To wonder how women wear dresses in the heat

Please can someone help! How on earth are most people wafting about in dresses in the heat?

I'm a U.K. 12 and if I wear dresses in the summer with normal pants my thighs rub together so badly, it's impossible to walk more than 5 minutes!

I have chub rub pants which are great and I put up with how sweaty they make me, but they are absolutely not suitable for a holiday where I'm wearing little beach dresses etc and it's very hot.

I've tried thigh gel in the past and found it makes no difference, it rubs off right away.

Is this just me? I'm slightly overweight but not a lot and find this happens even when I'm slimmer.

yeah my skin will break out sometimes if I have not put liquid talc on after a shower. I am very overweight though and its not just between the thighs. I have used chub rub pants when wearing dresses and they're helpful too.

GoTigers · 31/07/2024 13:13

I love dresses in the heat but my legs don’t rub together.

TallulahBetty · 31/07/2024 13:13

Liquid talc and/or shorts underneath

InfoSecInTheCity · 31/07/2024 13:13

I prefer dresses, find trousers difficult because I have a big belly but no ass so they always either dig in or fall down.

I wear cycling shorts if it's really hot and I'm doing lots of walking but generally find on a normal day it's not an issue.

ReadingSoManyThreads · 31/07/2024 13:14

@Twitchyeyebrow curious as to why you don't want to give them any further purchases? Just wondering as I buy my tights from there.

Nobodywouldknow · 31/07/2024 13:17

Dresses are far cooler than other clothing items I find. And my thighs don’t rub together either. I’m also a size 12 but I have quite wide hips and that helps with not having chafing I think.

kfellover · 31/07/2024 13:17

I prefer dresses in this heat, especially being heavily pregnant. I just cycling shorts underneath my dress and it stops my thighs from rubbing but I think I’d actually rather deal with the pain of my thighs rubbing than wear trousers and be too hot.

PinkArt · 31/07/2024 13:17

Deodrant on the inner thighs on the rub zone. Mitcham roll on works best for me.

BobnLen · 31/07/2024 13:17

It's a bone structure thing, I have a thigh gap, no I am not skinny, I am size 14 but it means I can wear anything and never get chafing, so yes, I will be in a dress

I wear the chub rub shorts from snag tights. I don't find they overheat me. Dress and chub rub shorts is much cooler than trousers.

I have several pairs of the snag ones too. They are ace.

Fourteenrichteas · 31/07/2024 13:18

Are you apple shaped / narrow hips ? Because at a size 12 you can’t be overweight so it must be your shape? I’m usually an 8/10 with a thigh gap but I’m SO wide hipped that even when pregnant and a size 16 my thighs weren’t touching / rubbing so it has to be a shape not weight issue. Cotton cycling shorts may be a good option and cheaper ones so they are thinner

No easy way to say this without being blunt, but it has to be your weight or shape.

This isn't an issue I've ever come across.

When I first read this I thought what sort of person would seriously say this. Then I noticed the username.🙄

OP, I think it's safe to say you can ignore Red.

Sunnywashing · 31/07/2024 13:19

I've had this problem even when I was a size 12 (bit bigger now ahem...).

The shorts are OK but still quite hot but a game changer for me was to use roll on deoderant where it rubs, hello no sweaty thighs any more! Needs to be the good quality 24 hour kind of deoderant but definitley recommend.

TheKeatingFive · 31/07/2024 13:19

Having dealt with this issue all my life, I recommend cycling shorts.

justlonelystars · 31/07/2024 13:19

I’ve always had touching thighs and I’m also 9 months pregnant and can’t imagine wearing anything other than dresses! Hate waistbands digging in to me even when not pregnant (always seem to be the case when sitting down even if I size up). Love a floaty dress that is loose over the stomach for summer.

endofthelinefinally · 31/07/2024 13:19

Sloggi light weight long legged pants. Very cool and comfortable, hardly noticeable when you are wearing them.

Molecule · 31/07/2024 13:20

I’ve always had this problem and also have narrow hips, as do my daughters, who are slim but I guess have inherited my hips. I have a drawer full of different anti-rub knickers and have found Sloggi to be the best. Snag I found very sweaty.

Hummingbirdie · 31/07/2024 13:20

Personally never had this issue but I’m a different body shape

Molecule · 31/07/2024 13:21

@endofthelinefinally great minds!

I wear bicycle shorts under dresses. It's so much more comfortable imo. Not ideal for very short dresses - if you want to wear a short sundress can you get one of those ones that have built in shorts underneath? I think Halara do a few versions (but I've never tried them so can't speak to quality).

Cotton bicycle shorts, no undies. Very comfy.

DoIWantTo · 31/07/2024 13:21

I’m a uk size 12 and experience no issues wearing a dress, I don’t wear shorts under either. Just wear what makes you feel comfortable, that’s what everyone else is doing. If you don’t feel comfortable in a dress don’t wear one.

Mumof1andacat · 31/07/2024 13:22

Some people have more of a thigh gap. That's not because they are slimmer. It is generally to do with the way your pelvis and hips are aligned so a person if their hips are in a particular position will thigh rub more regardless of weight on their thighs.

UprootedSunflower · 31/07/2024 13:23

It’s not you being overweight, it’s a shape thing I’m afraid. I’m overweight with straight long thighs and have no issue. Don’t beat yourself up on that front.

BeeCucumber · 31/07/2024 13:23

Snag chub rub shorts are what works for me. They keep me cool. I also wear their capri footless tights under dresses. They are very comfortable.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 31/07/2024 13:23

Do final rinse of chub rub in WD40?
