To wonder how women wear dresses in the heat

Please can someone help! How on earth are most people wafting about in dresses in the heat?

I'm a U.K. 12 and if I wear dresses in the summer with normal pants my thighs rub together so badly, it's impossible to walk more than 5 minutes!

I have chub rub pants which are great and I put up with how sweaty they make me, but they are absolutely not suitable for a holiday where I'm wearing little beach dresses etc and it's very hot.

I've tried thigh gel in the past and found it makes no difference, it rubs off right away.

Is this just me? I'm slightly overweight but not a lot and find this happens even when I'm slimmer.

Btw, I have a much bigger size than you. Without my cotton shorts my legs would be sore within minutes as well. But as they are cotton, it absorbs the moisture.

RLouiseH · 01/08/2024 22:28

Gosh, the people making comments about you needing to do something about your weight… I have no words! You’re a size 12!

To echo what a lot are saying, I use snag too and absolutely swear by them, I went through a phase of really struggling with this a couple of years ago and snags absolutely saved me!

My friends and I were in Barcelona a couple of years ago and two of us (one a size 18 and one a size 10- so go figure) were struggling and we used google translate to find out how to ask “do you sell talc powder?” in a pharmacy, and ended up applying some in a lift on the way up to a rooftop bar…. a guy got in and must have wondered what on earth we were doing 🤣 (not a helpful anecdote, I am aware, just relatively amusing!)

Efrogwraig · 01/08/2024 22:51

Find cotton chub tub shorts. Amazon a good source or just google them. Excellent!

Never use talc.
It is basically a ground up rock and has been linked to cancer.

If you think powder would help, buy cornstarch powder.

oh my goodness: the floof powder option is getting worse.
How about flour? Floured buns.
That is true about talc though.

I'm a big girl and wear dresses a lot. I wear cotton PJ shorts underneath them.

Cool, baggy & comfy.

I can't wear trousers comfortably at the best of times

I think some people have wider hips and so thighs don't meet in the middle

I agree with this, my hips are quite wide relative to me being generally fairly long and narrow, so my thighs don’t touch.

anon666 · 01/08/2024 23:18

My BMI was up to 38 at one point, and my thighs only just started to rub.

In case anyone thought their thighs not rubbing gave them body fascist bragging rights. 🤣🤣

They started to rub at about BMI of 36, and I used liquid talc and some kind of special cream.

Are these the cotton ones or non cotton?

They are cotton and are soooo comfy. Have a proper gusset so you can even wear them instead of knickers. They are really stretchy so don't even remember you are wearing them.

Legs that don't meet.

My sister has the thigh rubbing issue but she’s slim and muscular and so her thighs rub. She’s just a size 8/10. I’m more of a 10/12 and have never had this issue.

Se always wears shorts to avoid her thighs rubbing together. I would do the same as dresses that are light and flowing are all that I can wear in warm or hot temperatures- it feels free.

Smithwinkle · 02/08/2024 01:25

My shape causes this too and I’ve found that the non scented Cuticura Talc stops the chaffing. It also helps under boobs if you have big ones and stops fungal infections as well as chaffing. However if anyone knows of underwear that could hold in my tummy without 1) making me hot/sweaty or 2) feeling like I’m trussed up like a Xmas turkey. I too am a size 12 but 4 major abdominal ops have left my tummy with a slight overhang and lip where the scarring is.

dimsumfatsum · 02/08/2024 02:23

See through nude rights with the feet chopped off. The ride up high enough to cover the things and provide ventilation. Also, a recent discovery has been oiled thighs- no rub and soft legs!

I’ve never experienced thigh rub, it must be a shape thing and we’re all so different. Personally I find dresses to be the coolest, most comfortable thing to wear in the heat.

This.

It must be shape & build as well, though, @missshilling. I'm a size 16-18 and haven't had a thigh gap since I was a teen with anorexia. Mine don't rub, though! (Touch wood!)

I am a size 16 and mine don't rub either - and I definitely don't have a thigh gap!

Jumpers4goalposts · 02/08/2024 07:44

Snag chub rub shorts are the way forward, I find they make me cooler. You can wear they shorter than they come too.

2Rebecca · 02/08/2024 07:48

Dresses are cooler as the air gets to your legs

ClonedSquare · 02/08/2024 07:59

I wear cycling short leggings under my dresses, and all my dresses come to the knee or longer.

I’m very plus size but only get chub rub when walking long distances. I could wear them without the shorts for short periods where I’m not walking much like work, the pub or a restaurant etc.

TheFireflies · 02/08/2024 08:28

Chub rubs
talc (or non-talc powder, rather)
Lanacane anti-chafing gel

Talcum powder, or vaseline. Lots of it.

PC7102 · 02/08/2024 12:10

I’ve got chub rub shorts from snag which are brilliant and don’t make you get more hot. I wore them walking around Disney in Florida and never got any rubbing and they didn’t make me even hotter/sweatier

AlwaysKnackered2010 · 02/08/2024 15:52

Try the chub rub shorts from big bloomers, I find these a lot cooler than snag ones. Also try irelive by ivyydure. If you put this on and let dry before you go out this helps too is great for in swimwear. I prefer the shorts though under a dress

DiduAye · 02/08/2024 18:08

Nothing has worked for me except Snag chub rub shorts Absolute game changer!

cakewench · 02/08/2024 18:46

I wear cycling shorts underneath dresses. Snag shorts are okay but I rarely wear them anymore

Bonus to cycling shorts is that most have a small pocket now, which comes in handy.

inthekiddle · 02/08/2024 18:56

@vickylou78 thank you! Can I ask what size you get? I'm a 12-14, should I size up or down? Or even up to a 16? The site I'm looking at says take a size above your size...

And thanks everyone else I feel like I've got a veritable army to battle the rub with!

I've tried out my decathlon cycling shorts today but find they ride up/have gone a bit baggy. Like the cotton though compared to the M&S version. Am thinking sloggi may work. But I think I'll also try snag of similar to snag when I'm next in the uk.

The roll on deo has definitely helped when I didn't have the shorts on. Maybe not for all day but certainly would help for short outings. Will also look into oil and liquid talc

No easy way to say this without being blunt, but it has to be your weight or shape.

This isn't an issue I've ever come across.

No shit Sherlock 😂

OP - when I was 9st with a BMI of 19 my thighs stills rubbed together so don’t take it as a “overweight” problem… some people are just built like it.

agree that snag tight chub run shorts are a game changer
