Trump’s human sheilds

I was a little bit shocked to see them gathering round him putting themselves in the line of fire like that. Would that happen in this country? Never seen anything like it before and not sure how I feel about it.

I suspect that post is to try to invite comments like echobelly and EsmaCannonball on protecting Trump. People go great lengths to make sure they carry on insulting and vilifying him. It is disgraceful and says more about people commenting like this than anything else.

Edited

I don’t like Trump, but in no way have I used this thread to criticise him personally.

Honestly I am quite taken aback by the venom in some of the replies here. I’m assuming most of mumsnet don’t employ their own bodyguards or make their living as one, I’m surprised by the level of defensiveness and scorn about what I consider to be an interesting topic of discussion. But whatever.

Also the tittle of the post, very obvious.

I say you wherever. May be ask for the post to be deleted if you are not happy the pile on about Trump did not happened.

No thank you, I am quite happy to let the thread stand.

Yes, and the female bodyguard was quite short so she didn’t cover his head. But she protected his body.

Yes, and even at one point was putting her hand up to try and protect his head.

Trump is tall isn’t he, over 6ft. I imagine he’s taller than quite a few of the male protection officers. I felt sorry for them because they’re trying to cover him and get him off stage and he’s wanting to do fist pumps and shout at the crowd. He wasn’t exactly cooperating with them which must be frustrating. I know they had heard that the shooter was down but I’m sure the officers were concerned about a second shooter possibility. They’re risking their lives and Trump is increasing that risk at that point.

GRex · 15/07/2024 07:04

Just wait until you hear what a firefighter does OP.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 15/07/2024 07:09

What was happening with Trumps shoes? I missed something.

AmelieTaylor · 15/07/2024 07:11

Lellochip · 14/07/2024 19:06

It's how they protect their target, though I was just thinking what a terrible job they did, didn't cover him well at all. Someone could've quite easily got in a few more shots while he was doing his little victory first pumps, shoddy bodyguarding!

@Lellochip

dont blame them, he was behaving like the idiot he is.

1clavdivs · 15/07/2024 07:12

DP is a bodyguard and yes he'd protect the principal. He does have bullet proof vests if it's high risk.

They got knocked off in the drama and he refused to leave until he’d put them back on.

AmelieTaylor · 15/07/2024 07:14

EsmaCannonball · 15/07/2024 00:45

Imagine having to risk your life to protect someone who thinks it is worth less than his shoes and a photo op.

@EsmaCannonball
i cannot stand the bloke & all his 'fight fight fight' & fist waving was his usual bollocks, but the shoes was a pretty standard 'in shock' response.

i wouldn't incur a broken fingernail to protect him, let alone my life.

I think he didn't want to risk there being a photograph of him in his socks. He didn't want to look weak. That was his first priority. Bugger everyone else.

I understand where you're coming from OP, as in their lives are no less valuable than his. That has nothing to do with not being a Trump fan, you could say that about anyone. I find it a strange concept too. On the other hand, they know what the job entails and are prepared to do it.

@RandomUsernameHere

i would NOT do it for trump, no matter the money.

i was trying to think who I would do it for and couldn't come up with anyone.

(obviously for 'some' family/friends, but not as a 'job')

the only person I can think of where I'd even think about it as a job would have been The Queen 20 years ago when she had a lot more life to live & I was younger & fitter! But even then it's 'think about it' not definite!!

dottiehens · 15/07/2024 07:51

Nah this poster has called Trump nasty things in other posts. It is definitely being goady. It must be a bitch to realised he may win the elections after this. Not matter how much shit is stirred it would not make a difference.
May be just go out and enjoy the summer a bit.

LunaTheCat · 15/07/2024 07:58

I just think it’s hilarious they call them “the secret service “… there is nothing secret about them in their b
ack identical suits. They may have been more effective blending in a bit.
Bill Clinton came to our small city once.. it was crawling with men in black suits and sunglasses for 2 weeks prior to his 6 hour visit.

Remember that protecting the President, etc. is not the only job that the USSS does. And the ones you see are the ones they want you to see.

Called him “nasty things”? I think he’s deranged and a danger to democracy!
I am however capable of multiple trains of thought unlike some people, and this thread is about the role of his bodyguards. Go wave your maga flag somewhere relevant.

I was more surprised they didn't have bullet proof shields they could whip up for protection - I've seen security carry brief case like things that open into shields.

He'd just been shot and wounded. For once in my life I'm prepared to cut him some slack.

It's not as if he had any military experience. And he's got terrible problems with his feet apparently so maybe he has special shoes. (Oh dear, I seem to have run out of slack to cut him)

User364837 · 14/07/2024 18:46

Might they be wearing bullet proof vests?

Yes, I would imagine so.

I also think their families would be compensated hugely in the event of their death.

Haveyougotallnight · 15/07/2024 10:29

I suspect there will be a huge overhaul of the whole procedure now. I think the security detail did the best they could trying to get the great lumox off the stage 😖. Not having security on the roof opposite was unforgivable though.

Curlygirl06 · 15/07/2024 10:58

They would be extremely thin bullet proof vests if they were wearing them? I've actually got experience of bullet proof (army) vests and they're bloody heavy and bulky!
To be fair that was some time ago so has the technology moved on so that they are now really thin and easier to move in? Genuine question.

Gingerdancedbackwards · 15/07/2024 10:59

That literally is their job, and the job of protection officers worldwide

Gingerdancedbackwards · 15/07/2024 11:00

Totoe · 14/07/2024 18:42

Yes I do get that. Do we have the equivalent here? Would our bodyguards act the same? I suppose I’m surprised they didn't have bullet proof vests on like the police/army do.

Edited

They wear them under their suits

Lellochip · 15/07/2024 11:04

Sillystrumpet · 14/07/2024 19:11

The shooter was killed immediately by return fire. They did cover him, and fast, if you watch the videos it’s seconds of time. They are humans not robots.

They are humans yes, with one job - keep this one person safe. They'd already missed one shooter in plain sight, you never assume there isn't a second. If they were doing their jobs properly we shouldn't have seen sight of Trump from the second he first ducked. Their job in these situations is to cover and extract him.

Aria999 · 17/07/2024 04:33

And yet apparently they weren't deployed on the roof in question because sloping roofs are a safety hazard 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ says their boss on tv tonight 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️
