Woman complained to manager about DD

So my DD works at McDonalds whilst she’s at sixth form and today she’s come home upset. She was working at the window, handing out the food.

This woman made a complaint to the manager that DD didn’t say a single word to her or look at her when she passing her the drink and food and that she was too busy talking to her friend. Complained to manager who had words with them both.

DD said this was true but at the end of the day it’s McDonald’s, it’s full of teenagers, as long as you get your food quickly does it even matter what the service is like?!

Nothing wrong with chatting to your friend but as soon as a customer approaches, you stop immediately, smile and greet the customer politely and give them your full attention. It’s not hard and most teens can manage that.

This really rattled me reading this thread I must admit. I never post but felt I should. I’m glad most feel the same as me. I got a job in McDonald’s at 16 to see me through 6th form, keep my car going and then uni. I was taught to go to work, nothing is free in life, and a job is a job, oh and respect anyone that goes to work no matter what they do! My dad always taught me to work hard no matter what job you do because you never know where it may lead. I credit my 5 years in McDonald’s to who I am today - genuinely. It might be ‘just McDonald’s’ to you but to some it’s a lifeline, I learnt a heck of a lot working there so please make sure your daughter knows whatever job she has, she needs to work hard else her work ethic will be rubbish.

I graduated with a degree in maths whilst working in McDonald’s, I’m a chartered accountant now, (and a parent). I get your daughter was upset, it’s never nice being criticised. We’re human. But it’s a good lesson.

…. It’s pretty bad if your only job is to hand bags of food thru a McD window and you struggle and need mummy to get advice on MN.

I hope the results of this poll have not only taught the daughter a lesson but also her ridiculous mother!

If you were in a restaurant and the waiter behaved like that would you think that, as long as you get your food the level of service doesn’t matter? It feels very rude in any retail situation if the person serving doesn’t even look at you.
