Unfortunately I can't link to her clip, but she's a star and a hero. She pinned him down and cut through the "twaddle". I am a swing voter and would have been proud of a mntter holding any mp to account on an important issue like Jane did. Jane is/was even trending on twitter.

Jane wasn’t going to take his crap or allow him to talk in circles. Way to go, Jane! As others have said, it was effing brilliant! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

He said safe spaces, not single sex spaces, and will make the GRC process easier. So he absolutely thinks some men can use women’s spaces. He was clearly refusing to support women.

Hence my username.

Has he ever answered by referring to single sex rather than safe spaces? So many questions asked refer to single sex, but are not answered directly. Are there any clips or articles where he specifically answers precisely (as you might expect from his profession) does anyone have any?

Anyone now interviewing him or anyone else on this topic needs to be more Jane

AndThatsItReally · 29/06/2024 07:27

It was really good to hear. Well done Jane for doing that. It's not an easy thing when it comes to the point when the mic (phone) is on you.

I’ll say it. I’d rather the devil (and they truly are) we know that the proposed Labour government incoming. All the party has put out are utterly empty words with nothing to back them, no plan, no outliners. At least the Tories don’t even pretend to be ‘kind’, they know the country/economy has been utterly fuck from Brexit and Covid and quite frankly they’ve kept us treading water despite trying to run everyone under 50k a year into poverty and food banks

Labour has published a detailed, fully costed manifesto, whose aims you may agree or disagree with. So that second sentence is simply a lie.

Second, if the country has been “utterly fucked” by Brexit, they take the lions share of the blame for that. It was their choice to put a simple in/out referendum in front of a largely ignorant (on the EU) electorate - entirely to their own perceived benefit, and the electorate is already regretting its choice. So they fucked the economy.

Finally, please explain how they’ve “kept us treading water” - despite’ as you acknowledge, pushing hundreds of thousands onto food banks, making basic stuff unaffordable etc. So I’ll personally vote for the person who hasn’t shown themselves to be utterly incompetent at running a country, and whose party in fact did an incomparably superior job to this lot the last time they were in power.

You're all busy gushing with excitement over Jane but he's going to be prime minister next week, Jane or no Jane. She hasn't actually achieved anything.

Yes she has, she's brought this issue out into the light for a lot of people. Look at all the newspaper articles. Look at how many people on the various threads today have decided not to vote Labour because of this. Yes, Labour will still win next week but this will still send them a message that women will not put up with this bullshit. It played a part in the downfall of Sturgeon and Yousaf. More will follow in their footsteps if they don't take heed.

People who aren’t going to vote Labour due to hearing a tetchy two minute exchange, which are ten a penny during an election cycle, were never voting Labour anyway. At absolute worst, it “might” have lost them a couple of thousand votes - spread across 650 constituencies. Ultimately it doesn’t matter whether to Labour whether the Tories slump to 15% or manage to climb back to 20% on voting day. Labour is going to have a very comfortable majority indeed, so let’s judge them on their actions once in power.

Labour has published a detailed, fully costed manifesto

I’m not sure why this still is repeated given the IFS said it was a conspiracy of silence for voters over the reality.

On that manifesto they state Labour will need to increase taxes and decrease spending as the numbers don’t work.

Just because Labour say it is fully costed doesn't mean that it is.
Haven't IFS already poked holes in it and don't get me started on the fantasy maths for VAT, they have most certainly not costed that out.

CracklingLogsGalore · 29/06/2024 07:44

Ahhh bugger it. I can’t vote labour now can I? I cannot stomach any more conservatives but they’re looking the better option day by day. Womens spaces and preventing the trans movement from overrunning them is too important to me.

Summerhillsquare · 29/06/2024 07:44

She was rude, didn't listen, or produce an adequate case for sex based rights. Sorry, but that's won us few friends.

timetobegin · 29/06/2024 07:50

I think you’re wrong to assume it won’t lose votes. It’s a deal breaker for many because sex based rights are very much needed day to day.

The IFS have poked holes in all the manifestos - the Tory’s more than Labour in fact. But poking holes is quite a different thing to “no plan”.

I’ve read the Labour manifesto. Education is a key issue for me and they have absolutely nothing. The ‘we will have 6000+ more teachers’ is a joke, the manifesto doesn’t address why current teachers are leaving in droves. They have nothing on SEN support, their aims are purely academic standards which is detrimental and quite frankly part of the reason education is currently failing. And again, I know the Tories have failed in this area but Labour has no plan.

Second, if the country has been “utterly fucked” by Brexit, they take the lions share of the blame for that.

Johnston/Give/Farage are to blame for that. Those who had to pick up the pieces of the British choice had a near impossible job, when people were told it would be a disaster for the economy.

It was their choice to put a simple in/out referendum in front of a largely ignorant (on the EU) electorate - entirely to their own perceived benefit, and the electorate is already regretting its choice. So they fucked the economy.

I won’t lie, Cameron was arrogant in thinking it would be a clear cut choice and it would fall mostly in his favour. Though ignorance isn’t an excuse, the information was there, just like it’s there about Labour and the Conservatives this time. But Labour are this election’s version of Leave - it’s the land of milk and honey right now.

Finally, please explain how they’ve “kept us treading water”

Our economy has been on the verge of a recession for years, they have swerved us from it. By extreme hardline measures, yes I absolutely agree, and affecting the people least able to lose out.

Agreed because most manifestos are a working of fiction however Labour cling on to the claim that they have a fully costed manifesto when in some areas it really isn't.

She wasn't there to produce an adequate case for sex based rights. She didn't tarmac the roads either but that's not what she was trying to highlight.

She did listen but he was trying to not answer the question he'd been asked. She was preventing him from changing the subject.

We went out for dinner last night in quite a big group and it was discussed and some of the men said that it had drawn their attention to something they hadn't thought about much before. And one of the women said it had emboldened her to talk about how she felt.

Not for the vast majority though. Not compared to, say, being able to put food on the table. Or the prospect of you or your kids never being able to afford your own home. Polls in fact suggest that women are likely to vote for Labour in greater numbers than men, quite significantly so in some polls.

The IFS have said any government will need to increase taxes because there is no money and public services are fucked. Unfortunately the British public have always struggled to understand the link between functioning public services and taxation so politicians can’t be honest about it anyway 🤷‍♀️

Agreed. The vulnerable women I work with who live in abject poverty thanks to austerity will not be voting on the basis of single sex spaces. They have bigger more immediate worries.

As do the Tories and everyone else. The fact that all the Tories have left to attack Labour with is a “gotcha” over a detail of a couple of billion quid of manifesto pledge (with the IFS stating excatly the same for the Tories) is the reason the Tories are facing wipe out and polling . They can’t campaign on their record as they’ve brought the country to its knees and impoverished swathes of the country through their political choices.

Conspiracy of silence from the IFS is more than that

It means people repeat “fully costed” and are unaware of the reality coming

That’s why they said it

I'm no way supporting the Tories and agree with the wreck they have created. I'm just saying that Labour aren't above lying.
