WTF is it with people and “cuddling” new born babies.

I’ll start by saying most people annoy me. People in general are annoying. I know I sound so welcoming 😂

But honestly, what is it with family wanting cuddles with the baby. Seriously, Fu*k off. I’ve just squeezed a melon out, my boobs are leaking, I can hardly sit down and let’s not even start on when I need a poo! But at least I now get to hold and feed my baby. Oh wait visitor number 746764 wants to “cuddle” or feed her. Firstly, it’s not cuddling your holding her and secondly go home while I enjoy my baby for a bit.

Seriously, hoisting people is a chore normally but when you’ve just had a baby. Give me a break. Go cuddle a dog or something and leave us the F alone.

And no, I don’t think having to converse with other people, while sleep deprived is needed. As “family just want a cuddle” I want some piece and to relax. You’re going home to a good night sleep I’m on feed 765. Don’t even get me started on family who think they know best when baby cries and won’t give her back.

I loved having people over and was happy to let them have a cuddle. But 1) I didn't need to do any hosting because DH was there and he's a normal.human being not a massive wanker as so many of them seem to be so he took care of all hosting and 2) none of my friends or family are wankers who wanted to keep a crying baby from its next feed.

So on those two points you have my sympathy. For all the rest of it YABU

Ohiwish12 · 13/07/2024 20:55

Why are you hosting them if you don't want to. You can say no to visitors and just be in a newborn bubble if you really wanted to?

WindsurfingDreams · 13/07/2024 20:56

There's a happy medium..

But there's something special about being an auntie (or whatever) to babies you have known and cuddled since birth.

And what really pissed me off was people wanting cuddles with mine but then getting all precious when they had their own babies.

BowlOfNoodles · 13/07/2024 20:57

Think yourself lucky that you have living family/,friends who care for you and your baby... rude and ungrateful there's people with nobody giving a fuck about them or offering them a helping hand.

SallyWD · 13/07/2024 20:57

We're all different. I absolutely loved it when people cuddled my newborns. First of all it was so lovely to see granny or aunty (or whoever) so in love with the baby. Secondly, it gave me a bloody break!!

Suzieandthemonkeyfeet · 13/07/2024 20:57

OP will 100% be posting in about 2 years saying ‘ no one bothers with my dc, no one helps me, why won’t my mil baby sit’

😂

ElsaLion · 13/07/2024 20:57

YABVU - others are entitled to share in your happiness, and holding your newborn is the most beautiful way to show that.

Sadly, the attraction soon wears off, and people lose interest. You may soon regret missing about them or referring to them as 'Karen's'.

thatstakingalongtimetoboil · 13/07/2024 20:58

Didn't get further than Karen. And for that..... your arnt the first woman in the world to give birth it's pretty standard.

Cryingout1994 · 13/07/2024 20:58

People can't win with new parents these days and I say this as a mum of 3 with an 18month old myself, it's either ohh everyone's so annoying they won't leave us alone, or it's ohh nobody's bothering with us, my baby won't know who you are your loss. Like seriously what do you want?

I think you just want a bit of attention to be honest. Oh woe is me. If you don't want visitors say you're not up to it yet it's not rocket science, you don't have to let people into your home but you don't have to be horrible about it either. Your not the first woman to ever give birth, get over yourself

I loved having visitors as long as I didn't have to look after them! Congrats on your new arrival.

Same, perfect time for a nap for me until the next feed. Cuddle away!

Martha877 · 13/07/2024 20:58

Just waiting for the thread in twelve months time where Op is wondering why none of her family want to help with childcare.

twentysevendresses · 13/07/2024 20:59

Wow! 😮

Justcallmebebes · 13/07/2024 20:59

You ought to be grateful people care enough. Using you word Karen also shows us who you are. Not nice

These responses are a stark contrast to the usual 'your baby, your rules' answers on mumsnet.

purplepeopleeater28 · 13/07/2024 20:59

I felt this way with my first. My 2nd/3rd totally different 😂

Icanttakethisanymore · 13/07/2024 20:59

I’ve had two newborns and would gladly hand them over to anyone who asked, safe in the knowledge that I’d not be short of time holding them, given you can’t put the fuckers down, ever, unless you like listening to babies scream, which I don’t.

personally I never understand why people don’t like their friends and relatives wanting to do a shift. I loved it.

Probably because OP came on here with a raging attitude problem, the same energy has been reciprocated

"Karen" - you lost any moral high ground with that misogynistic crap I'm afraid.

Yep and me!

C0untBinFace · 13/07/2024 21:01

it’s been like that in my family for generations

BrendaSmall · 13/07/2024 21:01

The day my daughter came out of hospital last time she came straight to my house 🤣 This time she said she’s leaving hospital, going home to collect her 18 month old and coming here too 🤣
Lots of baby of cuddles for Nanny!

Yeah the aggressive tone rudeness doesn't allow for sympathy

CoffeeNeededorWine · 13/07/2024 20:55

😂😂😂😂😂 I know you’re comment is a jibe at me but some people have actually said “I’ll eat her with a knife and fork.” This has made me laugh so, so much!

It genuinely wasn't a jibe. Dingos don't go round holding babies and they do eat them so there is your proof.

OhHelloMiss · 13/07/2024 21:01

WinterMorn · 13/07/2024 20:53

What a horrible, unpleasant post.

Seconded!

CoffeeNeededorWine · 13/07/2024 21:01

I am 100% an introvert. As already said I’m clearly not a delight to be around and probably will live to regret not wanting visitors.

I am howling at the Karen comments though! My MIL is called Karen and she’s driving me bat shit! I hold the baby wrong, I feed her wrong, I burp her wrong. If one more person tells me I’m doing something wrong when I’m this sleep deprived I might loose it!
