Unfortunately I can't link to her clip, but she's a star and a hero. She pinned him down and cut through the "twaddle". I am a swing voter and would have been proud of a mntter holding any mp to account on an important issue like Jane did. Jane is/was even trending on twitter.

at 1.09 he says
when it comes to womens spaces, biological womens spaces (then talks about his work on VAWG in the past
at 1.57 he says
the need for women, for biological women, their spaces fo be safe, the same in sport, the same in hospitals
we will protect womens spaces that is our commitment....

we didn't get to hear how he would square the circle of giving GRCs actually, because Jane interrupted him
he has already said there are SSEs in the Equality Act, he needs to be challenged on 'legal sex' and the impact of Stonewall on understanding of the Equality Act
I don't see how you can interpret him saying 'the need for biological women's spaces to be safe' as meaning anything other than that TW with or without a GRC would be lawfully excluded.

Do you have the whole transcript?

newtlover · 28/06/2024 20:50

no sorry, it took me 10 mins to type that out! the timings are from the twitter clip

@EasternStandard

There is one on the mall but I can't link.

I didnt know anything about it until I saw 'Jane' was trending on Twitter!

She was magnificent.

solsticelove · 28/06/2024 20:53

Well. Done. Jane. 👏

He’s SO frightened of upsetting the tiny minority of transwomen. We need to keep on shouting this as loudly as possible as those who shout loudest usually get listened to (looking at you Stonewall and other trans rights groups/charities).

I actually appreciate him saying he wants to treat everyone with dignity and respect. That I like about him. I think I actually believe him on that. What I can’t get past is that he can’t guarantee women’s safety in spite of this.

MrsSkylerWhite · 28/06/2024 20:54

So everyone on this thread would be happy if we had 5 more years of Conservative government?

No. Not me. Doesn’t change the fact I want safe spaces for women. I don’t know who to vote for.

This is the single issue I will be voting on. Call me an emotional “woman” but it’s the one that means the most to me.

WhitegreeNcandle · 28/06/2024 21:00

jane you are bloody brilliant. Thank you so much for doing this. I find what’s happening almost dystopian.

I can’t vote for a party that thinks you can change biological sex. It’s utter bollocks and the world is losing its common sense.

PardonMee · 28/06/2024 21:00

how far through the interview?

Chickenuggetsticks · 28/06/2024 21:02

After he pulled that 99.9% of women don’t have a penis (thereby including transwomen in the category of woman) and thinking he was clever and women wouldn’t pick up on that I find it very hard to take anything he says at face value.

Go Jane!!!!

I think thats kind of the point isn’t it, it should be a no brainer, but women have a right to advocate for their rights, no party is owed a vote and people can decide where the line is for them.

I think it's the distinction between "safe-spaces" and "single-sex spaces". Single sex should mean exactly that, "safe spaces for women" potentially includes transwomen, with an obligation placed on service providers to risk assess, which solves nothing.

Not at all. Vote for what counts most for you. it’s not that big a deal to me but I can completely appreciate that it is to you. That’s the great thing about living in a democracy.

I’m a woman and sometimes emotional too, just about different things to you.

Whatever you do though please, please don’t vote Reform. That’s where my tolerance ends. As sensible women, I really hope that we can both agree on that 😁

I definitely would not be happy with more years of Conservative government. I've just posted this elsewhere because if you're undecided and feel politically homeless due to this issue then this party is a potential option in some areas.https://www.partyofwomen.org/ I am reading up on them now as know nothing about them. Definitely not an endorsement!

There's also spoiling your ballot.

I did wonder if we those of us who will be spoiling our ballot because of this issue alone could agree, and publicise, a manner of doing so or is this against the Electoral Rules?

The fact that Starmer supported that loony left communist Jeremy Corbyn is enough for me. I certainly won’t be voting Labour.

JaneVapeman · 28/06/2024 21:09

What concerns me, is that the people at the top seem to genuinely think this in a non issue. They will make it more dignified for trans people, they will protect them and us in the same space, end of.

They don't get it or understand it and I think this is the biggest worry. Why not properly look into the fuss? Investigate it.

If one of the big wigs could articulate our fears and give a reasonable answer back I would be happier
Every time keir mentions violence I know he's still not bothered to actually look into this.
Or, the stonewall donor is hanging over them??

Thanks for the clip - listened right through. At the end he talks about traumatised people who don’t identify with the sex they’re born into, then he starts to say it’s a toxic debate (at this point you know opposition is being shut down) and cites Rishi’s joke about a Brianha Ghey. WHY does he always bring up that poor kid? I have the utmost sympathy BUT that murder was an outlier that is not relevant to the majority of this debate. Why does he not talk about traumatised women? (He did mention victims of DV to be fair but what I mean is he doesn’t bang on with the same emphasis than he does about trans people). It’s just not proportionate, that’s what enrages me. The two things just don’t equate. So why won’t he take women seriously??

@MrsSkylerWhite I am voting Labour anyway because I’m choosing on a broad basis - but I am furious about this.
