Why do people hate on my fur coat

I’ve a fur coat that I inherited from my Grandmother. It’s a full length mink coat & I absolutely love it. I even wear it in summer.
As we’ve been having terrible weather I’ve been using it, and for the first time people are hating on me for wearing fur. They throw insults that I’m an animal killer, cruel, support the fur industry- on and on it goes.
I think it’s just jealousy. Others would love to own such a statement piece.
Are they all wrong and I’m right, I have a right to wear what I want, I didn’t kill anything & the coat comes from another era. Actually I’m saving it from landfill.

I'd imagine it's wet inside from sweat and wet outside from rain. So will definitely have an interesting smell to it!

Mink are not “fluffy” or “nice”… they are vicious predators and cause a real problem when they escape from mink farms. (Mink farms are horrible anyway, these days I think they’re mostly situated in Eastern Europe or Russia )

I would judge you. You’re perpetuating the ‘fur is luxury and fashionable’ stance - even if it is ‘vintage’.
I wouldn’t have ivory objects for the same reason - not that I could because they are banned now old and new, in recognition of the fact that even ‘old’ ivory is wrong.

wearing it in summer? Have a day off, OP. No-one is jealous.

Would they be happier if you binned your inherited coat and bought a polyester, piece of tat coat? That'd really help animals and the environment!

People are hypocritical when it comes to animal rights. There’s a reason why rabbits are used in posters of animal testing (they are fluffy with big eyes ) where as those same people often wear leather or eat meat without a second thought.

The cartoon representation of your coat is draping a corpse on your shoulders when fur isn’t massively different to a leather jacket or shoes. The hypocritical people that I spoke about a few sentences up see you like that rather than wearing something exclusive and special like you think.

"Hate on" is such a ridiculous expression btw. Just hate, or object to, is fine.

I think this is an extremely odd thing for you to think - you can't be unaware that people have ethical objections to fur? You can't think the whole of PETA is actually just people who really want a fur coat and are therefore jealous.

You said you are right they are wrong so why are you asking?

as passed down i would keep . But i wouldnt wear in public . A statement piece ???
what happened in the past was wrong . we can learn from it but you cant expect to wear dead animals that were just killed for their fur and expect no reaction ?

im not vegan but i come from a farming background and killing animals just to wear them seems vulgar .
that is just my opinion, can you imagine how many were killed just to make it ?

I'm not anti or for fur but I do question people who go to protests around fur while eating meat and wearing leather shoes

I just had a look and you can buy a vintage mink coat for €50 or nearest offer or a silver fox fur coat for €75 if you are that way inclined, surely if people were jealous they would just buy their own. It's hardly a luxury item out of most people's grasp.

I was given a parka that has real fur lining and fur trimmed hood.
I haven’t worn it for years because winters have been too mild for it. You’re getting comments because you’re wearing it in July, you are literally being a massive melt.

I think Pedants’ Corner should start a campaign to eradicate the use of expressions like ‘hate on’.
(and perhaps phrases with other superfluous prepositions too.)

i was also shocked by this .
My daughter complained that a charity shop was selling one , she actually put it on the charities twitter feed .
It was removed . people are disgusted not envious
