Wearing a skimpy bikini around teenage son

I'm late 40's and have recently lost alot of weight. I have treated myself to some new bikinis for an upcoming beach holiday and some are thong styles. I did originally buy the thong ones for when me and DH go away later in the year alone. But every holiday I go on abroad there is so many people younger and older than me showing all their bums! When I was a teen it was rare, but not anymore. Just not sure I'm brave enough or if it would be a massive no with adult/teen children! Wwyd?

You said you don't want to sit on a chair where someone's arse has been if they've worn a thong. But you'll happily sit on a toilet seat, where people are NAKED, all fine. Whether it's 'made' for bare arses or not, there are no rules and regulations to say smaller bikini wearers can't sit on chairs.

So why, from a hygiene stance, are you okay with sitting on a toilet seat, but not sharing a chair when someone would be wearing underwear?

And to PP who said they put toilet roll on the seat before hand. Have you seen how thin bogroll is in public toilets? That ain't doing shit, sorry to tell you.

I live in a what i have heard be called a naked family. Saw my mum naked loads when I was a kid and my children the same with me. My son doesn't care if I'm in bra and pants rushing round in morning. Just a bit ah for god sakes mum.
I think it depends on the type of household you live in.
if you are in a less body confident or a non naked household they would be more shocked and embarrassed to see you in little clothing if it isn't something they are used to.
We shouldn't be ashamed of our bodies. Everyone has one we are all different.
I have worn a thong bikini he doesn't bat an eye lid and couldn't care less. I think he would cringe if he saw my mum (his nan) in one though 🤣

As I said upthread, I saw my first thong on a beach at 16. I’d have looked amazing in a thong at that age, but I didn’t like the style. My DD (19) would look amazing in one now, but she hasn’t bought one, she prefers regular bikinis. 🤷

There should be a beach or swimming pool specifically for thong wearers. Large or small bums, they do not look good, one woman bent over in front of me and I was treated to her exposed bum hole, it was not a pleasant sight.

My kids last year in Rhodes kept asking why young girls in their teens (and many women) had their bums out wearing these. I’m one of those who feels you should wear what you like if it makes you feel happy but even I was cringing when I accidentally copped eyes on the undercarriage of a meer 15 year old who was bending down to straighten a towel right in front of us. I didn’t think it was appropriate and my sons are 13 and 9 who didn’t have a clue where to look. My kids have seen a lot of me and my DH over the years been on many holidays and we aren’t prudes but this crossed a line for me as a mum because it made my kids and DH feel uncomfortable. Yes wear these things if you want to but I don’t want my family seeing your arses and flaps every time you bend over.

Unfortunately they are the norm in Australia

I wondered how many have thought about how hilarious it is that people buy skimpy stuff for big ££. Makes a lot of money. Little raw material, less to see, more profits. And people running around thinking they’re so sexy. 😂

Recently back from a sunny holiday. I don't think it looks nice on anyone in public. Lots of girls walking through hotel reception in a thong, or coming down for breakfast in a thong with a see through thing over the top. It wouldn't be so bad for sunbathing, but walking around...I don't think it's nice... just go to a naturist resort and take everything off. I also personally think late 40's is a bit old to be wearing what the teens and twenty somethings are wearing.

Well done for you for making healthy choices and getting fit. My understanding of a thong is that it is bigger at the back than a string bikini and tbh on some people they look fab . Maybe buy a bigger bottom pit of kindness to teenagers but keep the thong for when they are not about and feel proud of how you have prioritised your health - cracking example for your children.

Just back from Crete and there were probably 20% thongs on the beach, but only for teenagers or 20-somethings. Still not a great or very hygienic look in my opinion - and a definite no when you have teens - but I agree they seem popular. But really only for the kids......

I personally hate seeing unnecessary flesh unless it's very smooth and youthful. Middle aged man in see through white speedos at the water park last year - gross!!

For me it's not an 'age' problem- anyone of any age can look great if they take care of themselves and know how to dress for their body. i'm sure you look gorgeous and could rock a thong bikini as well as any Love Islander!

It's more of a 'you have teenage kids' thing. If you were childfree and off for a holiday with your DH, then I'd say wear what you like. By all means wear the thongs when you go away with your husband sans teenagers later in the year.

But because you have teens my advice is to be mindful. Kids that age are mortified by your mere existence, let alone your bare bum on show. Your son might do the teenage 'I'm not with you, I'm going to sit 100 metres away so you can't shame me' and ruin the holiday vibes.(But sometimes teens do that anayway!)

A good compromise might be Brazilian-cut bottoms if you still want to show some skin- they are a little sexy and show some cheek but not the full shebang. And IMO they are far more flattering on most people.And forgiving if you need to bend down

And congrats on your weight loss- it's a slog but you've stuck to it and you deserve to feel good in your hard-won body.
