Why do people hate on my fur coat

I’ve a fur coat that I inherited from my Grandmother. It’s a full length mink coat & I absolutely love it. I even wear it in summer.
As we’ve been having terrible weather I’ve been using it, and for the first time people are hating on me for wearing fur. They throw insults that I’m an animal killer, cruel, support the fur industry- on and on it goes.
I think it’s just jealousy. Others would love to own such a statement piece.
Are they all wrong and I’m right, I have a right to wear what I want, I didn’t kill anything & the coat comes from another era. Actually I’m saving it from landfill.

NO one has worn real fur for the last 30 -30 years - it's very passe. Cruelty to animals.

I wouldn't buy a fur coat but if I was given.one I would wear it. Otherwise the animals died for no reason.

I can understand why wearing fur would be practical in very cold and places but surely it would only be truly practical for the fur to be the lining rather than on the outside?

My gran has a fur coat she inherited it from her mother, who inherited it from her mother so it must be well over 100 years old. She would never buy fur but it seems almost wasteful just to bin it and her local charity shops wouldn't take it, so she wears it and tells people it's faux fur

I can’t really see a mink coat as any morally worse than a shearling or leather coat, except I don’t think anyone would have a mink pie. All too hot for comfort now most of us go everywhere by car.

However, and I’m sorry but I can’t resist @CleanCityBird ranch or wild darling? A friend of my grandmother’s once said that and without irony.

And if your daughter was concerned, why didn’t she speak to a member of staff in the shop? Why Twitter? Publicity?

Vintage fur is obviously less morally bankrupt and I don’t think you’re wrong to keep it for its purpose.

However-

Fur is probably more ethical than fake petro chemical stuff.

I have some lovely modern pieces and get compliments.

just remember not to carry bags with a shoulder strap as this will wear the shoulder. Ditto the pockets, if you use them the exterior will wear back to the leather.

This is a really good idea and when the time comes that would seem a fitting place for my gran's inherited one. She loves the theatre so would approve

I'm surprised people realise it is real fur. Most fur now is fake. Is it one of those that has the animal's head incorporated into the design?

Honestly I wear tonnes of fake fur coats (love the look) and real leather/suede (use to own fake pleather but fake one desolve into microplastics) but frankly I have NEVER been jealous of a vintage real fur coat.

I have collected vintage clothes for years and yet to meet a fur that didn't stink to high heaven of 'rotting' damp and for lack of a better term 'dandruff'. The smell of real furs is just repugnant, its not like leather or even suede that can hold up well.

The term fur coat and no knickers springs to mind.

Probably because it's surely the only way you could wear it in august.

Fur isn't a statement piece anymore either, not a cool one anyway. IME the tiny minority of people who still wear fur are deliberately trying to be provocative, so I'd say the reactions you are getting are exactly the ones you want, so why are you whinging about it?

I gave my grans 4 full length mink fur coats to our local animal rescue 😊

People will know its real from the distinct smell, real fur absoloutly stinks of damp because unlike leather etc... its got no waterproof quality so just gets foisty, sweaty (especially if you wear it in summer) and mildewy.

You have a right to wear it. Other people have a right to say what they think about it. I doubt very much that anyone is jealous of it.
