I'm late 40's and have recently lost alot of weight. I have treated myself to some new bikinis for an upcoming beach holiday and some are thong styles. I did originally buy the thong ones for when me and DH go away later in the year alone. But every holiday I go on abroad there is so many people younger and older than me showing all their bums! When I was a teen it was rare, but not anymore. Just not sure I'm brave enough or if it would be a massive no with adult/teen children! Wwyd?

I hope they do reconsider, if it is a thong they are planning to wear on a public beach or poolside ! This goes for anyone, any age, any size, male or female lol. I don't care who wears a normal bikini, they look fine on anyone as they cover the bum crack. I'd also prefer men didn't wear Speedo's. Like a thong they just don't leave enough to the imagination for my liking!

If the wearer was the one enjoying the sight of their own bum I’d understand it more but the sole purpose seems to be for other people’s (strangers mostly) gaze (or what’s the purpose of that specific style instead of a more traditional bikini bottom). I could say I’m an old fuddy duddy but I’d never have worn them even in my younger years when my figure was very good. I admit though I don’t ‘get’ them.

It's not embarrassing, another unnecessary shitty comment. You see all sorts of shapes and sizes on holiday wearing all types of swimwear . There is no age limit or weight limit I admire people that don't worry about what they look like.
I'd be the one covering up and worrying about my belly while someone with a belly twice as big be strolling around not caring , who looks more silly them or me ? Me! It's ridiculous but that's my insecurity.
OP should be able to wear what she likes, however I do agree preteen/ teen /adult children would likely hate mum wearing a thong bikini so yea save it for the hol with DH .

@Ottervision I just think they're private and some things should be left to the imagination. Anything related to the arse and genitals should be covered due to the many fluids that are produced 😂 Plus they are constantly sexualised and have been since the dawn of time, there's no getting away from that. The idea of my teenage sons chatting to me while I have my baps out is gross.
