‘Children’ and ‘adults’ in Southport massacre

Supersimkin7 · 30/07/2024 20:43

All the papers are reporting that the Southport victims are ‘children’ who
were protected by ‘adults’.

The Southport victims are little girls who were protected by two women, now fighting for their lives.

No one needs to report what sex the killer is.

Male violence against women is a national emergency, say the police.

AIBU to think misgendering a massacre is the lowest of the low?

Children have died. Have some respect.
Not the time for whatever point you’re trying to make. How would it have been any more or less of a tragedy if little boys had been killed?

CurbsideProphet · 30/07/2024 20:52

At least one man from a nearby business was injured trying to help. The reporting was vague to protect the identities of those hurt.

SecretToryVoter · 30/07/2024 20:53

How has anyone been misgendered?

Redshoeblueshoe · 30/07/2024 20:55

A man was stabbed in the leg trying to stop the attacker. Hopefully he is being released tonight. This was on ITV news this evening.

rainbowunicorn · 30/07/2024 20:55

There was also a PT who was male who confronted the killer, along with other men who were hurt trying to help

MrsTerryPratchett · 30/07/2024 20:57

Wonderful men who tried to help, yes. Bloody good for them.

However this is male violence towards women and girls and naming it is important. Violent men targeting women and girls is something we need to tackle. Yes, it's a subsection of male violence in general, all of which is a blight. But we can name it.

Cheesecakelunch · 30/07/2024 20:57

Not sure what point you are even trying to make. This isn't the time anyway and absolutely irrelevant anyway. Have some sensitivity and get a grip. This is massively upsetting and tragic.

Toddlerteaplease · 30/07/2024 20:57

I think it really doesn't matter, and I do t think it's actually been confirmed that it is two women?

Pigeonqueen · 30/07/2024 20:58

The people trying to help the children were both women and men. Adults is an appropriate term.

Ponoka7 · 30/07/2024 20:58

I found it interesting that the attacker has been described as a minor, child himself etc. But when teen female children are murdered the are called young women. I know what you mean. This all female activity was picked ,likely because it was women and girls.

FayKM · 30/07/2024 21:02

Have some respect. Children have died.

Does it really matter how the media report.

If one of these children were yours , you'd not be worrying about something so insignificant as media reporting.

Hooligans burning a police van ( the same police that risked their lives yesterday and witnessed the horrors) , mosque damaged, that's what misinformation and disrespectful people cause.

GabriellaMontez · 30/07/2024 21:02

How do you know the sex of all the children?

CurbsideProphet · 30/07/2024 21:05

The vague reporting was to protect the identities of the girls who were murdered and harmed. I don't know how you can't understand this.

CosmicDaisyChain · 30/07/2024 21:06

Do you actually understand what misgendering is?

cheddercherry · 30/07/2024 21:07

Do you really think now is the time for whatever point you’re making?

It was children and adults involved. It’s not misgendering to describe someone’s age? The two teachers are female as described in every news report clearly and at least three male businesses owners/ passers by helped to break down the doors, carry out injured children and confront the attacker - one of which was injured himself doing so. All of the victims have been clearly named as little girls and described as such, and for the record a little boy was also attending the class and many siblings of both sexes were outside as this unfolded being blocked from entering by police and witnessing the carnage. I’m sure none of the parents of those poor children are pouring over imagined misgendering in newspaper articles.

Wormfanclub · 30/07/2024 21:09

Agreed 100%. It is targeted violence against women and girls.

The attacker specifically got in a taxi to the Taylor Swift-themed dance class, run by women.

Of course it was a targeted attack against women and girls. We need to start tackling this as a country.

Lilysgoneshopping · 30/07/2024 21:09

Reporting "adults and children" is not misgendering. Men came running to help. Emergency services would be men and women. Why are you nitpicking about this?
3 little girls have been murdered.
Give your head a wobble ffs

LlamaNoDrama · 30/07/2024 21:12

Were they all girls? Has that been confirmed?

Pigeonqueen · 30/07/2024 21:14

LlamaNoDrama · 30/07/2024 21:12

Were they all girls? Has that been confirmed?

Yes. All over every news channel.

DancingNotDrowning · 30/07/2024 21:19

OP you’ve misunderstood what “misgendering” means.

but I agree with the point I think you’re trying to make, that this was a targeted attach on girls. It wasn’t coincidental, it was deliberate and planned VAWAG and it should be acknowledged and reported as such.

LlamaNoDrama · 30/07/2024 21:25

@Pigeonqueen where? I've looked at sky and bbc and it's still referring to the children as children. I can't see anything that says all those attacked were definitely all girls.

opalescented · 30/07/2024 21:27

It's children and adults until their names are confirmed and released. Some of those injured may not want their names released. Privacy is important.

Pigeonqueen · 30/07/2024 21:30

The live feed on the bbc news app has the families of the girls referring to them as girls / she. It’s there. And probably elsewhere but definitely there.

saraclara · 30/07/2024 21:30

FFS. Obsessed or what?

GabriellaMontez · 30/07/2024 21:33

Pigeonqueen · 30/07/2024 21:14

Yes. All over every news channel.

There are several children in hospital still. Where have you seen their sex specified?
