You do understand that they’re only saying they’ll stop illegal immigration? Farage has accepted that we need legal immigration. So that’s less than 30,000 people per year. That’s less than 100 people for every council in the UK, or about 4 for every GP practice in the uk. It will make fuck all difference to you getting a doctor’s appointment.

You are very naive if you think immigrants all go evenly around the country. Try living near Birmingham or Bradford and getting a GP appointment. I bet you don't live in an area with very high immigration.

Corporation tax is 10% in Bulgaria, yet it has the lowest GDP in the EU. I don’t think your theory works.

It’s low in ROI which has done well with multinationals and surplus

Kendodd · 02/07/2024 21:47

God, just read some of this thread and am absolutely agog at the shite some people believe. I suppose we're living in a time of flat earth/ anti vaxxers/ climate change deniers/ we don't need experts know it alls.

I don't agree. If you work hard and pay tax on your earnings, then you save, I don't think its reasonable to pay tax on the same money when you die. That's double taxation. I want to be able to leave money to my DC not have the chancellor take it to give it to unemployed people who have no intention of ever getting a job.

You don’t pay ineritance tax, quite obviously. Your descendants do. They didn’t earn it. Or shouldn’t you pay tax on your earnings because your boss/the company already paid tax on the money they use to pay you?

TheKoalaWhoCould · 02/07/2024 22:02

@caringcarer 1 in 5 nhs staff are from overseas - is getting rid of a 5th of the nhs workforce going to help people get appointments….?

My local authority has the highest per capita number of asylum seekers in the UK. Liverpool has half as many asylum seekers as London, even though we’re 1/18th of the size, so literally 9 times as many as London. The Home Office prefer to house them here because there’s a big HO centre, and housing is cheaper.

Do you know what other choice they could make? Complete the assessments. Let them house themselves. Get rid of the ones not found eligible. They’ve created this crisis.

They might this time, and if they don’t, eventually they will.

The only way out is through.

Survation's latest poll is predicting 7 seats.

Going forward, a lot will depend how good those theoretical 7 MPs are. Looking at the calibre of some of the candidates (Bristol Central for example), some may do a poor job and so will soon be voted out again. And how Farage himself performs as an MP will be crucial too.

caringcarer · 02/07/2024 21:36

During the Labour conference many female MP's were spotted using the toilet at M&S so they obviously didn't share your enthusiasm for mixed toilets.

Who said I was enthusiastic about them? They're a perfectly reasonable facility. Nothing more, nothing less.

LadyCrumpet · 02/07/2024 21:45

Maybe, these new companies could be encouraged to pay a decent wage and people can afford to have one parent at home again and our population will increase.

Add in the money freed up by not putting up God knows how many people in hotels, and all the other associated costs, there will be more money for social housing, community projects, state nurseries, etc and people will be happier and more secure, therefore leading to an increase in population again.

Oh. It's the Míriam Cates playbook.

I live in Bradford. I have no complaints about the service offered by my GP.

I agree wholeheartedly! Was just answering the poster that implied I’m so liberal because I must live in an area with no asylum seekers.

But I do, and we’re not consumed with hatred towards them. In fact, we haven’t had a Tory MP in Liverpool since 1983. It’s rubbish when people suggest that high immigration turns people to the right.

VoteOutToHelpOut · 02/07/2024 22:31

Oh, a conspiracy theorist on Insta. A very reliable source of information.

Swingingvvoter · 02/07/2024 22:33

Anyway personally I could not vote Reform they are too new and can't vet people properly.
Maybe in a few years they will be viable

Swingingvvoter · 02/07/2024 22:35

@Anonym00se. Hilarious what would turn someone blue there?
I'm the daughter of a dyed red labour supporter.

I live in an area of very low immigration, almost entirely white British, it's dire trying to get a GP appointment. And there are zero NHS dentists.

That old chestnut. Of course immigrants are always the Drs and never the patients, always the teachers and never the school kids, always the bus drivers and never the passengers. It's a miracle how they can supply us with all this beneficence while consuming no resources at all.

You may be misunderstanding this particular election. If you are centre right and don't want to vote Tory then Reform is the only alternative for a protest vote. Most reform voters are presumably not slavering racists. They are not shitty people as far as I know. You must know thousands. Or you've been reading the Guardian too much. You're a good example of why people should keep their political leanings private.

This! 👏👏

Jumpingthruhoops · 02/07/2024 22:55

Dontknowwhattodo2024 · 02/07/2024 15:05

@Shortfatsuit I think it’s your sort of attitude that forces people to vote for parties like reform to be honest. These people don’t feel listened to and their worries aren’t taken seriously. Perhaps if people had less judgement conversations things would be better

And this! 👏👏👏

It is very clear that they are generally motivated by racism and xenophobia. Few will openly admit to that, but it oozes out from everything that they do say. I've heard enough, I'm not interested any more. I don't want to give racists the time of day and I'm not interested in what they have to say. I do absolutely listen to the many people I encounter who are struggling but don't look to scapegoat immigrants for their troubles

I am sorry, but all this oozes that you are not listening. You clearly believe that immigration causes no issues for anyone, and anyone who says anything other is clearly a racist, but just trying to hide it, and you should stop listening to them.

There are people, like me, for whom immigration is nothing but a boon. The immigrants in my area talk fluent English, have professional jobs like me, delis and restaurants open, result!

However, for other people, immigration directly takes money from them by undercutting wages. For example, when I got my flat painted I got several quotes. The polish guy was one third the price of the local 'native' guys. Lots of trade freelancers have this issue. Its not scapegoating or racist for people facing such substantial loss of income and trade to be pissed by this and to see immigration as a problem. Because it very much is for them. My Polish neighbour when to work in school in deprived area of our city. She came back absolutely shocked by the number of Polish kids in the class who could not speak any English and said the teachers could not teach because of this. These are schools and pupils already facing substantial obstacles and challenges to success. Its not scapegoating or racist to acknowledge the problems immigration has caused in these areas.

I am really sick of people who only experience the boon of immigration slagging those who actually face the real life challenges it has caused for them, their families and their services. Deriding this as ' scapegoating' is really quite offensive.

Agree with every word here. But still they refuse to listen...
