So far this has been a great summer for me. I cannot tolerate the heat, my favourite seasons being autumn and winter, so this rainy, chilly weather is right up my street.
I know it is selfish, but it's not as if I am controlling the weather.
Does anyone else feel similarly?

I absolutely love it too! Don't shout about it because I can see how galling it is for heat lovers. But, yes, could live in this weather for ever and be completely happy.

feellikeanalien · 07/07/2024 14:20

It's been exactly the same weather forecast every week since last October except that instead of it being 6 degrees and cloudy it's now 15 degrees and cloudy. It's bloody miserable.

I don't like excessive heat but just to be able to go out without a coat or a jumper might be nice.

We had one nice day a couple of weeks ago when I actually got to wear some summer clothes. I'm looking out the window at the black cloud and contemplating having to put the heating on just to dry the washing.

I get that people don't like heat but we haven't even had temperatures in the high teens for more than a couple of days here.

Disturbia81 · 07/07/2024 14:21

@HungryLittleCrocodile Chill out 😂 maybe go outside in the garden.
I haven't said I like rain.
I meant those high temps won't be happening this year.
Saying this summer is "shitty" is an opinion, not a statement of fact. For many people it's been a great summer. Everyone is different. I look after people outside all day and we're out and about and they have all been relieved at the cooler temps instead of suffering the heat. Many people struggle with hot weather. Yes the ideal would be cool dry sunny days but they'll take this over being constantly uncomfortable.

Disturbia81 · 07/07/2024 14:22

I miss the sun, but I’m so glad it isn’t hot. It hit 47 degrees in San Francisco yesterday!! That’s nearly 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Anything above 80 is unpleasant. Above 90 in unbearable (for me anyway). People say “oh, yes, but they’ve all got air conditioning.” True, but that means sleeping with all your windows shut, then in the morning walking out into a blasting furnace. Poor Michael Mosley seems to have been quite literally killed by the heat.

RitaFromThePitCanteen · 07/07/2024 14:23

I like the temperatures but wouldn't mind a bit blue sky every now and then.

Yes I feel the same way. I’ve dreaded hot weather since the hot summers of ‘76 and 77. I hate seeing plants die, trees under strain and thirsty animals. My garden has never been so green. Like you, I can’t cope with the heat. Everywhere else in the world is overheating and people are really suffering. My view is that we don’t know how lucky we are.

But no one is asking for hot weather. Confused I haven't seen anyone begging for a heatwave. Most people just want some dry days where the temperature actually makes it out of the teens. Which you have to admit isn't an unreasonable request in July.

Shitty isn't an opinion. It's a fact that the weather for this time of year is shitty. You may enjoy wet windy weather more than dry weather with a bit of sun but you enjoying that doesn't make this weather not shit.

I would settle for dry and warm enough to wear a t shirt
I'm not even a huge heat fan but the constant fucking rain... enough now

Disturbia81 · 07/07/2024 14:37

@Procrastinates No I don't want it rainy, I like dry sunny days. Never said I liked the rain. Maybe learn to read peoples posts instead of assuming.
And no for many this isn't shitty.

Pissing down with rain for the majority of the summer IS shitty and unseasonable.

That's because some people like shitty summer weather.

But if they can't have the middle ground, they would rather have this than suffering in the heat.

Ok great you want it dry too which is all most of those saying they dislike this weather want. People always act like the options are torrential downpours and gale force winds or 30+ degrees. A week of dry weather is literally all most people want in summer.

Although as much as you argue it's not been shitty weather I cannot agree with you. The weather for summer so far has been shitty.

Deb13b · 07/07/2024 14:42

I love this grim weather! Favourite time of year is autumn, with spring a close second. I hate the hot weather, I feel ill with it.

bittertwisted · 07/07/2024 15:25

Hate it, but appreciate makes some people happy
I love hot weather, and can't stand tights and boots and coats

If I lived in an always hot country I would never get anything done, I love being outside in the sun

This weather has actually made my hay fever worse

BelligerentBanana · 07/07/2024 15:48

Weather does not bother me; I don’t get excited or depressed by it.

But I worry about the effect on crops. And I feel bad for those planning special events like weddings whose events have been ruined.

And I challenge anyone visiting a festival or outdoor concert today to be squealing with joy at the downpours!

EdithStourton · 07/07/2024 16:08

I'm totally pissed off with it and desperate for a few weeks of warm sunny weather. It's not just the rain and the cloud and the lack of heat, it's also the bloody wind which is busy blowing my garden over.

triangleatthetop · 07/07/2024 16:10

Same here! I much prefer this to a hot summer.

TheaBrandt · 07/07/2024 16:34

Honestly I do get the appeal of autumn winter proper but there’s a time and a place. Hate the slightly biting chilly breeze and the inability to sit out on a warm evening. Miserable.

Sux2buthen · 07/07/2024 16:34

It suits me. I meant to lose weight for a 'hot girl summer' but I've only just started so maybe I'll be ready for the next one Grin

SoupDragon · 07/07/2024 12:53

Yes, it's been shit for farmers and there will be a knock on effect to food prices.

That's awful, but you do realise we didn't 'order' or request this weather.

It's perfectly possible to be sad about lost lambs and farmers and also like the colder, wetter weather... and although I'm unlikely to complain about price hikes due to weather, me suddenly saying I hate the rain isn't going to change that. The two things aren't related to me at all.

Honestly, the people jumping up and down as if people who like the rain are personally responsible for it sound more than a little unhinged
