To wonder how women wear dresses in the heat

Please can someone help! How on earth are most people wafting about in dresses in the heat?

I'm a U.K. 12 and if I wear dresses in the summer with normal pants my thighs rub together so badly, it's impossible to walk more than 5 minutes!

I have chub rub pants which are great and I put up with how sweaty they make me, but they are absolutely not suitable for a holiday where I'm wearing little beach dresses etc and it's very hot.

I've tried thigh gel in the past and found it makes no difference, it rubs off right away.

Is this just me? I'm slightly overweight but not a lot and find this happens even when I'm slimmer.

I have found Mega Babe Thigh Rescue to be very helpful. I’ve had it when I was 2-3 dress sizes smaller - it’s not just related to weight.

TubeScreamer · 31/07/2024 13:24

Dresses so much cooler and more comfortable than anything else.

size 12 and have never had this problem. must be a body shape thing?

If your thighs rub and chafe, that's telling you something.

Kindly, as you did ask, if you can't wear something like a dress, you need to lose weight.

You can look out for offers on Amazon, Argos, various online retailers. I got a pack of 3 for about £15 a year ago and they wash well.

I'm a fairly rounded size 10 but my thighs don't rub or even touch. I think it's down to body shape. I wear dresses sometimes, if I feel like it.

I get a sore bum if I walk a lot and sweat, so it's swings and roundabouts...

NonPlayerCharacter · 31/07/2024 13:26

My thighs touch (and how) but weirdly I don't have this problem. I actually think it's because my legs are short and fat, so they don't actually move very far from each other when I walk...the fatty inner thighs just kind of stay together as I move.

Harem trousers might be a good alternative? Not the dropped crotch ones.

Of course it’s to do with shape. That’s incredibly obvious…. Doesn’t necessarily make you overweight. I’m unsure what the point of your comment is if you have nothing to actually input?

Try liquid talcon powder. It’s a game changer!

It is to do with weight.

Everyone's thighs 'meet' at the top but if they are rubbing when you walk and causing discomfort, it's because of weight.

OneBadKitty · 31/07/2024 13:26

I’m a size 12 and never noticed my thighs rubbing. Try talc!

Dresses are comfy- especially floaty with no waistband types.

Cobblersorchard · 31/07/2024 13:27

My thighs rubbed even when I was a 6-8, I will only have a thigh gap when I’m a skeleton as I have really narrow hips and pelvis.

I’m a 12-14 now and I wear the snag shorts and they make me cooler rather than sweatier. I don’t wear very short dresses for walking about in though, save them for home or pool on hol.

I’m in a midi today with my snags and very comfortable.

I need help with underboob sweat though. That’s my nemesis now.

I've a BMI of about 22. I'm not overweight, but I do carry weight in my thighs. It's to so with how fat is distributed.

HotCrossBunplease · 31/07/2024 13:27

You’ve been using the wrong “thigh gel”. Keep trying different brands, one will work.

I use Neat 3B cream.

K0OLA1D · 31/07/2024 13:27

I wear a 14 and my thighs don't touch. I normally only wear pants and no bra under a dress so I like the draft!

Not very practical advice on how to beat the heat this week.

It's the root of the problem though. Extra fat on the thighs do rub and hurt. If she loses weight, she'll resolve the issue for next summer. There's not a lot else she can do, if the chub rub shorts aren't working.

Talcum powder.

Wouldn’t you leave a trail of white powder from your floof area? That might look odd …

Calliopespa · 31/07/2024 13:29

I can only wear shorts in the heat. Anything else makes me feel like I’m wrapped in a duvet.

madameparis · 31/07/2024 13:29

It’s just some people’s bodies, not to do with weight. I’ve been a size 6 and I’ve been a size 16….. never had thighs rubbing together.

BestZebbie · 31/07/2024 13:29

I only wear dresses on the hottest 4-5 days of the year - I wear Popsy skater dresses that swish out from the waist and wear the Popsy shorts beneath (they are basically cycling shorts made of tights fabric, but not prone to rip quite as instantly as tights).
This is incidentally the ideal outfit to attend a paddling pool with a small child as you can tie the stretchy skirt up in a knot at your waist and it doesn't matter if you flash a few inches of brightly coloured shorts beneath as they match and are thick enough to be seen, and it all dries immediately.

I hardly put on any weight until I turned 60 and became seriously ill. I was put on many drugs that caused weight gain and destroyed my bones.
Just because someone is overweight doesn't mean they are greedy and lazy.

Well of course it's her shape. Some people have thighs that touch. This basic fact of life has clearly eluded you to date (do you live on an island with no other inhabitants, perhaps?) but what the fuck does that have to do with the question she's asking?

What a snotty, unhelpful contribution to the thread.

The OP was AIBU to wonder how women wear dresses in the heat. It’s a daft question. Women do not universally suffer from thigh rub. It’s entirely dependent on weight and shape. It’s not a snotty and unhelpful response to the question since many of us don’t experience the issue and are perfectly comfortable wearing dresses in hot weather. Your reply however…..

Cheeseandcrackers40 · 31/07/2024 13:30

I love a dress but don't have the thigh rub issue (I did one summer when I was a bit heavier - and wore cycling shorts). I did however buy a unitard for yoga this year and I have worn it to the beach etc as well 🙈 it's so comfy that I feel like I'm not wearing any clothes at all... Would recommend for pure comfort in the heat!

She could lose weight but not make significant difference in the thighs to solve the problem.

No it isn’t, I still had it when I was underweight. My thighs rub whatever size I am. I was a very small young adult (not now) and if anything it was worse when I was skinny, not better.

My thighs are very close together, not just at the top. My friend that is significantly bigger than me doesn’t have them touching at all-she can’t grip a pen between hers as there’s a permanent gap, but she’s wearing size 18+

FlatCola · 31/07/2024 13:31

When I'm slim my thighs only touch in small area and it's less of an issue but when I'm chonky my jeans show excess wear in thigh area, but lightweight trousers will creep up as they rub. So i prefer undershorts and dress ( must be breathable fabric) as then get more airflow around legs, I hate my legs so wouldn't wear shorts but expect unless tight the crotch creep would be worse.

My thighs rubbed at 9 stone and 5”7. A size 8/10 on the bottom.
You’re right, if I lost every ounce of fat and was a mere skeleton, they wouldn’t. But that isn’t realistic is it?
