Wearing a skimpy bikini around teenage son

I'm late 40's and have recently lost alot of weight. I have treated myself to some new bikinis for an upcoming beach holiday and some are thong styles. I did originally buy the thong ones for when me and DH go away later in the year alone. But every holiday I go on abroad there is so many people younger and older than me showing all their bums! When I was a teen it was rare, but not anymore. Just not sure I'm brave enough or if it would be a massive no with adult/teen children! Wwyd?

@Westfacing

I've been to Spain this year and last. I can confirm the thong wearers were male and female. Teens to pensioners and beyond.

No one bats an eyelid apart from the gasping pearl clutchers rocking in the corner on MN.

They dress it up as 'I don't want to see arse', what they really mean is 'I dont want my partner or husband looking at a pert arse in a thong because I feel insecure.'

It's hilarious.

Not at all. I could easily wear one but they look trashy and so I would not wear one, particularly in front of my teenage son or daughter. Stylish costumes that cover a bit more look far more sexy and classy. No ‘pearl clutching’ here!

This thread is making me want to go out and get a super skimpy bikini 😂

For every skimpy bikini looking trashy there is a full cut one looking matronly 🤷🏻‍♀️

My kids aren't teens yet but if my mum wore a thong bikini on hols as a teen I would have been embarrassed. Same if she went topless even though many people were.
Not to say it is unreasonable by the way. I'm very much wear what you want but from a teens perspective...

Castlerock44 · 12/07/2024 15:11

I really don't understand why any one would want to wear one. It can't be for comfort so its got to be about wanting people to look at you. I just wonder if the people who wear them think they look sexy, far from it.

I'm Canadian and we see a lot of thongs on our beaches, I don't think anyone looks at a thong any more than they look at other swimsuits. If you are comfortable wearing a skimpy bikini go for it, it doesn't matter your size. Plus maybe they just want to get fewer tanlines. You will also occasionally see topless women here as there is no law to prevent it.
Maybe some people wear them to have people look, I would think they are in the minority.

Just because you've conditioned your kids not to object to your naked body doesn't mean those who haven't done that have done things wrong nor does it mean that every parent should just do what they are comfortable with with no consideration of their kids.

And nearly every single adult who was brought up in family nudity says it was embarrassing and they weren't half as comfortable as their parents like to think they were and avoided bringing friends to their house.

Murica · 13/07/2024 01:32

Why are fewer tan lines important? Who's going to see them? Will your significant other judge you if your butt isn't all tanned? If your partner is a man, I assume he's got tan lines on his ass. Women who are worried about tan lines should insist the men in their lives stop subjecting them to their white bottoms. Thongs for everyone!

Well yes, I've really noticed this recently. Was at a play park with my kids and noticed that all the boys were wearing loose, comfortable, practical clothes. All the girls but one were wearing tight leggins, and even those highly sexually leggins with the stitch up the arse crack to show off each arse cheek.

And I thought, hang on, why, even at these very young ages are the boys in comfy loose cool clothes and the girls in tight shape revealing clothes?

Same in running. I started running and bought leggins and then noticed, hang on, this is really hot and uncomfortable to run in - it holds heat in, doesn't let air circulate, holds in the wet and cold when it rains. This is crap. And then I noticed that men aren't wearing tight lycra to run in. They are wearing loose, comfortable, practical clothes. But women are much more likely to be running in this uncomfortable, tight impractical clothing.

Its all a bit rubbish.

I once posted about how even women's running trousers were tight, etc and I got a right telling off. One sneered at me that I'm not a runner then? FYI still running more than four years after I started.

But..but..didn't you say we should all be relaxed about our bodies? And comfortable with our choices...? And wear what we want? Because you're just minding your own business enjoying the beach, you're not judging other women's appearance in their swimwear at all. Did you forget for a minute?

I have no idea. It's one of those things that has totally bypassed me in life

Whatdoyouneedsonia32789 · 13/07/2024 10:37

I think I must be odd because I don’t think that they look very flattering from the front on most people, never mind the back, as they are usually very high cut by definition, and I think that emphasises thigh width. But that’s just a personal opinion!

Op, to get back to your question, I’m probably old-fashioned, but given that teens are embarrassed by their parents at the drop of a hat, I would keep them for the holiday with your dh.

I guess the same reason I and many people get naked and fake tan every inch. I just look nearer to myself. I don't like looking patchy when I see myself in the mirror 🤷🏻‍♀️
I just feel nicer

Wow we have an academic in the topic. Please, do share this study. I'd love to see the results of the survey into 'nearly every single adult^^ who was brought up in family nudity'

I feel matronly in a massive bikini bottom. Is that ok with you?

Of course. But you weren't talking about yourself, you were talking about other women after clearly noticing and judging their swimsuits, and I thought from your previous posts that sort of thing wasn't OK with you.

No you were talking about other women and judging them.
I said for every trashy pair there is a matronly pair.
I didn't say anything about anyone else wearing any of them

Personally I most favour a skimpy but not thong bikini bottom. I generally find smaller pants more flattering and butt enhancing over full coverage.
I find in a bigger fuller coverage bikini bottom my arse just looks wider and more expansive. The bigger piece of fabric just makes my butt look wider and less the way I want it to look

In a smaller pair the width is split up and I find it makes my buttocks look rounder.
I obviously can't find exactly the same picture with two different pants on but the photos below show what I mean. Both are slim models with lovely figures.
I personally feel the full coverage just makes butts look bigger as there is a big expanse of material. So I prefer to wear the small style.

How would those look on men, do you think?

🤷🏻‍♀️ I haven't said anything about other people. You really really thought you'd caught me out and seem to be slightly seething. But hey. I didn't. I don't care what you or others look like on the beach. I just want to feel happy with how I look.

Murica · 13/07/2024 14:18

Maybe once or twice. Not nearly as often as I see women wearing them. The men they're with are usually covered from waist to knee.

I'm starting to think you're responding to another set of comments that exist entirely in your head. Not once have I said a word of judgement about what women choose to wear on the beach. Nor have I given the slightest indication of being even slightly perturbed, never mind 'seething'. You seem a little bit cross though about me pointing out you called other women's choices 'matronly' after pretending you didn't notice or judge, so we will agree to disagree. I don't care what others look like on the beach either, so we can agree on that at least.

crashgirl1 · 13/07/2024 18:23

I would, I've been going topless and wearing thongs since mine were babies , they've grown up with seeing me half naked and they're not bothered. I'm not embaressed and neither are they. Your proud of your new body so show it off x
