So far this has been a great summer for me. I cannot tolerate the heat, my favourite seasons being autumn and winter, so this rainy, chilly weather is right up my street.
I know it is selfish, but it's not as if I am controlling the weather.
Does anyone else feel similarly?

Well our local news last week was talking about how bad the wet weather has been for potatoes, so I don't want to hear anyone on here moaning about shortage of potatoes or prices going up! 😀

Yes, it's been shit for farmers and there will be a knock on effect to food prices.

@Misthios

Most of MN love it. The same people who wax lyrical about cosy it is and and hot choccie and snuggling on the sofa under a blankie and never having to leave the house and interact with people.

The weather is crap in the UK for usually 11 months of the year. They get plenty of their preferred shit weather. They love to pile into the threads where people are posting about SAD or struggling with the lack of light to twitter on about candles and fairy lights and snuggling. They similarly cannot cope with the very limited time of warmer weather and longer daylight.

Weirdos.

All of this. Does my head in. 'OMG the temperature has gone over 23 degrees C in JULY! I CANNOT COPE! I need winter, hot chocolate, snuggles on the sofa, warm cosy blankies, dark nights, 'crisp' weather.' cosy cosy cosy!!!!!' 🙄

Bring on the sun, and some REALLY HOT WEATHER! Like, 35 degrees C! For the next 2 months!

Tumbleweed101 · 07/07/2024 13:12

My favorite season is early autumn, before the clocks go back but that's because it usually comes after a long, hot summer. We need a summer first to give a bit of contrast to the year.

The rain has felt relentless since November.

longdistanceclaraclara · 07/07/2024 13:45

I've got changed three times today. Jeans and a jumper it was cold, jeans and a t shirt as after a monsoon like downpour it was a bit warmer. Now in shorts and t shirt because it's actually warm with the sun out. Pissing me off.

I agree. Surely even those who like cooler temperatures and torrential rain are sick of it? I understand enjoying it when you've had a few weeks of warmer weather, but when it's consistently wet and cold surely it loses it's appeal?

Not really for me. I don't know why. I have SAD but not the well-known way around. I get depressed in summer and my mood improves in the autumn and winter.

MidnightPatrol · 07/07/2024 13:52

Torrential rain, thunder and lightening here.

I don’t believe for a minute that this is anyone’s preferred weather.

I’d be at risk of drowning just walking to the car.

Do you mean your mood is lower when the sun is out? Because so far this year, (and for most of last year) the summer weather hasn't actually been too different from what we usually expect in Autumn and Winter.

spiderlight · 07/07/2024 13:53

YANBU! I much prefer this to heat and our dog is so much happier too.

No, it's not to do with the sun being out. I don't feel down on sunny autumn and winter days. I believe it's related to the changes in light due to the sun appearing higher in the sky, which for some reason I'm very aware of, and circadian rhythm issues from increased daylight hours.

MasterShardlake · 07/07/2024 13:57

I'd prefer a hot summer but this year I've got a new garden and planted loads in the spring. Everything is growing like mad with all the rain and I haven't had to do any watering...also weeding is easy.
Normally our clay soil is set like concrete by now and impossible to get weeds out.

I assume your dog is a spaniel of some sort then

TheaBrandt · 07/07/2024 14:01

Hate it. I enjoy the features of the different seasons. Enjoying 12 months of interminable unchanged chilly grey and wet weather seems extremely weird to me.

Move countries, it's not gonna happen here thank god.

You can't get SAD in summer. 🙄

ThursdayTomorrow · 07/07/2024 14:07

I’m loving it. 23 is the max temp that is comfortable. Rain and cloud are great. Much better than being hot.

@Disturbia81

Of course it can happen here. It has happened quite a few times. We have hit the mid 30s quite often in the UK.

And no I won't move countries. YOU (and the other doom-mongers enjoying this shitty cold damp weather IN JULY!,) move countries if you want cold 'crisp' weather in July! Go to Iceland or Svalbard or something!

Honestly, this forum sometimes! Who the fuck actively wishes for cold, wet, winter weather In JULY?! I don't know one single person like this in real life.

No thanks. I’m quite happy here. Neither am I a doom monger for enjoying mild temperatures. It’s not shitty weather, it’s just not boiling hot.

I'm sorry but of course it's shitty weather. You may enjoy it more than sun but no one can say it's not shitty weather that's just not accurate.

Sallysoup · 07/07/2024 14:13

I'm team summer, but maybe we could compromise!! 19° max, light breeze, blue sky with some fluffy white clouds.. not 14°, grey, cold rainy days. I'd prefer 22-24° but I'm willing to be reasonable 😁

Makemydaypunk · 07/07/2024 14:13

Lower temperatures are fine but I want blue sky and sunshine, the relentless grey is just so awful.
