Wearing a skimpy bikini around teenage son

Behappyandbehave · 09/07/2024 22:25

I'm late 40's and have recently lost alot of weight. I have treated myself to some new bikinis for an upcoming beach holiday and some are thong styles. I did originally buy the thong ones for when me and DH go away later in the year alone. But every holiday I go on abroad there is so many people younger and older than me showing all their bums! When I was a teen it was rare, but not anymore. Just not sure I'm brave enough or if it would be a massive no with adult/teen children! Wwyd?

What about the mums commenting, who haven’t got teenage kids? Are they ok?🙄

I didn't comment on anyone being 'ok'. I said 'relevant'. The OP asked a question. The question was not do men like thong bikinis, was it? Therefore the male posters opinion is irrelevant. Someone suggested it was sexism to say the man's opinion wasn't relevant. I'm pointing out that it isn't, on this thread, its an objective fact.

So all the women saying that nobody wants to see a woman in a thong and that no woman over 40 has a decent body and that no one should wear a thong can stay but the man who says you wear that thong if you want to, they look great can’t join the conversation?

I've expressed no opinion at all on who should 'stay'. However, the male posters opinion on how good he thinks thongs look is irrelevant to the OPs question. The other person's opinion that they themselves looked great in a thong at a beach party is also irrelevant to the OPs question. The people being gratuitously ageist and spiteful about other women's appearance are offensive. The people calling women who don't like thongs prudish pearl clutches are also offensive. Think that covers it. Apologies if I've missed anyone out.

@5128gap Well said as always 👏🏼

You say they don't look good on anyone, how do you explain the huge sales of thongs then?

The millions of videos online and photos of women in thongs.

The multitude of women who sell and make huge amounts of money on onlyfans, wearing thongs.

Thongs can absolutely amazing on some women. You sound like you're projecting your own body issues now as you have such an issue with underwear and swim wear.

Who are you to judge someone on whether they look 'good enough' in a thong?

I'm guessing you're a size 8 oil painting yourself, since you're so judgemental on what other women put on or wear on their bodies.

I blame Sisqo. If only he'd released 'The Sturdy Full Coverage Bikini Brief Song' then we wouldn't be where we are today.

@Maria1979

I'd be surprised if haemorrhoids will be hanging down past one's arse cheeks. If they're hanging down that much, a brief shaped swim suit wouldn't be of much assistance.

I wish you were right. But...I have seen it for myself. A friend's mother who loves skimpy clothing.. sight that can not be unseen unfortunately.. and it does stick out!
"Haemorrhoids are veins inside and around your bottom that have become enlarged and swollen. They are also sometimes called 'piles' and are more common than you might think, affecting 3 out of 4 adults. Prolapsed haemorrhoids are those that are no longer contained within the bottom but push outwards and become exposed."

I'd bet the odds are excellent that your son would not want to see your arse crack being flossed by a bit of fabric. He'd probably rather scoop his eyeballs out.

You said this so much better than I would have 😆

Herecomestreble1 · 10/07/2024 19:33

I agree with you OP, though I still wouldn't wear one around my teenage son. Whilst they definitely are common and I'm sure you have the bum for it, the thong in of itself isn't the thing that would make my son uncomfortable, it would be glancing at his dad and seeing him check me out, so on that basis I would save it for your private holiday and maybe even do away with the bottoms altogether! 😉

However if you do still want a little less fabric than standard bottoms on your family trip, Brazilian cuts are a great alternative.

Okay, to address the OP's question.

OP, from what you say I think you should go for it if you feel tempted. Your DC's eyes will be elsewhere when you're on the beach.

letsgoooo · 10/07/2024 21:22

@DracoDormiensNumquamTittilandum

lol. Do you have a teen?!?
I have teen and two in their 20s. Boys and girl. They'd all be fine. They don't see me as somehow a different species to other women.

I wouldn't be twerking or weird arse angling poses. I'd be just doing what most people do in a bikini. Lying down reading. Walking to the pool. 🤷🏻‍♀️ my kids aren't weirded out by normal stuff

letsgoooo · 10/07/2024 21:23

@Yousaidwhatagain

Sorry op this. Basically walking around in underwear. With your kids around that's a big No.
Errr. ALL bikinis are like basically walking around in underwear 🤷🏻‍♀️

thatstakingalongtimetoboil · 10/07/2024 21:28

I really don't get why you want to wear it. I understand young girls but really when you're 40 and with dh and kids just why. I don't get it.

FeelingSoOverwhelmed · 11/07/2024 08:12

I have only skim read this but oh my days, British people are so uptight and I am very glad I wasn't brought up here!
Grew up in Spain, near the beach and was very used to seeing skimpy European swimwear worn by all ages and sizes. I can't imagine getting so worked up and angry about women's bodies 🤣🤣🤣
So weird.

Very nice to have a continental take on the uptight British, but did Spanish mothers wear thongs in the presence of their teenage sons?

That was the question the OP was asking.

Across the broad selection of European mums/sisters/grans in our hotel, beaches, and water park, we have been to. Yes, they do.

Yes they do. Like I said, we're less uptight than the majority of people on this thread 🤷‍♀️

ShallWeGoToTheFirepit · 11/07/2024 10:31

@Westfacing

I've been to Spain this year and last. I can confirm the thong wearers were male and female. Teens to pensioners and beyond.

No one bats an eyelid apart from the gasping pearl clutchers rocking in the corner on MN.

They dress it up as 'I don't want to see arse', what they really mean is 'I dont want my partner or husband looking at a pert arse in a thong because I feel insecure.'

It's hilarious.

Brilliantly put. 👏

Ah nice, men telling women that they feel insecure for standing up to porn culture.

Erm, I'm a 30 year old woman..

What have I said that stands up for porn culture?

CharlotteRumpling · 11/07/2024 10:56

Next, women who object to the lip filler trend are jealous because their husbands are looking at luscious lips. Can't be because we don't want our dds to not look like blow up dolls. Oh no, all women are either free spirited thong wearers or jealous wrinkled prudes. Nothing in between and no nuance.

CharlotteRumpling · 11/07/2024 10:57

Not you @ShallWeGoToTheFirepit I was talking abut @BristolBloke who is very keen to tell us what he prefers.

I wouldn't have given a shiny shite, whenever I was on a beach as a teenager my eyes were elsewhere.

You sound very bitter. Almost jealous, even. 🤔

I don't have a partner or husband, don't care about seeing arses myself but I respect it if my DS doesn't want to see mine!
