No, we haven't had a world war. But we have had large amounts of the population destabilised by the poverty created by a global pandemic, which followed hot on the heels of a disastrous Brexit deal. And total mismanagement by the sitting government. It's not too much of a stretch to see how the social conditions in the UK, Europe and across the Atlantic are perfect for the rise of the far right and another charismatic leader telling people what they want to hear whilst scapegoating and 'othering' large swathes of the population. Take one of Reform's flagship policies: higher taxes for companies who employ immigrants. Isn't that straight out of the Nazi play book? So yes, I'm extremely wary of parties who say they want a proper conversation about immigration, whilst simultaneously refusing to accept that there is a whole host of other reasons, besides immigration, that we're in the state we're in.

If you were to move to many other countries (nigh on impossible for many Brits now) companies have to prove they couldn't employ a native, if they employed you. Most people can't get work unless they work for themselves or are employed remotely on a contract basis by a foreign company.

There are lots of examples where countries put thier own first over immigrants/ex-pats.

There is no reason why the UK shouldn't/can't.

Reform is up to 20% in latest poll.

just over 15% where did you get that from your imagination?

Would be quite funny if they won though

I genuinely think this is why some people might vote Reform: for shits and giggles!

At this point, it really is a contest between Reform and Labour. LOL if they have to form a coalition... 😂😂

Jutemat · 03/07/2024 16:50

So it just splits the tory vote. Bit pointless having 2 big right wing parties vs one big left one!

Well, perhaps Reform can help me differentiate the genuine concerns from racism by stopping racists from standing for election and unequivocally condemning what their candidates have said. Dear Nigel has stopped short of doing that, preferring instead to minimise:

"Speaking at a Reform UK event in Boston, Lincolnshire, party leader Nigel Farage said the party was not "perfect".

"We've had one or two candidates that have said things they shouldn't have said," he said. "In most cases they're just speaking like ordinary folk.

"They're not part of the mainstream political Oxbridge speak, we understand that. In some cases one or two people let us down and we let them go."

Minimising racism and extreme prejudice as "oh, they're just speaking like ordinary folk" shows what an abhorrent, odious little toad this man really is.

If Reform really want a sensible conversation about immigration, then they'd do far better to stop fielding racists.

By the way, anti-semitism didn't just explode overnight in 1930s Germany. It crept in off the back of extreme poverty caused by WW1 reparations. Poverty found a voice in a charismatic individual who told the population what they thought they needed to hear ("we'll make everything OK for you"). It just so happened that it was the Jews who were scape goats back then.

Spot any parallels yet?

In some cases one or two people let us down and we let them go.

Genuine question: If 'letting members go when outed as racist' makes Reform racist, what action would you say would make Reform a non-racist party?
Surely, if Reform were a racist party, they would keep those members?

And as for a solution being 'not letting them join in the first place'... Obviously, these people aren't going to reveal themselves from the outset, are they?

nomoretoriesforme · 03/07/2024 17:15

If it was my imagination, it would be polling 45. It's GB news people's poll. You can google it

Do you not think that GB News might be a tiny bit biased?Grin

What kind of party has campaigners out in the street advocating about bringing in the army from Deal to shoot migrants as they make the crossing to Dover?

What kind of party have campaigners who use the ‘P’ word?

What party have campaigners who say we should have compromised with Hitler?

Its NO coincidence that these people are out for Reform.

These people are the core of the party. The scum leftovers from the BNP and other saddos.

The rest of the so-called Reform ‘policies’ are just window-dressing.

How is this hard to understand? Racist bigots are real. They exist. They are the underbelly of society. This is what Farage specifically appeals to - most are silent, but sometimes the mask slips and they get caught out.

There will be thousands voting for Reform tomorrow who, when all is said and done, are nasty ignorant racists. Let’s not pretend otherwise.

Ad a PP said - not all Reform-voters are racist, but all racists in the U.K. will vote Reform.

Back in the day, Farage tried to involve Enoch Powell in his shenanigans.

Farage is the public schoolboy with a chip in his shoulder who never got to Oxbridge so fancies himself as an agitator instead. His agenda is provoking division, hate and his own smug self-aggrandisement. He believes in British exceptionalism and a Rule Britannia rhetoric that belongs firmly in the past. He is not a leader - it’s one thing to snipe from the sidelines, quite another to actually do the stuff of govt.

If you’re happy to chime in with this scum, good luck.

I agree with you on this is all getting tedious - bring in tomorrow I say!

DoingTheChaCha · 03/07/2024 17:58

I wouldn’t trust the polls for the result tomorrow.

A lot of people who are going to vote Reform won’t admit it precisely due to the hysterical opinions of ‘those that shout the loudest’ that they are all thick racist bigots as expressed on this thread.

This country’s governance needs a massive kick up the backside so hopefully Reform will get a good proportion of votes.

IwillNOTplayfastandloosewithpublicfinances · 03/07/2024 18:02

They will probably win a couple of seats. They can occupy each other doing their Little Englander spectacle in red jeans and tweed on the back benches and nobody will bother with them as they have no actual realistic policies.

‘Turn the boats back to France….’ Go on then Nigel, see how many you can actually apprehend….

On the plus side, similarly unhinged twits of the Tory persuasion such as Braverman, Truss, JRM may well find lose their seats. Bye!

Seashor · 03/07/2024 18:05

The party I would definitely not vote for are Labour, absolutely abhorrent party.

Why do posts from 'the left' always ooze such nastiness?

If you need pointers on why some people might vote for a party like Reform, I'd suggest looking a little closer to home...

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 03/07/2024 21:47

Great article here about exactly how close to Russia Farage and his coterie actually are. These are criminally shady people masquerading as politicians. Do NOT for the love of God vote for this.

Shady Bastards

Sadly, he will probably win in Clacton tomorrow. Does this mean -

a) He will have to buy a house in Clacton and actually spend lengths of time there?

b) He will have to give up his shows in GB news and LBC?

I suppose every cloud has a silver lining.

Maybe someone could find him a chalet in Jaywick.

MrsSkylerWhite · 04/07/2024 00:06

Anyone who lives in Jaywick, @firef1y, has a tough life already. Last think they need is Nige moving in next door 😱

Won’t admit it to a polling company? Why ever not? A pollster isn’t going to call them bigoted, he’s just going to write their answer down. Are they so ashamed of it they can’t even begin to admit it in a situation where they don’t know the person they are speaking to, will never speak to them again and nobody will ever know they said it? Why might that be, do you think?

I'm voting Reform UK. I don't tell others who to vote for or who not to vote for. We live in a democracy.

Advocating, campaigning, sharing information, and sharing your opinion about who others should vote for is a cornerstone of a democratic society.

Ordered to vote a certain way or you will be punished= not democracy
Having someone on an internet site tell you what they think and why, loads of other people share true individual opinions and information sources, and you free to respond and make the choice= democracy

I think it's more the 'if you vote X you must therefore automatically be a racist/bigot/lefty woke idiot'. It's not helpful. Although I suppose anyone who writes that sort of basic stuff is probably not a great intellect so probably can be ignored.

Swingingvvoter · 04/07/2024 17:35

@mousehole I totally disagree re racism within tory ranks.

Unfortunately I think in varying degrees there is racism and Misogyny evry where in varying degrees.
But it is the tory who have had more diverse leadership.. Having said that I'm interested in our first proper state educated cabinet.
