AIBU for loving this grim weather?

So far this has been a great summer for me. I cannot tolerate the heat, my favourite seasons being autumn and winter, so this rainy, chilly weather is right up my street.
I know it is selfish, but it's not as if I am controlling the weather.
Does anyone else feel similarly?

My oldest says they prefer it - they have real difficulty with any temperature above 'warm' so they are glad it's like this.

I don't love it but don't mind it too much, other than not being able to hang laundry out. People do still seem to act surprised when we have a summer like this and forget that long, hot dry ones are still very much the exception in this country.

Fizbosshoes · 07/07/2024 22:32

2 good things about the shit weather

  • its not too hot to run at any time of the day
  • I can sleep better

....but that withstanding I'd love more sun and even 20° would be nice.
Yesterday I went to an outdoor event, lasting the afternoon and evening. it was, at around mid day
11° and pelting down with rain as well as windy.
That really isn't enjoyable for an outdoor event.

I feel sorry for the farming community. There's sure to be a shortage of British grown food.

North Wales sheltered spots down to 1%C tonight 😮

Humid weather coming in next week and rain as well - awful mix.

On the bright side the midlands and the southern parts of the north west get lovely weather tomorrow.

Fizbosshoes · 07/07/2024 22:36

Whilst 30° + is relatively unusual for prolonged periods, single figure day time temps in June and July (with or without it pelting down with rain) isn't usual British summer time weather.

And there's a pretty big range between 12-14° ...which we've had for much of June and July so far,... and sweltering. I'd say late teens/ 20 is fairly usual and not exactly roasting!

GuessingGownaGoGo · 07/07/2024 22:42

Just a leetle bit cooler at night, say 8 - 10C, and it would be perfect 👌

Isitsixoclockalready · 07/07/2024 22:44

It's the worst time of year for me hay fever wise and it's better when it's like this but I'd take it for better weather. We get enough grim weather as it is and the last year has seen a ridiculous amount of rain so I'm hoping for some warmer, more settled weather before the summer is out.

ThisNoisyTealLurker · 07/07/2024 22:46

I’d be 100% with you if it wasn’t for the wet laundry slung all over my house that I can’t hang out!

It's winter where I live, and those are the temps we are having here - but with sunshine!! 🌞

And I'm desperate for summer to arrive.

I really don't understand these miserable people who just love greyness and rain, and can't abide a temperature over 20 degrees. Probably because I've never actually met one in real life.

I'd settle for grey and 20°, but not raining, right now, compared to about 11- 14° and pissing with rain.

I don't really get how lots think the only alternatives are like it is now.....or unbearably hot.
Like there's a scale - I don't even think we've got to "slightly warm" yet!!

Thisismyname33 · 07/07/2024 22:57

Yes I love it too! I dread the summer heat.

Caterguin · 07/07/2024 23:03

I don't want to dress for the rain. I will run in all weathers. I will happily go for cold, wet stompy walks.

But not in fucking July. Dd is meant to be dancing at all the summer carnivals, but they keep getting cancelled and she's gutted. Summer is so short and unpredictable as it is. But this isn't even a normal shit summer of cloud.

I love it too. Spring is usually my favourite season, but can't bear the heat. The last couple of summers I've been longing for autumn and winter ...

Growsomeballswoman · 11/07/2024 10:45

It was a lovely day yesterday but, I'm happier its a cool today. I find it much easier to do my walk in.

Wannabegreenfingers · 11/07/2024 10:56

Absolutely not. I'm miserable in the cold and wet. We have more than enough during the rest of year. I'll take 3 months of warm/hot sunshine please.

summeroccupation · 11/07/2024 11:23

My heating keeps coming on. I don't know how anyone can like this when it's summer!

LittleBitAlexisLaLaLaLaLa · 11/07/2024 11:31

YANBU to like what you like but personally I am a traditionalist who likes sunshine in July. Don’t mind this weather in October or whatever, but I really resent having to use my tumble dryer in the summer and wear my boots to work so I don’t get wet feet.

Projectme · 11/07/2024 11:37

Can't say I 'enjoy' the rain (I know it's good for the garden and wildlife though!) but am absolutely loving the cooler temperatures to previous summers and enjoying the blue skies and puffy white clouds!! 21 degrees here today and that is absolutely perfect!

Flaskfan · 11/07/2024 20:58

21 degrees would be amazing. It's not just cool here, it's proper cold. And wet. Always fucking wet. Put washing on the line in the morning in the hope it'll dry.... come home to wetter washing.

Same here. It's literally pissed it down again all fucking day today. From the minute I opened the curtains and still it continues. Not one would think it was summer if they could see how much flooding we currently have here. Sad

MedicalCannabis · 11/07/2024 21:06

It can't rain enough for me! Rainy days are the most peaceful, except for snowy ones...

And when accompanied by wind. Always the wind here. I like the occasional rain spell in summer, when you hear it pattering on the leaves. But when it's raining at the minute, my windows are all closed cos it's fucking freezing!

RivkaTheBold · 11/07/2024 23:11

I'm going to book a holiday if it carries on. It's depressing the fuck out of me.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 12/07/2024 09:29

I’ve been off work for a fortnight (teacher in Scotland) and it has averaged 15 degrees, rain pretty much every day. Yesterday was “13, feels like six” because of the wind according to my phone. I know moaning about the weather is stupid because there is nothing you can do, but it is making me actually sad now. We had flood warnings earlier in the week!

Growsomeballswoman · 12/07/2024 14:58

I've lit the woodburner🤣
