Men are too comfortable in public

This is the first time I’ve really noticed it but as I was playing with my son in a park, a man was on the phone with his hand literally inside his trousers as he paced. Every now and then he’s pull it out and scratch his balls and put it back in. Like all the way in. It’s weird. I could never get away with doing this. It’s rude and I don’t want to have to see that. I feel like this wouldn’t have happened 50-100 years ago and it’s slobbish and disgusting not to mention unhygienic. I feel unreasonable for being annoyed at this. They’re so comfortable in society that the park is like their bedroom apparently. Whereas women often feel the need to make themselves as small as possible in society. Rant over.

An interesting post, op about sex/gender and public spaces. I do feel a pressure to behave in a certain ‘ladylike’ way when out in public, yes, that’s true. Through social conditioning, I suppose. Stand up straight, don’t take up too much space on public transport, have a pleasant expression on your face (although the ‘cheer up love, it might never happen!’ Seem to be no more??) I do like politeness though or treating others how one would want to be treated eg holding doors open, giving people space to get by, letting people (men or women) go first if appropriate. So not sure if I am socially conditioned as a woman or just as a polite person.

Some men are definitely boorish ie loud and crass and it’s all about them. I tend to avoid them like the plague. I was in a bar yesterday and one of these boorish type men was eyeing me up, he was standing at the bar talking about how many women he’d slept with - it was awful, I really wanted to say,’people who are the best lovers hardly ever feel the need to talk about it’ but I didn’t, I just got my drink and walked off.

My DH is a real gentleman and would never behave like the photos though maybe he is a dying breed.

If a woman had to rearrange an errant thong in public and a man took a photo of her doing it what would he be called? Slightly different scenario but same weird creepy behaviour on your part.

Well … breastfeeding is nourishing a baby, whereas scratching your balls is … just scratching your balls. There is no real equivalency there.

PS if they are itching so much that you absolutely have to scratch them right then, and can’t wait until you are in private, you might want to pop to the doctor.

A man was doing that outside my DGD infant school. I asked him why he was playing with himself outside a school? He soon stopped.

anyway women get up skirt photos so regularly that we have to have signs on the bus about it but men go out of their way to expose themselves and we should just deal with it and shut up.

Honestly I have NEVER seen this before (at least never noticed) so fair enough I’m young and probably naive but this was genuinely shocking ‘need a photo or you won’t believe it’ to me. I see it’s obviously not to others 😂

I've seen this quite a few times, and had a man yell at me to draw my attention to the fact he had his hands down his pants once as he was crossing a very busy road. They're nearly always wearing dirty white jogging bottoms in my experience.

Saw a man and his girlfriend/wife 8in a Waitrose wearing track bottoms with his hand clearly playing with his balls. Saw him later picking up the loose bread rolls - which I was hoping to buy. Happens all the time now. Blokes, usually in tracksuits, or tracksuit shorts, hands down pants just comfort holding. Just why is this now acceptable in public? Not only do they piss in pubic but now have to hold and scratch their genitalia.

I almost got spat on the other day. Walking towards a supermarket door a man decided to hock up a giant phlegm throat bogey and turn his head as he spat. It flew past my ear like a tiny jellyfish to splat on the floor by the door so lots of people would have stepped on it. I thought then I don’t think I’ve ever encountered a woman doing the street spitting stuff - why?
