Obviously I can't tell you who to vote for but then there is this:

Farage wants to privatise the NHS. Nuff said.

It's halfway privatised already.

Lower tax equas higher tax take. Allowing lower paid workers to earn more before being taxed would lower benefit bills.

As unpopular as it may be, utilising costs earmarked for climate change/net zero would be far better used elsewhere.

Lowering corporation tax will allow investment in the UK, producing jobs which allow more people in work.

The mere thought of lower taxes, allowing people to keep more of their own money and investing for growth is so unpalatable for some, it doesn't matter which party it comes from they will never accept it can bring in more money than the constant taxing of everything. Growth has to come from somewhere, Labour's idea of not changing current tax levels and raising some, whilst somehow ensuring growth is not going to work.

The non dom tax and private school VAT is not going to pay for a lot, irrespective of how many times a Labour chancellor says it will.

If it was just about lowering tax for low earners then fine if funded but lowering taxes across the board is just back to Truss enomics again. It's not the time.

Austerity wrecked public services and the Tories (and Covid costs, Putin and Liz Truss) have wrecked the economy. Farage's manifesto has no economic merit.

I have lots of friends who are planning to vote Reform and none of them are racist. Yes they are concerned about uncontrolled immigration, amongst other things, but that's something different entirely and I don't think it's helpful to confuse the two 🌈

Exactly. Every party has racists.

Shortfatsuit · 02/07/2024 18:27

caringcarer · 02/07/2024 18:20

Many lower paid workers would be taken out of paying tax or only pay a low amount. I don't see why people can't see this would be fair.

We don't know how they would pay for the massive tax cuts, which would benefit the highest earners the most. It would have to be austerity on steroids to make the books balance. So, cuts to public services/welfare benefits etc. A lot of those of the lowest incomes might well end up losing more in benefits than they would gain in tax savings, we just don't know.

Reform hasn't set out how they would pay for any of their policies so it is all hypothetical. They know that they won't have to implement them so they can promise what they like without worrying about how it would be paid for. But if they were actually voted into power, those questions would need to be confronted and I don't think many people would be happy with the fallout.

So if your fictional friends are concerned about immigration, why would they vote for Reform? It used to be called UKIP, then the Brexit party.

Farage caused Brexit. Since we Brexited, immigration has shot through the roof. Do you think there may be a correlation? Will wait patiently for an answer. Tell Tice and Farage you’ll need a pay rise for the overtime.

Where should someone with right of centre views vote if they are totally disillusioned with the tories and particularly the gross double standards they were guilty of during covid? Cant vote Tory again so soon on principle.

No one is catering for you. I think a lot of moderate, sane Tory voters who were completely alienated by Johnson, Truss and the stranglehold that the ERG has had on the Tory party since Brexit don't have a party that aligns with their views anymore. But that can't justify voting for far-right racists, surely?

I think for those Tories, it's better if the Lib Dems do well. The Tory party has to rebuild after this election. If Reform are successful, it will lurch even further right. If the electorate reject Reform, the decimated husk of the party might build closer to the centre again.

SherbetSweeties · 02/07/2024 18:29

You don’t get to tell people how to vote. 🗳️

Because it would cost about over 100 billion that we don’t have, and the lowest earners would be slightly better off while the rich would be massively better under Reform’s plan to slash Corp tax to 15%. It’s the rich who will reap the benefits, not the poor, according to the IFS.

And they reckon they can fund this by cutting our public services. How? There are hardly any left? The NHS and Social care are the likely targets. Maybe we should leave pensioners to die in their homes. It will save us a few quid.

IfImOnFire · 02/07/2024 18:30

Viviennemary · 02/07/2024 18:26

Exactly. Every party has racists.

No other party has has racism scandals on the scale of Reform. Look at the past week - three kicked out for their vile comments about black people, two expelled for being BNP members, two resigned due to horror at the widespread racism embedded throughout the party plus the Channel 4 expose. There is nothing like it in other parties - nowhere near.

Because I won't support the Conservatives for their broken promises, I'm terrified of Labour and Lib Dems who will erode women's rights and both are too pro trans people in female spaces which will put female rights back 50 years, remember the Labour conference where all had to use unisex toilets? I agree with Reform UK that the BBC should be an optional service, there are 2 biological sexes and people can't change when they feel like it, the threshold has been frozen for too long and immigration is too high. I also think Labour will try to negotiate with the EU and it will be to the detriment of UK fishing. I also suspect capital gains tax will be increased and inheritance tax too.

I used a unisex toilet in a museum on Sunday. I've lived to tell the tale. I very much hope the incoming government will increase both inheritance tax and capital gains tax.

You care about women’s rights but yet want to vote for Farage who supports Andrew Tate and convicted rapist ‘grab em by the pussy’ and ‘take away their right to choose’ Trump?

The Reform social media team are fucking shit aren’t they? I thought Tice , Farage and Aaron Banks were rich? Can’t they afford to fund a better operation than this? Maybe true to far right wing form they pay peanuts and provide poor working conditions so get low quality staff?

Me too. Only a tiny proportion of estates are liable for inheritance tax in any case. A lot of people assume that it will affect them when they're way off the threshold.

LadyCrumpet · 02/07/2024 18:54

It would have to be austerity on steroids to make the books balance.

Whoever gets in are going to need to do this 🙄

schloss · 02/07/2024 11:27

Obviously I can't tell you who to vote for but then there is this:

But you are are doing exactly that by saying, vote Labour, Tories, Lib Dems etc but not Reform.

We live in a democracy where people choose who to vote for. The decision is made on either a postal vote or on 04th July when you put an X in a box - it is not for you or anyone else to say.

Why are you trying to control the expression of someone's opinion? People are absolutely entitled to express a view on the merits of voting for a racist party or candidate.

Shortfatsuit · 02/07/2024 18:59

Not on the same scale. Reform's commitments would cost many multiples of the commitments being made by Labour or the Tories. The Greens' spending commitments are through the roof as well.

None of the parties are being honest about how they're going to pay for stuff, but look at the detail of the spending commitments and you will see that they are not the same.

Like I said earlier, it's easy to promise the moon when you know you won't have to deliver it.

Do you mean @caringcarer is paid / staff?

zaffa · 02/07/2024 19:02

@Lillianer do you think a Farage led government would be a safer place for women than a Starmer led one? Really? How will you be safer? Is it the way he admires Andrew Tate or Vladimir Putin, you know, those two well known advocates of women's rights?

User135644 · 02/07/2024 19:04

Two obvious points:

  1. their immigration targets would wreck the economy further which puts the squeeze on everyone again.

Even if making the UK a pariah by taking us out the ECHR helps reduce the boats, that's the reality with the legal routes which is most immigration.

  1. their tax cuts across the board would do the same
Flamme · 02/07/2024 19:06

remember the Labour conference where all had to use unisex toilets?

I do.

I also remember that it caused, um, no problems whatsoever.

Swingingvvoter · 02/07/2024 19:10

@Flamme putting a pink bus aside and aksing women and trans women to go in there would also cause no problems, probably on that day

You vote for who you want , everyone else will do the same.
Why do you think you can influence others. None of your business .

ll09sm · 02/07/2024 19:12

I don’t think MN crowd are your target audience for this OP. Everyone here is already a progressive, innit?

Viviennemary · 02/07/2024 19:14

Telling people who to vote for isn't a good idea. This isn't Russia you know.

happyhemsby · 02/07/2024 19:15

I'm voting Reform. Not because I'm racist but because they are the only ones offering to sort out the immigration crisis in this country. The nhs, housing and schools need sorting out. I want to be able to get an appointment at my gp surgery. The only way to fix the problem is to reduce the population.

StarDolphins · 02/07/2024 19:19

Shortfatsuit · 02/07/2024 14:48

Yes, I agree. There will always be right wing bigots that vote for right wing bigoted parties. It isn't illegal.

I find it quite helpful when people openly admit to voting Reform, as it tells me exactly what kind of person they are and I know not to bother with them going forward.

What an excellent & passive aggressive contribution! Along with your ‘I don’t hold it against people’)ones too🤣
