Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khelif: Boxers cleared for Paris Olympics - BBC Sport

They are both biological males. Its to IOC, International Olympic committee. There will be a protest and i know another female Irish boxer has pulled out but surely this cant stand. The women could be seriously injured.

Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-ting

Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khelif: Boxers cleared for Paris Olympics

Two athletes are cleared to compete at the women's boxing at the Paris Olympics, having been disqualified from last year's World Championships for failing to meet eligibility criteria.

Why don't they just put these two cheating men together in the ring and let them fight each other? Then it would be an even fight. Oh wait, that's right, they're afraid of fighting other men, because they might lose .... much easier to fight women. How the fuck could the IOC allow this? Will it take serious injury or death to prompt them to act in a sane manner?

Welcome to 2024, whereupon men beating the shit out of women is televised entertainment.

A convicted child rapist will also be appearing on our screens, participating in the games.

Progress indeed, eh.

Yeah, we've really jumped the shark now. See also the furries thread.

Wheresthebeach · 01/08/2024 11:11

It’s beyond disgusting. This ideology is a danger to all women.

MysticalLibrarian · 01/08/2024 11:11

Madness.

protectourchildren · 01/08/2024 11:11

It's sanctioned abuse. It's 1984 - deny the evidence of your eyes and ears.

It's not just the fact they're obviously men, and have XY chromosomes, there are also multiple women boxers who've already boxed them and suffered harm and spoken up including I believe saying they feared for their life. It obviously will take a woman dying or being seriously injured live on TV.

But even then, they'd try and cover it up. Women's lives and achievements count for nothing.

Username197 · 01/08/2024 11:12

Completely agree with you OP. It is disgustingly and anybody involved in this game is supporting it. I am a huge boxing fan and pretty big Olympic fan and I feel so strongly about it not being allowed to happen.

A trans competing against women in some sports, say swimming, rowing or track and field, I don’t support it, but fine. They have an unfair advantage in these type of sports, but nobody is at risk of getting seriously hurt.

A man should categorically not be allowed to fight in women’s boxing. It is so dangerous. They might make the same catch weight but there’s a reason in any catch weight that women generally have very few KO/TKO outcomes in comparison to men. Men biologically punch 2.6x harder than a woman.

It really is a tragedy waiting to happen. I can only hope something happens for the fights not to go ahead.

I don't understand why the woman is even entering into the competition with him.
If the biological women all said no, we're not playing with a man on the team, or against a man then the officials would have to ban men.
While ever the biological women allow it, then it will continue unfortunately.
The real question for me is....what sort of bloke would hit a woman, sport or not, gender change or not.

Edited

Unfortunately for the poor woman involved it probably means she'll loose her sponsorship money.
The money that pays the food bill and her training. Very few Olympians at true amateurs with a normal full-time job.

I hope by some miracle that the sponsers tell them to pull out or IOC stop this farce from happening.
The IOC will have blood on their hands if they let this go. It's bad enough that men compete in the womans athletics. But boxing, which is a fucking dangerous sport anyway.

Tigergirl80 · 01/08/2024 11:13

I'm in two minds here. Would it be fair if she had to fight a woman who was biologicaly female at birth? The only fair way would be if she fights a trans woman.

Soon enough this is what will happen, as more and more women get injured, women's boxing will wither and die and then the entire women's category will firstly be filled with men and then disappear as the cheating men won't be so interested when having to compete fairly.

See also the open categories already created for trans people to participate in many events that had no entrants.

The aim is to abuse women, that's the whole point.

Maireanto1 · 01/08/2024 11:16

I'm very scared for the beautiful Italian girl. She is a policewoman so I am sure she will be very composed under the pressure.
25 year old Angela has spent the past 4 years training for this moment, I'm sure she never expected her first Olympic bout in her designated women's competition to be against a man.
I will not be watching the match on principle, praying for Angela, I'm scared for her. How on earth have we ended up here? Is this where "no debate" has got us?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 01/08/2024 11:18

This is openly sanctioning male violence against women

My personal view is that boxing legitimises violence anyway, but sadly I find this latest horror all too predictable with what the IOC is becoming

Between the corruption and the political grandstanding the original principles seem to have been thrown aside, and that's a crying shame for the countless decent, dedicated and hardworking athletes

I'd say the actual women should refuse to compete aginst men, but in the current climate that may well lead to them being banned completely - and so things continue to be degraded

Heavyboom · 01/08/2024 10:51

Yes, they are, or at least they have both failed gender tests, but they're both entered in the women's boxing. They're not fighting each other.

Ah I see, I thought they were fighting each other so I was thinking one was a biological male and choosing to live as a female but wasn’t wasn’t allowed to enter the female competition (and rightly so!!) so had to fight another male. I thought that’s absolutely right, it has to be based on your biological sex, regardless of how you chose to present yourself…

Jesus, I can’t believe that 2 males are allowed to compete against females? WTAF??!

CakeAtFour · 01/08/2024 11:21

I’m disgusted with the Olympics. How can they allow this to happen?! And why aren’t mainstream media outlets reporting on it?

Yeah, we've really jumped the shark now. See also the furries thread.

I'm looking forward to settling down in front of the beeb to watch the witch trial qualifiers.
Though it's the unmarried Mother's asylum relay I'm most looking forward to.

Portakalkedi · 01/08/2024 11:22

Sad though that the women who have trained for years feel they cannot refuse this travesty of 'competition'. I wonder about the people who have paid for tickets to watch these events, why don't they all refuse to participate? Empty seats would make a good protest (although of course sadly the women boxers will still lose out).

If you can't access the guardian, many, many other news outlets have written about it. (Unless i have misread your post and you do know about it).

SummerTimeIsTheBest · 01/08/2024 11:23

No-one should buy tickets to watch that match and no-one should watch it on the TV. I know I won’t be. It’s absolutely disgraceful. I bet he was dreadful in the men’s category and knows the only way to win is to fight against a woman. Let’s face it, that’s what Lia Thomas did 🤷‍♀️

MeouwCat · 01/08/2024 11:24

Is boxing appropriate for women anyway?

Beefcurtains79 · 01/08/2024 11:24

BBC studiously ignoring it I see.

happydappy2 · 01/08/2024 11:25

Yes BBC not mentioning it at all.....

Ironically they wouldn't be allowed to fight each other as they are in different weight categories so it would be deemed 'unsafe'. Perfectly safe for someone with male biological advantage to fight a female though. 🙄

Annielou67 · 01/08/2024 11:25

As I understand it, both of these fighters are intersex not trans. Kehlif has presented as female since birth and was involved in girls’ boxing from a young age. As far as I’m concerned trans people should not be competing but if these competitors are genuinely intersex, have never presented as men and have been in the women’s game for life then the argument is more nuanced and comes down to the authorities making a fair medical decision based on whether the individual has an unfair advantage.

Whatever your views on boxing, there is a female category and women’s boxing is a well established sport. There should be no place for males in this category.
