AIBU for loving this grim weather?

So far this has been a great summer for me. I cannot tolerate the heat, my favourite seasons being autumn and winter, so this rainy, chilly weather is right up my street.
I know it is selfish, but it's not as if I am controlling the weather.
Does anyone else feel similarly?

I think it’s utterly miserable and depressing. Yesterday there would have been so many weddings and events ruined because of the rain.

I want to wait in the playground in the sun, I want to drive with my windows open, I want to eat dinner in our lovely garden. I don’t want to be tumble drying the school uniforms in fucking JULY.

ThePeopleDemandMoreBenAndHolly · 07/07/2024 10:12

YANBU - I love it too!

SherbetSweeties · 07/07/2024 10:14

I don’t love torrential downpours no. It’s depressing. I love sunshine and warm evenings.

I know others have said the same, but i'm curious about why you love the cold and incredibly wet weather?

I understand people who enjoy Autumn and Winter because the temperatures are cooler, but since we haven't actually had more than a dozen days of slightly warm temperatures over the last year and a half i'm unsure as to what there is to love about consistently shit weather. Don't get me wrong I hate it being really hot, but surely even those who like cooler temperatures would actually prefer the days to also be dry? Confused

What grim weather? Lovely here in St Augustine 😁

I'm guiltily happy too. I know it's a huge problem for growing food and I do tolerate heat and sun and try not to moan too much for that reason but I am persoanlly far more comfortable with this than days on end of bright sun and the accompanying temperatures.

I'm in Kent though where it's not been too rainy. It's heavy today but we've had a decent amount of dry days already.

I like both dry and wet weather tbf. But I have a special love for a grey, wet day.

I love wearing boots not shoes (they're comfy). I love having a coffee and watching the rain from my window. If I do go out and get soaked, I love coming home and getting dried off, maybe having a bath, making some soup or a stew or doing some baking. I get hayfever really badly and find the rain makes it worse to begin with, then a bit better.

I like my garden getting a good watering.

I'm from Northern Ireland and now live in the SE England, so rainy summers make me nostalgic for home!

I hate summer clothes and look way better in autumnal things. I like sleeping with a big duvet and I love umbrellas.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 07/07/2024 10:22

13 degrees here, and the highest temp on my weather app is 15 until Friday. Schools broke up here last Friday (Scotland) and honestly, we just want a bit of warmer weather/not lashing rain. I love hot weather but right now I would settle for not having to wear a jumper or have the heating on.

itwontletmechoose · 07/07/2024 10:27

Yes YABU 😂 team sunshine here ☀️☀️☀️☀️🕶️

speakingofart · 07/07/2024 10:29

Nope, me too! I do feel sorry for the summer lovers but quite frankly I'd rather it stayed like it is now for ever than be 40 degrees again!

Dreamingofgoldfinchlane · 07/07/2024 10:29

I love summer rain and how everywhere looks so green and vibrant at the moment. Just beautiful.

ClockworkDisaster · 07/07/2024 10:33

I’m with you, OP - I’m very much enjoying this summer 😁

I hate the heat. I burn instantly and have to have factor 50 on all the time. I don’t like it when it gets above 18 really.

I appreciate this a personal question, but do you work?

Your wet days sound like you don't need to worry about getting through a day of work while trying to deal with a soaking wet coat, clothes that are sticking to your body in all the wrong places and a wet hair that leaves you wondering why you bothered to style it in the first place.

As for making stews and baking, that sounds idyllic. However, most of those posting are wondering how to dry the washing inside while dealing with small humans who are climbing the walls as they want to go out. Yes they can still play outside, but let's be honest even those who like playing in the rain are getting bored of jumping in puddles. Yes there are plenty of indoor options but after a year and half of shit wet weather many parents just can't afford to pay for another indoor activity, and were hoping for a few free days out in the sun.

I know I sound grumpy, but wet weather makes things so much harder. It's been relentless, and as lovely as your days sound, it's just not the reality for most posters.

Not a personal question at all! I work full time in an office (no wfh) and have two primary aged dcs. So I'm busy, but still love the rain ☔ ♥ 😄

Bloom15 · 07/07/2024 10:47

YABU

We already have wet and cool weather for 10 and a half months of the year. 6 weeks of sunny, warm and dry would definitely help my mood and my asthma

Birdingbear · 07/07/2024 10:52

Me! I'm like you. I can't tolerate the heat and favourite season is autumn and winter. I bypass summer activities and around now start planning and booking autumn activities and days out. All my holidays are to places that are in their winter season or not hot.
This has been a great summer!!

marshmallowfinder · 07/07/2024 10:52

I am so happy it's been fresh and comfortable. I cannot tolerate any heat and to have to work in it once it goes over 20 degrees fills me with absolute dread. Yanbu at all.

voiceofastar · 07/07/2024 10:53

YANBU, I've been thinking the same. It felt autumnal yesterday which was lovely. To be fair we haven't had a huge amount of rain though, I can understand why people are fed up of it.

summeroccupation · 07/07/2024 10:54

I wonder if you'll like it so much in the winter when food prices go up again because the farmers can't get the crops in.

Youcantellalotofthingsabouttheflowers · 07/07/2024 10:55

I absolutely love it!

Caterguin · 07/07/2024 10:57

I'm not sure where all these summers that people dislike so much actually are.

A normal summer in the nw isn't wall to wall sunshine or high temperatures. It's just generally a bit more sun than rain, with temperatures occasionally hitting 20 or so.

PollyPeachum · 07/07/2024 11:00

The intensity of bright sunlight is what I need to build my morale. Plus I am fed up with wearing the autumn clothes, I seem to have been in these outfits since September. I have some nice pastel dresses in light weight fabrics.
Gardening was poor, difficult getting plants to grow and slugs eat everything.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 07/07/2024 11:02

YANBU to be enjoying it but YWBU to not understand that it’s really hard for a lot of us and to tell us to put a puddle suit on or cosy up under a blanket!

Summer 2022 was rough for me, but I'm in the SE. It was consistently hot and had a few days in the 40s 🥵. That wasn't good for farming either, but tbh, there is not a lot we can do about the weather other than moan about it or enjoy it or adjust to it.

TheChosenTwo · 07/07/2024 11:03

Yanbu if this is what you like! As you say, it’s not like if enough people complain then you have the power to do anything about it 😂
I’m personally pissed off with it, hate it being wet and rainy and grey. I need sunshine in my life to ward off my blue moods.
We love being able to go on picnics in the evenings, or plan big bbqs at the weekend, or enjoy driving to the beach for an early morning paddle and back home before it gets really busy. All of this is out of the question when the weather is like this.
