I was a little bit shocked to see them gathering round him putting themselves in the line of fire like that. Would that happen in this country? Never seen anything like it before and not sure how I feel about it.

Double bill with In the Line of Fire Clint Eastwood

Imicola · 14/07/2024 20:05

Close protection, it's totally standard. In my recent safety training they talked a bit about what would happen if you were in a situation with close protection (this was focused on overseas work, not UK, but the principle is the same). And yes they basically aim to get the person they are protecting out of harms way by whatever means necessary.

Have you never seen the film the bodyguard?!

No, nor the TV series. Adding them to my watch list!

Here’s a pic…Weird bulge, weird clenched fake hand…

So not such broad shoulders irl? It looks so weird when you know it. Would they not be in the way/being heavy if something happened..!?

It's how they protect their target, though I was just thinking what a terrible job they did, didn't cover him well at all. Someone could've quite easily got in a few more shots while he was doing his little victory first pumps, shoddy bodyguarding!

Yes, and the female bodyguard was quite short so she didn’t cover his head. But she protected his body.

I'm glad it's not just me that thought that! Surely it's important to have bodyguards that are tall enough to actually protect the VIP's head? Especially in this situation where a head shot is most likely.

Ivehearditbothways · 14/07/2024 20:15

Where you trying to make this a trump bashing thread? About how he expects the lowly staff to die for him? Because this is, I think, the only thing he cannot be criticised for. It’s the exact same for anyone who hires bodyguards or works in government, in any country, and is given protection officers. When there is a threat, they surround and out their bodies between their client and harm. This has nothing to do with Trump, and would have been the same for anyone else.

It felt bad saying it but it’s the first thing I thought. Trump was all covered apart from where she was which was at the front from where he was shooting. So the only gap his head and throat was completely visible.

boxwithacat · 14/07/2024 20:24

You could see the obvious gap better from a distance.

The Regan assassination attempt footage kept popping up today. They looked more organised than Trumps Protection team did 😕.

You should stream Bodyguard with Kevin Costner & Whitney Houston tonight OP 😄

Add to that..

  • In The Line of Fire, Clint Eastwood
  • The Sentinel, Keifer Sutherland and Michael Douglas
  • Guarding Tess, Nicholas Cage and Shirley MacLaine
misssunshine4040 · 14/07/2024 20:35

Watch the clip of King Charles assassination attempt in Sydney in the 80's where his bodyguard jumped in front of him.

Im sorry but I don't believe anyone is naive enough to think that bodyguards are there to risk their lives.

What do you think the armed forces do?

I can’t imagine my 20-year old buying a rifle just because he can. It’s so wrong and so sick. Sick country to allow this to happen. But no doubt Trump fans will use this as an excuse to buy even more weapons. It’s way too late for them to stop the craziness.

Regan was more badly injured, so didn't really have much of a choice. Although I think he'd have been keener to follow the Secret Service instructions than the TSG.

Trump looked for the photo op once it was confirmed that the shooter was dead. You can see there was a slight delay as they readied to move him off, and he made the most of it to stand up for the cameras.

FannyFifer · 14/07/2024 18:45

Yes, it would be the same here, it's literally their job to potentially take a bullet to protect the person they are guarding.

Didn't Princess Anne's bodyguard take one for her once?

Overtheatlantic · 14/07/2024 20:42

They were protecting his body but he put his head up. Idiot:

helpfulperson · 14/07/2024 20:47

I was surprised by how many of them were women. There was the obvious women in front of him but when they get him into the car you can see at least four, possibly more of them were.

maddiemookins16mum · 14/07/2024 20:52

The clue is in the name - Body Guard (and they have vests on).

DobbyTheHouseElk · 14/07/2024 20:57

I did think they did really well to cover him, he kept popping up to make sure everyone could see him. Daft Don.

JanglyBeads · 14/07/2024 21:00

He took three.

ColinMyWifeBridgerton · 14/07/2024 21:14

It's a good thing bodyguards exist. They protect democracy. Otherwise it would be much too easy to go around killing candidates.
