To wonder how women wear dresses in the heat

inthekiddle · 31/07/2024 12:49

Please can someone help! How on earth are most people wafting about in dresses in the heat?

I'm a U.K. 12 and if I wear dresses in the summer with normal pants my thighs rub together so badly, it's impossible to walk more than 5 minutes!

I have chub rub pants which are great and I put up with how sweaty they make me, but they are absolutely not suitable for a holiday where I'm wearing little beach dresses etc and it's very hot.

I've tried thigh gel in the past and found it makes no difference, it rubs off right away.

Is this just me? I'm slightly overweight but not a lot and find this happens even when I'm slimmer.

I wear dresses in all weather, Heck I hike in dresses
I wear cycling shorts, cropped leggings or full length leggings depending on temperature
I hiked yesterday in a sun dress and cycle shorts
Was i hot? Yup but sweat won't kill me, I own a shower and I don't care what other folks think of me lol
I know some people use Asda liquid talk or the anti chafing sticks but I can't be arsed with that
You can buy thigh bands from shein, Temu and probably amazon but I have a lot of thigh to cover so just go with what I know works

@vickylou78 thank you! Can I ask what size you get? I'm a 12-14, should I size up or down? Or even up to a 16? The site I'm looking at says take a size above your size...

And thanks everyone else I feel like I've got a veritable army to battle the rub with!

I've tried out my decathlon cycling shorts today but find they ride up/have gone a bit baggy. Like the cotton though compared to the M&S version. Am thinking sloggi may work. But I think I'll also try snag of similar to snag when I'm next in the uk.

The roll on deo has definitely helped when I didn't have the shorts on. Maybe not for all day but certainly would help for short outings. Will also look into oil and liquid talc

The Sloggi chub rub shorts I'm not sure what size I got but I am a size 14 and they are perfect. I'll see if I can dig out my order email for the size. I liked the Sloggi ones as they are just normal waist height so feel like wearing a normal pair of pants.

Snag tights you wear up under you bra which I haven't got on with so well.

So I've checked and I sized up and got a size 16 (I'm a 14).

So if you are a 12 normally I'd go for size 14.

You don’t wear Snag tights up under your bra - they’re just tights!

Mine go up to under my bra 😳🤣 this isn't a thing??

Mine go nowhere near my bra! They are quite high waisted but not bra height. You must have the wrong size surely.

tiutinkerbell · 05/08/2024 06:31

I'm a size 8 and still have issues with thigh rub because I have big legs from the sport I do - deffo not just a weight issue, totally a 'shape' issue! I live abroad and it is really hot in the summer, so I use a lot of BodyGlide (I find this is the most sweat resistant one and comes in a easy rub-on applicator that fits in my handbag) and also wear the M&S anti-chafing shorts if I am going to be a doing a bit more walking or it's going to be super hot.

Snag say on their website they are aimed to come just below the bra line. But on me they definitely do go there because I have a short torso and I find them uncomfortable. Suspect on long bodied folk may come nearer waist.

Sounreasonable · 05/08/2024 08:22

@inthekiddle The cheapest and best thing I’ve found is primark viscose leggings- cost about £2 a pair and I cut them to the length I want.

Soft, lightweight, custom length chub rub shorts for £2!

That’s what I assumed. They come well to the waist, but not under my bra. And actually, mine are a bit big because I’ve lost weight, so must be a very wrong size.

Surlyburd · 05/08/2024 08:47

Chub rub shorts or liquid talc on the thighs. Life saver.

Chillilounger · 05/08/2024 08:58

How do you not wear dresses in this heat? I am 12-14 but have never had an issue with things rubbing together even post kids when I was a real 14.

Bambooshoot · 05/08/2024 12:35

This thread is so funny - reminds me of that scene in Family Guy where Meg asks her mum if she ever feels “not so fresh down there” and Lois answers “No, there must be something wrong with you”. Meg, horrified, asks “really?” and Lois says “I’ve never felt like that and I don’t know any woman who has”. They are always so mean to poor Meg.

So many women seem desperate to be Lois here!

inthekiddle · 05/08/2024 17:25

Thank you @vickylou78 ! And @Sounreasonable I will try that if I can get to a primark.

I live in dresses and am generally cold but I have low body fat and a thigh gap.
I would suggest maybe a cool jump suit or play suit?

FOJN · 05/08/2024 18:56

MummyLongLegsss · 31/07/2024 13:26

It is to do with weight.

Everyone's thighs 'meet' at the top but if they are rubbing when you walk and causing discomfort, it's because of weight.

This isn't true. At 5'5", 8st 6lb, BMI of less than 20 I used to have this problem. I was very toned too as I did a lot of exercise. It has got worse as I've gained weight but it was always there.

I wouldn't know what else to wear in hot weather! Currently on holiday and have a day dress and an evening dress (not an actual evening gown 🤣) for each day. I love dresses!

You can look out for offers on Amazon, Argos, various online retailers. I got a pack of 3 for about £15 a year ago and they wash well.

Thanks for the tip. I ordered a pair following your recommendation, they arrived yesterday and I’ve been wearing them all day today with a dress. You were right, they much such a difference, so comfortable.

hulahooper2 · 13/08/2024 23:12

Ive never had chub rub , guess I should consider myself lucky

spikeandbuffy24 · 14/08/2024 08:58

I just got the snag shorties as they had a free postage offer
Comfortable but useless on me as they ride up constantly, sort of rolling up. Was hoping they would work as their tights are good on me

missshilling · 14/08/2024 09:02

Can’t you just walk with you feet further apart?

Meggie2008 · 14/08/2024 09:12

I have the snag shorts as well, they're a nice thing material so don't make you sweaty and the don't roll up on me either

Grin what like some wide legged weirdo? You ever tried to do that?!

StarlightLady · 14/08/2024 09:44

I usually live in dresses from around April until the end of September. No probs at all. But l do wonder how people can wear trousers on a warm summer’s day.

Use chamois cream.
I've used it for years for my chub rub and its made summer so much more bearable.
