AIBU for loving this grim weather?

So far this has been a great summer for me. I cannot tolerate the heat, my favourite seasons being autumn and winter, so this rainy, chilly weather is right up my street.
I know it is selfish, but it's not as if I am controlling the weather.
Does anyone else feel similarly?

And don't get me started on the really angry one...weirdoes indeed

LlynTegid · 07/07/2024 17:37

I dislike weather presenters assuming everyone has a preference for a certain type of weather.

I don't share your preference but do not consider you unreasonable for it.

I’m loving it. 23 is the max temp that is comfortable. Rain and cloud are great. Much better than being hot.

I dream of 23 degrees. It's currently 17 something here. I the winter I would have the heating on.

Ohyoudodoyou · 07/07/2024 18:18

I'm in the sun in a lounger right this moment but it has rained most of the day! This cool breeze blowing the trees and the hot (but not too hot, Tommy Cooper) sun on my face is pleasant.

NeelyOHara1 · 07/07/2024 18:23

Yes, I prefer this as there is some sun and blue skies (in between the grey and rain) whereas the heatwave the other week (in London at least) was, for me, uncomfortable to be out in, and to sleep in.

Yes it's great OP. It's just an average British summer - or how they used to be - so I am not finding it grim at all.

@Disturbia81

Of course it can happen here. It has happened quite a few times. We have hit the mid 30s quite often in the UK.

And no I won't move countries. YOU (and the other doom-mongers enjoying this shitty cold damp weather IN JULY!,) move countries if you want cold 'crisp' weather in July! Go to Iceland or Svalbard or something!

Honestly, this forum sometimes! Who the fuck actively wishes for cold, wet, winter weather In JULY?! I don't know one single person like this in real life.

Edited

Are you quite alright?

RoseMarigold · 07/07/2024 18:29

Prefer it a bit warmer to be honest.

socks1107 · 07/07/2024 19:09

How has people's preference of weather turned into another Mumsnet argument.
It's weather, it's pretty rotten for June and some like it some don't.
Dress appropriately, cross your fingers for August and stop bickering like high school girls Grin

JaneEyreBedHair · 07/07/2024 19:15

Yes, I’m loving it too, but we’re lucky that we’re getting plenty of sun/blue skies in between the showers, more like Spring weather 😀.

rockstarshoes · 07/07/2024 19:15

So many nice events being cancelled, outdoor theatre & cinema events, concerts etc I think it's a bit miserable!

Would be happier if it was dry! 😕

LaurieFairyCake · 07/07/2024 19:20

Yep, it's great

Only had three days of unbearable heat so far this year where I had to sleep with the fan on

Most days can get out with the dogs for a walk no problem

Yes unhinged is the word.. I think that person internally combusted 😆

ThePeopleDemandMoreBenAndHolly · 07/07/2024 17:35

That's awful, but you do realise we didn't 'order' or request this weather.

It's perfectly possible to be sad about lost lambs and farmers and also like the colder, wetter weather... and although I'm unlikely to complain about price hikes due to weather, me suddenly saying I hate the rain isn't going to change that. The two things aren't related to me at all.

Honestly, the people jumping up and down as if people who like the rain are personally responsible for it sound more than a little unhinged

I agree, unhinged and a bit aggressive.

We've had a thunderstorm here today and it was great, love storms!

We were supposed to have them here but they never materialised Sad

Rosie7475 · 07/07/2024 20:19

I definitely don't appreciate the rain! As long as it's dry anything between about 17-24 degrees is fantastic and much better for my dogs too.

Over 30 and I start to struggle.

Well at least they’ll feel a bit warmer now!

Hellskitchen24 · 07/07/2024 20:44

It’s awful. I think I’ve sat outside about 3 times all summer. Haven’t sat outside in the evening once yet as it’s too cold. Thick socks and jumpers on most of the time. The rain has been relentless. How anyone can enjoy this when it’s our normal weather from October to about April is staggering. I’m feeling incredibly low.

yhk · 07/07/2024 20:58

I work night shifts frequently and much prefer to drive home in the morning without the sun blazing. Also, I sleep much better after a night shift when it is cooler and overcast.

The rain doesn't bother me as I dress for it. I am absolutely loving this weather and long may it continue.

RaininSummer · 07/07/2024 21:39

Cripes. I dress for the rain but I really would like to wear a summer outfit with sandals in July .

Absolutely!! 💯
I hate hot weather, especially if it's humid. I always feel faint and just stay indoors when I can.
Give me the British weather any day of the week. 😍

pambeesleyhalpert · 07/07/2024 21:48

SAME! Love it

BondStreet · 07/07/2024 21:48

I think each to their own , if you like this weather that’s great.

I like having different seasons and do prefer a warm summer but equally I do adore autumn and winter.

I would love a few bbqs in the garden though.

ForGreyKoala · 07/07/2024 22:22

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 07/07/2024 10:22

13 degrees here, and the highest temp on my weather app is 15 until Friday. Schools broke up here last Friday (Scotland) and honestly, we just want a bit of warmer weather/not lashing rain. I love hot weather but right now I would settle for not having to wear a jumper or have the heating on.

It's winter where I live, and those are the temps we are having here - but with sunshine!! 🌞

And I'm desperate for summer to arrive.

I really don't understand these miserable people who just love greyness and rain, and can't abide a temperature over 20 degrees. Probably because I've never actually met one in real life.
