To wonder how women wear dresses in the heat

Please can someone help! How on earth are most people wafting about in dresses in the heat?

I'm a U.K. 12 and if I wear dresses in the summer with normal pants my thighs rub together so badly, it's impossible to walk more than 5 minutes!

I have chub rub pants which are great and I put up with how sweaty they make me, but they are absolutely not suitable for a holiday where I'm wearing little beach dresses etc and it's very hot.

I've tried thigh gel in the past and found it makes no difference, it rubs off right away.

Is this just me? I'm slightly overweight but not a lot and find this happens even when I'm slimmer.

Can only survive in dresses in this heat

Very Light dresses 👗 , no thigh rub but have wide hips.

My thighs touch (and how) but weirdly I don't have this problem. I actually think it's because my legs are short and fat, so they don't actually move very far from each other when I walk...the fatty inner thighs just kind of stay together as I move.

Harem trousers might be a good alternative? Not the dropped crotch ones.

Harem trousers and the like are a good call. In a light muslin or similar and wide at the bottoms. You can get away with a much thinner fabric for trousers than you could for shorts.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 31/07/2024 13:32

My thighs well and truly meet at the top, but I don't get chub rub. I don't need to do anything to stop it, they just don't chafe for reasons I can't explain. Maybe it's my gait, or that I don't sweat much, I don't know. So I wear dresses most days in summer.

I have bigger problems with loose shorts getting rucked up in my crotch when I'm walking. Not a good look.

Emilywiththegreeneyes · 31/07/2024 13:32

I always wonder the same. Chub rub tights are awful frankly. They just make me even hotter and you can't wear them on the beach. Once you've taken them down once to go the loo you're stuffed.

Ginmonkeyagain · 31/07/2024 13:33

Lanacane gel is good.

I agree it is body shape not size. I used to get horrific chub rub as a teen and was a size 10 - 12.

Now I am a size 16 and rarely have any issues, even wandering round in a dress in very hot weather. The difference? Years of kickboxing and yoga - i think it has lengthened my thighs (but sadly not reduced them!)

@Twitchyeyebrow miss Mary has good ones

It's the root of the problem though. Extra fat on the thighs do rub and hurt. If she loses weight, she'll resolve the issue for next summer. There's not a lot else she can do, if the chub rub shorts aren't working.

As evidenced by the rest of the thread, losing weight won't necessarily resolve the issue. Telling a woman to lose a stone is both rude and simplistic. Beautiful is as beautiful does, 3.

No easy way to say this without being blunt, but it has to be your weight or shape.

This isn't an issue I've ever come across.

Awww @RedToothBrush, must be amazing to be so teeny tiny

Elphame · 31/07/2024 13:35

I'm also a size 12 and live in dresses in the summer.

I've never had a problem with thigh rub.

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 31/07/2024 13:35

Use the rub on balm that runners use to prevent chafing. Can't remember the name of it, it's expensive but lasts for ages

If your thighs rub and chafe, that's telling you something.

Kindly, as you did ask, if you can't wear something like a dress, you need to lose weight.

That’s not always true at all.

Many people with petite hips will rub because there isn’t the same gap.

Many heavy people with wide hips can carry a lot of thigh weight without them touching because they have those legs that start far apart at the hip ( like wooden horse rider dolls).

PolaDeVeboise · 31/07/2024 13:36

Try 'Innersy Slip Shorts' cotton and comfy. Size 18 here.

MrsMoastyToasty · 31/07/2024 13:37

I wear the cheapest 100% cotton cycling style shorts that I can buy. I usually pick some up from places like Peacocks or Yours.

BobnLen · 31/07/2024 13:37

It probably means you have a narrow neat bone structure, something I was always envious of when I was younger with my large bones, and couldn't stop a pig in an alley type shape.

I think it's just as hot here as abroad for some parts of summer amd I like to wear a dress. I use the snag chubrub tights (does anyone have any recommendations of other brands as I don't want to give them any future purchases?) under dresses. Yes they're slightly sweaty but I'm sweating anyway. 🤷

If I'm doing lots of walking though I tend to opt for shorts and t-shirt.

I couldn't not wear dresses all summer! I love a nice dress. Feel much more frumpy in shorts.

Primark do some for £6.

Kindly, you don’t have a clue.

Never had this problem

I'm sorry, but why am I getting abuse?

Sometimes there are explanations that you can't avoid. It's not trying to be nasty. I don't see how it helps anyone by not stating the obvious.

Women have traditionally worn dresses for centuries. How have they coped throughout history?

hannahwaddinghamsbiceps · 31/07/2024 13:38

To never ever buy from Snag again? http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/amiibeingunreasonable/4987388-to-never-ever-buy-from-snag-again

thehelpfulghost · 31/07/2024 13:39

My husband has this problem (he doesn't wear dresses) but shorts give him a thigh rash.
I haven't heard of liquid talc but came to say he finds talc works for him.
He's also not overweight but has thicker thighs and finds walking very far uncomfortable in the heat.

pinkstripeycat · 31/07/2024 13:39

Currently abroad in 37° heat and blazing sun. I’ve lost some weight around my thighs snd have been wearing loose, cotton, shift dresses. Normally I’d wear shorts for thigh rub. Definitely makes a difference having less chin on thighs

ArabellaFishwife · 31/07/2024 13:39

It's just a thigh shape thing. I usually wear dresses in summer, and never have this issue, in spite of being a few dress sizes bigger than I ought to be.

IamnotaStepfordHousewife · 31/07/2024 13:40

Used to use Snag, now use Popsy chub rub shorts they are great

mirrorlife · 31/07/2024 13:40

My skinny as can be DB gets this from running and uses body glide anti chafe balm- you can get it on Amazon.

Underpops from Popsy!

And their tights are awesome too. Much better than Snags which were far too baggy around the ankle for me.
