MY 12 year old used my fabric scissors to open a bag of popcorn. Is there any point keeping them?

Or shall I just drop them off at the bus station with a tenner and tell them they need to make their own way in life from this point on?

Which do you want to get rid of ?
The child or the scissors ?

ButDoYouAvocado · 07/07/2024 22:02

Can’t you get them sharpened?

(And drop them off at the bus station)

TwattyMcFuckFace · 07/07/2024 22:02

A tenner?

That's very generous.

Iwouldlikesomecake · 07/07/2024 22:02

I was gonna say the child or the scissors? 🤣

RightOnTheEdge · 07/07/2024 22:03

Perhaps they'll run into my DH there (who put my good knives in the dishwasher and used my Tweezerman tweezers to do some petty DIY)...

eosmum · 07/07/2024 22:03

Sacrilege. Not a fabric scissors. I wouldn’t drop them off let them make their own way there. I’m thinking of you at this difficult time.

Kneeslikethese · 07/07/2024 22:04

Unforgivable.
Try Avada kedavra while waving a pointy stick at them.

CheeseWisely · 07/07/2024 22:05

Keep the tenner towards your new fabric scissors though.

Headabovetheparapets · 07/07/2024 22:05

Feeling your pain, my family daren't touch my fabric scissors🤣🤣

pastabest · 07/07/2024 22:06

This is why I have FABRIC ONLY written on mine just in case anyone manages to crack my secret hiding place for them (it's behind the ironing board so no chance of anyone else but me ACTUALLY finding them). I've Seen others use a combination lock to lock the handles together.

Was it a paper or plastic bag?

MumChp · 07/07/2024 22:07

Keep the scissors out of reach...

Did make me laugh 🤭

AppelationStation · 07/07/2024 22:08

My DH used my slate kitchen trivet to do soldering on today.

He's 38.

LauderSyme · 07/07/2024 22:08

My ds managed to find and use mine for cardboard 😱

I told him he'd have to hitch a ride to the bus station.

Do they sharpen children anymore?

Bluebirdover · 07/07/2024 22:08

Was the popcorn sweet or salted?

If sweet your actions are totally justified, if salted you should consider raising their pocket money for good behaviour.

Touchthetrigpoint · 07/07/2024 22:09

Crikey, that's a bit harsh OP.

At least give them the popcorn on their way out.

MumChp · 07/07/2024 22:07

Keep the scissors out of reach...

@MumChp

Are you actually serious?

if I kept them out of reach of 12 year old I'd have to get the step ladder out to get them myself 🤣🤣

@drop them off at the pier & tell them to go for a long walk!!

LostMySocks · 07/07/2024 22:10

If it was a plastic pack you might just be ok but wash first.
If they're a really good pair of scissors get yourself a padlock. Ideally a combination one so you can't loose the key. Most kids and DHs not patient enough to try to crack the code....

GHSP · 07/07/2024 22:10

I am thinking of opening a rehabilitation facility for such children, as I have three teenagers, one of whom used half a bottle of L’Occitane shower gel to wash his trainers, and another who used my anodised Swiss roll tin as an oven tray for chips.

MonkeyRum · 07/07/2024 22:11

When I was very small, I once took my mum’s fabric scissors and cut out (what I thought was very neatly.) all of her sewing patterns.

She wasn’t a happy lady!

ImPunbelievable · 07/07/2024 22:11

Am I the only one to at doesn't understand the problem?!

At least your husband knows the dishwasher exists...😕

wonderstuff · 07/07/2024 22:12

My teens destroyed my fabric scissors, despite repeated warnings kept using them for craft. They stopped cutting fabric. I was very, very cross. Bought some cheap replacements on Amazon which were rubbish (I get this wasn't the children's fault but it didn't help my mood). I feel your pain.
This is why they make children look cute, so you are better able to resist the urge to leave them at the bus stop.
