To wonder how women wear dresses in the heat

Please can someone help! How on earth are most people wafting about in dresses in the heat?

I'm a U.K. 12 and if I wear dresses in the summer with normal pants my thighs rub together so badly, it's impossible to walk more than 5 minutes!

I have chub rub pants which are great and I put up with how sweaty they make me, but they are absolutely not suitable for a holiday where I'm wearing little beach dresses etc and it's very hot.

I've tried thigh gel in the past and found it makes no difference, it rubs off right away.

Is this just me? I'm slightly overweight but not a lot and find this happens even when I'm slimmer.

I wear the chub rub shorts from snag tights. I don't find they overheat me. Dress and chub rub shorts is much cooler than trousers.

Same.

I'm pregnant and overheating very easily but these snag ones don't overheat me

Middleagedspreadisreal · 01/08/2024 18:03

I love a dress in Summer. Cooler.

eatentoomanygrapes · 01/08/2024 18:04

Try Smoovall!! It’s a spray that stops chafe

MidnightMusing5 · 01/08/2024 18:06

Floaty loose dresses catch / create a breeze when walking and the breeze keeps you cool ; and the coverage protects you from the suns rays.

Have you never worn a loose floaty garment in the heat? It is way more cooling that walking around with very little on. (Provided it’s natural fabric)

MayonnaiseOnMyChips · 01/08/2024 18:07

I'm wearing cycling shorts underneath mine

BennyBee · 01/08/2024 18:07

I find dresses the coolest thing to wear in the heat. Friends have recently said the same to me re rubbing thighs but it has never been an issue for me and had not even occurred to me, to be honest. I guess you are pear shaped?

Have you never read even the OP to know what the thread is about?

I was about to say these!! They’re so light like tights material but they don’t make you sweat and you can easily just pull them up a little more for very short dresses!

Sunshineandpool · 01/08/2024 18:42

This sounds strange but I used to get chub rub more when I was slimmer.

I do wear a lot of long trousers in the summer though that are lovely and cool. Seem to create a breeze on my legs as I walk!

I recently bought some of these & I can honestly say that they are a total life changer, they're more flappy around the legs than cycling shorts. I can walk around all day feeling much cooler.

GandDiva · 01/08/2024 18:44

Liquid talc off Amazon or Snag chub rub shorts

Thegreatestoftheseislove · 01/08/2024 18:50

Pack of cheap tights from Primarni, cut off at the knee and you can even cut out the gusset to make 'em cooler - job done. Cheap as chips anti-chub-rubs.

Thefsm · 01/08/2024 18:56

I only own dresses and am a big woman, I always wear leggings underneath no matter how hot. I just get used to them. It can be 104• here a lot in summer.

talc helps too

Had no idea this would be such a popular topic!!

I have been trying to make a list of all the suggestions and work through them. I live in Europe which complicates matters in terms of getting stuff posted!

Today I am trialling roll on deodorant and I have bought some cotton cycling shorts. Will see if they're any cooler than the M&S big pants I have.

In uk we have asda own little angels liquid talc and i swear by it

Steppingintome · 01/08/2024 19:05

When I was almost 8 stone heavier I used to rub so much my skin bled. It was awful. I tried talc but it just made a paste (think Ross in friends) I haven’t tried the liquid stuff. Vaseline worked well and is available everywhere (I tried explaining what I needed to none English speakers in Spain once and soon as I mentioned Vaseline they knew exactly what I ment lol) but the best was the snag shorts. Amazing

Now I’m lighter I still rub a bit but not as much. I use the shorts on really hot days but on warm days I just use a bit of deodorant

BornLippy88 · 01/08/2024 19:13

I think it's just how your body is shaped, I'm carrying more weight than I'd like but don't have issues. TMI, but I love dresses because sweat doesn't collect at the waistband Blush

I’m very overweight. I love wearing dresses in the heat as it gives me a lot more space. (Especially as I swell up)

i use a mix of chub rub shorts and cycling shorts

Bournetilly · 01/08/2024 19:18

Cycling shorts

BananaLambo · 01/08/2024 19:23

Unless my dress is very fitted I just wear shorts - like loose pyjama shorts under my dress, not so much for chub rub, but I just feel more secure. I hate the feel of tights and leggings but a nice loose pair of pyjama shorts is lovely.

DianaAntoniaJasmine · 01/08/2024 19:24

It is preference and the thighs are genetic.
I’m 126kg and my legs are shapely and don’t rub at the top. I’m fat yes but I’m a size 18/20 in leggings and 24/26/28 in dresses so a bit too heavy lol!

andfinallyhereweare · 01/08/2024 19:27

try vaseoline

Lovemycat2023 · 01/08/2024 19:29

I’m a size 12 /14 and the top of my thighs rub, but don’t chafe. No idea why (maybe it’s sweat lubricating it - sorry!). It’s the very top so they rub in shorts / loose trousers too. Doesn’t make much difference what I wear.

Erm, those of us in the UK still live in “Europe” too. We just had Brexit (unfortunately), didn’t move continents 😀.
