Do you hang knickers on the line?

Or Bras for that matter. I've got a washing line for the first time ever but what is the done thing?

OP posts:
awaynboilyurheid · 27/06/2024 18:41

What year is it? Oh 2024 sorry thought we had gone back in time for a minute
Yes they’re only pants and clean ones!

Hairyesterdaygonetoday · 27/06/2024 18:43

Londonrach1 · 26/06/2024 21:22

Yes ..I don't have a flag pole so it have to be the washing line...

👍 😂

mynewusername2023 · 27/06/2024 18:55

I hang underwear on a clothes horse and position it in a part of our tiny garden that is not really overlooked. The washing line means everything can be seen by 2/3 houses.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 27/06/2024 18:59

Yes, I do! Dh hangs it out now so no idea what he does! I always used to peg them by the gusset, no idea why😵‍💫 Mine are big granny knickers too!

Must say I wouldn’t hang out reusable incontinence pads though even though no one knows they aren’t period pads!

AnCùDubh · 27/06/2024 19:14

Hoglet70 · 26/06/2024 21:21

But on one peg so they dangle as my knickers are huge and the neighbours can see my line. Underwear on the inside of the line and big stuff on the outside to hide it.

Thank god I'm not the only one who does this 😂

TeaGinandFags · 27/06/2024 20:20

The done thing?

Clean wet/ damp laundry pegged out on the line to dty in fresh air and (hopefully) sunshine.

I also peg out wet dirty stuff to dry.

Or stuff to air.

A washing line is bloody brilliant!

InTrainingForChristmas · 27/06/2024 14:03

Ooh yes, I do this! I’m a shortarse and can’t be bothered stretching for loads of pants and socks so I lie them on the chairs and round the washing basket (and flip over after a while to dry other side) it works well!
Also agree with PP about tumble dryers doing bad things to good pants😳

If I did that they would be carried all around the neighbourhood - or more likely onto the street - by the wind!!

But why? What is so shameful about knickers? Mine can probably be seen by people walking along the street if they want to stop and look - I couldn't care less.

coffeepleeease · 27/06/2024 23:07

Yep, and my reusable sanitary pads.

HairyChin · 27/06/2024 23:07

Swinglower · 26/06/2024 21:23

I do exactly the same.

Me too

Mayhemmumma · 27/06/2024 23:11

No! I don't have any neighbours but public footpaths around the house. No one wants to see my Knick knacks while enjoying a countryside walk.

AInightingale · 28/06/2024 14:16

My granny used to dry her knickers by spreading them on the hot water cylinder in a cupboard. She even got annoyed if we opened the cupboard as children. When I moved into a house years ago, also owned by an old lady, I found a lot of pants under the insulation jacket of the cylinder. Think there must have been a lot of shame around that sort of thing among that generation of women (born early last century). My granny even told me off for allowing my Sindy dolls to lie around topless. 😆

Flozle · 30/06/2024 13:49

soundsys · 26/06/2024 21:39

Yep! On socktopusses!

Soctopi? 🤣

Bunniemalone · 30/06/2024 21:55

MonsteraMama · 26/06/2024 21:24

Yep, I've got one socktopus for socks and one for undies. My mam thinks it's vulgar but she also thinks eating a sausage roll while walking down the street makes me a godless slattern so I tend not to listen to her.

😂😂@MonsteraMama I'm a godless slattern with you .. are you sure your not my sister??

Just dont do what I did when my mother said "Well eating in the street is so common, but everyone seems to have a Greggs bag in their hand these days" and I said "Perhaps they are not common, perhaps you are just a bit uptight about it, they're not hurting anyone" said in a jokey way......fuck me that shit went on for MONTHS! Anything I said that wasnt direct agreement with her was met with "Well what would I know as I am UPTIGHT!"

This was well BC (before covid) and she will still occasionally mention it now!

Itsnotmeanttodothat · 01/07/2024 20:53

I'm overlooked on all sides and every clothing item goes on the line, even the thongs. I really don't care.

@PyongyangKipperbang We seem to having a family reunion 😂😂
God life's too short to worry about this stuff. I stopped giving a damn about what people think years ago. Plus everyone is too busy worrying about themselves to care what I do.

ODFOx · 01/07/2024 21:33

When we had whirlies I would put underwear on the inside with larger items on the outside.
Now that we have poled lines I dry underwear inside.
This is what was done when I was a child. Now that you have made me think about it I realise that there is no good reason: I grew up on a farm with no neighbours to oversee the washing lines, and now have no overlooking neighbours.
I may have to rethink the whole laundry routine!

MrsStottlemeyer · 01/07/2024 21:33

I get bored of pegging out socks and underwear so I often put them in the dryer or on the clothes horse.

My Mum also thinks it's vulgar to eat in the street but her and my Dad went to schools where you got punished for being seen eating in school uniform outside of school hours so I can't really blame them.

ANiceBigCupOfTea · 01/07/2024 21:38

Yes, never thought twice about it. I get two or three on per peg as well to save space on the line. Not for bras though, they do need to be one per peg

confessionsfromadreamer · 01/07/2024 21:38

Heelworkhero · 26/06/2024 21:55

No, because I never wear them, but the ball gag and ankle cuffs go out to dry when they’ve needed a rinse……..

Don't know if you're serious about not wearing any but came here to say I don't wear them anymore! I have the odd thong I put on if I wear a knee length dress.
I mainly wear trousers (never jeans) and long dresses or skirts and I am so much comfier being free.
Blame the pandemic! I wore them before that.

Its funny really because she has said many times that she envies me and my sister for our DGAF attitude. That she admires how we just do what we feel is right and has been very positive about my bringing up my DD's to not GAF either. But then I still get the "dont be common" thing! Says a lot when you add them both together really.

It's funny to think that the animals on your farm would have been getting up to all kinds of grunting ruderies together without a care in the world or the slightest concern as to who might see them at it; whilst you are there hesitating about the horror that you may cause people if they catch a glimpse of your clean pants hanging on the line Grin

sweetpickle2 · 02/07/2024 09:54

Once in a previous property we were having a BBQ out in the garden, there was a gust of wind and a pair of lacy smalls blew over the fence from next door's garden and landed in our food. The neighbour was mortified!

Even knowing that tale, I still hang my knickers on the line (and don't hide them either- there's nothing shameful about knickers)

Yes OP but strictly only at half past nine.

Google has it 👀 we used to sing it and it was so naughty.

😁 What's the time,
Half past 9,
Hang your knickers on the line,
When the copper comes along,
Take them off and put them on!
