AIBU for loving this grim weather?

So far this has been a great summer for me. I cannot tolerate the heat, my favourite seasons being autumn and winter, so this rainy, chilly weather is right up my street.
I know it is selfish, but it's not as if I am controlling the weather.
Does anyone else feel similarly?

I’m with you. Rain is annoying and can do one, but I really don’t tolerate heat well and hate it when it’s hotter than 21 degrees.
June is my least favourite month of the year, I cannot stand blaring sunshine at 4am and 9pm, I always sleep terribly. Autumn is my favourite season. I am obviously a fun sponge 😂

Growsomeballswoman · 07/07/2024 11:10

I love it too. 😀

GreenMarigold · 07/07/2024 11:16

I like sun and I like rain, but the changeable days with on-off showers are just annoying to plan for!

I don’t mind very hot days but much prefer cooler nights so I’m happy on that front.

My veg could do with a bit more warmth though! I have had the grand total of 2 strawberries this year.

Misthios · 07/07/2024 11:20

Most of MN love it. The same people who wax lyrical about hygge and cosy and hot choccie and snuggling on the sofa under a blankie and never having to leave the house and interact with people.

The weather is crap in the UK for usually 11 months of the year. They get plenty of their preferred shit weather. They love to pile into the threads where people are posting about SAD or struggling with the lack of light to twitter on about candles and fairy lights and snuggling. They similarly cannot cope with the very limited time of warmer weather and longer daylight.

Weirdoes.

xxSideshowAuntSallyxx · 07/07/2024 11:20

Ynbu but this is like the 5th thread on the weather. Couldn't you have added your love for the cold wet weather to one of the others?

Caterguin · 07/07/2024 11:27

I think I want to live in the parts of the UK that usually get good summers, so I can see what it's like to know you're going to get some nice weather.

Having said that, the first and last time we went to Cornwall instead of abroad about 10 years ago was very much like this summer: rain, cold, sun, warm, rain.

BrigadierEtienneGerard · 07/07/2024 11:36

With you OP every step of the way. Loving it here.

Ohyoudodoyou · 07/07/2024 11:50

I absolutely love this weather, I have no complaints but I do understand people hating it especially at outdoor events etc.

Cornettoninja · 07/07/2024 12:00

It’s been about six years since we moved into this house and I swear it’s the first summer the grass hasn’t depressingly died off!

I’m well suited to stereotypical UK weather, I love having distinct seasons and don’t like it when it’s too hot, more so as I’ve aged and developed health conditions. One side of my body literally stops functioning after the mid twenties, I’m not going to be seeking out heatwave holidays anywhere!

I’m not about to let the weather dictate my whole mood though. There are pros and pluses to most different kinds, even the weather that fucks me over doesn’t stop me finding things that do lift my spirit so I’m not moping around.

Sheknowsaboutme · 07/07/2024 12:16

Im with you! Just had leek and potato soup for lunch, watching Christmas in july on movies 24 and its chicken dinnner at 5:30.

if my stove would be in working order it would be lit, but its missing parts till Charnwood deliver.

it so wet my chicken is sitting in the utility!

See there's just no need for the insults. Though saying that, I take weirdo as a compliment 😂
Newsflash.. People like different things, and it's beautiful.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 07/07/2024 12:19

I quite like it too, OP. I'm not a fan or temperatures over about 22 or 23 degrees. And I like a chilly night for sleeping.

Peonies12 · 07/07/2024 12:22

Usually I would be wanting proper summer but I’m 7 months pregnant so actually quite pleased it’s cool…

I dislike the heat but I would like some more blue in the sky!

Same!

AllBlackEverything · 07/07/2024 12:29

My favourite seasons are autumn and winter, but I like the changeover from summer. I don't feel like it's the same without the contrast of a decent summer first.

Oh the irony

Snackpocket · 07/07/2024 12:33

Nope I hate it. I feel the cold very easily and we already have the majority of the year where it’s cold, grey and damp. A couple of months of not feeling cold and getting some sun on my skin really boosts me both physically and mentally. This summer is crap and is ruining the long lighter days when you should be able to spend time outside without a waterproof coat on.

SoupDragon · 07/07/2024 12:35

You get shit weather for about 75% of the rest of the year. Enjoy that instead.

This is utter shit. I'm so fed up with it and it's making me really low. I'm not sure how I will get through the shit 75% of the year without a good summer behind me.

voiceofastar · 07/07/2024 12:36

ThePeopleDemandMoreBenAndHolly · 07/07/2024 11:02

Summer 2022 was rough for me, but I'm in the SE. It was consistently hot and had a few days in the 40s 🥵. That wasn't good for farming either, but tbh, there is not a lot we can do about the weather other than moan about it or enjoy it or adjust to it.

I'm in the SE too and it was awful. My flat was 36C at one point, there was no escape. And it was weather like that that ruined the olive crops, which is why olive oil is so expensive now.

Ponoka7 · 07/07/2024 12:39

I like the temperature around 18 and it dry enough so my primary aged GC can enjoy the park/days out. A lot of the children were I live rely on the free outside stuff that is put on by charities and the council. My GC don't, but the youngest likes the park and it's only busy when the weathers dry. It's really annoying me because I lost weight to go on holiday in May and want to wear my holiday clothes here, because I'm hoping to lose more weight. It was sad reading about the flocks of lambs lost because of the weather. Like a pp I like it raining overnight/the odd day so everything grows. It benefits the birds and insects to get a bit of rain.

GetThatBloodyFaceOff · 07/07/2024 12:40

I like it, too. I dread the hot weather.

Crinklycrisp · 07/07/2024 12:41

YABU it's shit.

2dogsandabudgie · 07/07/2024 12:43

Well our local news last week was talking about how bad the wet weather has been for potatoes, so I don't want to hear anyone on here moaning about shortage of potatoes or prices going up! 😀

pigsDOfly · 07/07/2024 12:44

Don't like the extreme heat and tbh prefer Spring type weather but would love a bit of pleasant sunshine.

Yesterday when I walked the dog, between the showers of heavy rain and in a freezing wind, I wore the coat I usually wear to walk her in the winter - it's not particularly thick but I layer up underneath and it's fine unless the weather if really freeing. I had a light top on underneath the coat and was so cold I was actually shivering.

Don't mind the proper winter weather. At least I know that I have to wear jumpers and warm clothes. At the moment it's hard to know what to put on so you're comfortable because in the brief moments that the sun comes out it can actually suddenly get quite warm.

socks1107 · 07/07/2024 12:51

We are only half way through maybe August will be amazing?
I struggle in the real heat and the SE two years ago was horrible, but this is as equally horrible and grey and wet every day. I'm still wearing my tailored trousers to work and not my linen ones. Sandals have come out three times!
Im lucky I have a garden and a car and grown up children. For the families in flats ( as I once was with two little ones) you rely so much on those warm days and evenings in the park/seafront or pub garden sharing a bowl of chips.
People like my mum can't get out but she can use her garden, this year she's had the pleasure of the same four walls all year and no garden.
I don't dislike the cooler temps but this is something else and I have empathy for those that really want some warmer weather
