a safeguarding duty at the very least and are massively letting these women down.

Because decisions were taken to let people change their 'legal sex' in official documents and thus legally, it is hard to make the case that men who say they are women have no place in women's sports.

Whilst I can see this is true, it feels a bit victim blaming to me.

The women have entered an event and they are entitled to expect fair fights. Especially in a competition that only comes every 4 years.

Also, most of the sports people are really quite young. It's not like they are a 50yo with a lot of life experience, confidence and "don't give a shit" sort of mentality.

Can you imagine giving up years and years of training to have to refuse to participate?

crumpet · 01/08/2024 10:40

The bout may already have started - think it’s being shown on sky, which I don’t have

Heavyboom · 01/08/2024 10:40

Reading that article, it's not clear what the background of these people are. Were they born male/are boliologically male or is there something else that causes unusually high testosterone? I do think there's a distinction.

All of this plus, these women may not have the opportunity to come together as a group and agree to all not compete. And some of them might come from countries where the pressure to compete is intense (ie abusive)
