To wonder how women wear dresses in the heat

Please can someone help! How on earth are most people wafting about in dresses in the heat?

I'm a U.K. 12 and if I wear dresses in the summer with normal pants my thighs rub together so badly, it's impossible to walk more than 5 minutes!

I have chub rub pants which are great and I put up with how sweaty they make me, but they are absolutely not suitable for a holiday where I'm wearing little beach dresses etc and it's very hot.

I've tried thigh gel in the past and found it makes no difference, it rubs off right away.

Is this just me? I'm slightly overweight but not a lot and find this happens even when I'm slimmer.

I wear dresses in this sort of heat.

I'm pretty overweight but my thighs don't rub. To be fair I don't walk much either.

I find I get horribly hot in t shirt and trousers.

Truetoself · 31/07/2024 12:53

Wear cycling shorts underneath

OptimismvsRealism · 31/07/2024 12:53

I can't wear trousers comfortably at the best of times

I think some people have wider hips and so thighs don't meet in the middle

Stompythedinosaur · 31/07/2024 12:53

I wear the chub rub shorts from snag tights. I don't find they overheat me. Dress and chub rub shorts is much cooler than trousers.

sunsetsandboardwalks · 31/07/2024 12:53

Talcum powder.

RedToothBrush · 31/07/2024 12:54

No easy way to say this without being blunt, but it has to be your weight or shape.

This isn't an issue I've ever come across.

TheKingCobraIsNotStrictlySpeakingACobra · 31/07/2024 12:54

M&S chub rub shorts, don’t make me too hot

or swap pants for cotton Slogi shorts that are basically pants with longer legs.

MartinsSpareCalculator · 31/07/2024 12:55

I'm a 12-14 and my thighs don't rub together. I like a dress because they tend to be cooler for me.

Danikm151 · 31/07/2024 12:55

Snag chub rub shorts have temp control

liquid talc is good too

Of course it’s to do with shape. That’s incredibly obvious…. Doesn’t necessarily make you overweight. I’m unsure what the point of your comment is if you have nothing to actually input?

Try liquid talcon powder. It’s a game changer!

LizzeyBenett · 31/07/2024 12:56

If I was doing a lot of walking I'd put shape wear shorts under the dress to stop the chaffing actually just hit a cheap pair off SHEIN for exactly this

Twitchyeyebrow · 31/07/2024 12:56

I think it's just as hot here as abroad for some parts of summer amd I like to wear a dress. I use the snag chubrub tights (does anyone have any recommendations of other brands as I don't want to give them any future purchases?) under dresses. Yes they're slightly sweaty but I'm sweating anyway. 🤷

If I'm doing lots of walking though I tend to opt for shorts and t-shirt.

I couldn't not wear dresses all summer! I love a nice dress. Feel much more frumpy in shorts.

SnapBang · 31/07/2024 12:56

I’ve never experienced thigh rub, it must be a shape thing and we’re all so different. Personally I find dresses to be the coolest, most comfortable thing to wear in the heat.

TwistedSisters · 31/07/2024 12:56

I find dresses the best thing to wear in this weather .... I get sweat lines round the waistband with shorts or trousers. Dresses are lovely and cool.

KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 31/07/2024 12:57

Don’t wear pants under the modesty shorts. That way it’s not an extra layer.

It is build. I had it worse at a size 14 than my current 16 strangely.

DelilahBucket · 31/07/2024 12:57

I carry most of my weight on my thighs. I love wearing skirts and dresses so use Body Glide or wear shorts. I did find it was less of a problem when I was a size 10-12 whereas I am currently a 14 and it's particularly bad.

Borninabarn32 · 31/07/2024 12:58

I wear cycle shorts. Not the elasticy sports fabric type ones. The cottony, cheap leggings material ones.

Seaglassandchampagne · 31/07/2024 12:58

I wear bicycle shorts under dresses. It's so much more comfortable imo. Not ideal for very short dresses - if you want to wear a short sundress can you get one of those ones that have built in shorts underneath? I think Halara do a few versions (but I've never tried them so can't speak to quality).

Octavia64 · 31/07/2024 12:58

It's not whether you are fat or not it's your shape.

I'm a size 18 and have never had this.

CrumbleTots · 31/07/2024 12:58

Are the chub rub things supposed to be worn over knickers or instead of?

Also interested in recommendations other than snag.

Instead of. Makes all the difference.

phoenixrosehere · 31/07/2024 13:00

I use moisturising lotion or dry oil on my skin.

LittleBitAlexisLaLaLaLaLa · 31/07/2024 13:00

I use roll on deodorant liberally on my inner thighs. Works quite well. Aerosol doesn’t work as well.

Well of course it's her shape. Some people have thighs that touch. This basic fact of life has clearly eluded you to date (do you live on an island with no other inhabitants, perhaps?) but what the fuck does that have to do with the question she's asking?

What a snotty, unhelpful contribution to the thread.

Craftycorvid · 31/07/2024 13:00

Depends on the shape, colour and fabric of your dress, I think. Linen tent in a light colour - comfy and cool to waft about in. Fitted frock in a dark colour or non-breathable fabric, too much. Shorts or chub rub pants ideal underneath.
