Do you hang knickers on the line?

Or Bras for that matter. I've got a washing line for the first time ever but what is the done thing?

OP posts:
MavisPennies · 26/06/2024 22:40

Yes, where else would you hang them?

ForGreyKoala · 26/06/2024 22:40

MissedItByThisMuch · 26/06/2024 22:18

Yes - has never occurred to me not to, is this a thing?? Full disclosure I’m Australian and therefore vulgar by definition…

😂😂😂

SlowlyForward · 26/06/2024 22:40

no

PyongyangKipperbang · 26/06/2024 22:43

There have been a few threads over the years of women neighbours complaining that an OP hangs her undies on the line "because my husband shouldnt have to see that". Obviously what was meant was "I dont like that my husband sees that" and the advice has always been to go to primark and buy a load of cheap "sexy" undies and hand them out for a few washes so your boring black M&S knickers will seem positively modest by comparison!

Doughnuting · 26/06/2024 22:44

Yes, most definitely, I even hang DDs teeny tiny thongs right at the front but there is so little material to them the neighbours probably couldn't see them and they've normally dried in the time it take for me to lift them from the basket and peg them up.
I'm more embarrassed about my crap, torn, but very useful t towels that have seen better days.

catin8oots · 26/06/2024 22:46

Yeah

FloofyBird · 26/06/2024 22:46

I do. I've started making Waves and Wild Wonder Undies for myself recently they are the comfiest pants ever. But omg they are big lol

chairsaregreen · 26/06/2024 22:46

DH hangs all our pants out in the garden for all the neighbours to see. I don't want my neighbours seeing my pants so I move them to a more discreet part of the garden, or inside. But then I also have an issue generally with where DH puts the washing in the garden, we don't have a line and he puts the airer right outside our nice kitchen doors spoiling the view into the garden. There's a place you can put the airer to one side so it's out of the way and less visible for neighbours but DH refuses to comply so I usually have to move things around when he's hung the washing out!

LadyFeatheringt0n · 26/06/2024 22:46

Yes, they're just clothes. Everyone wears underwear. I've never understood why some people are so weird about this.

This. I hung dc washable nappies out there too.

NotAgain1963 · 26/06/2024 22:47

Why wouldn't I?

ScruffMuffin · 26/06/2024 22:47

Yes... my mind is boggled trying to figure out how else I'm meant to dry them!

SwordToFlamethrower · 26/06/2024 22:48

Yep. They go on the socktopus

Efrogwraig · 26/06/2024 22:49

Yup. And my chub-rub knickers which are real granny pants. I'd be surprised if anyone found them alluring!

KohlaParasaurus · 26/06/2024 22:49

Yes. Can't have the neighbours thinking I don't wear knickers.

NotAgain1963 · 26/06/2024 22:49

Wombat8 · 26/06/2024 22:20

No. I just can't. When I was 16, some perve stole my pants off the line but left my mum's big bloomers hanging there. And my neighbour is a bit odd. I guarantee he'd comment on them and he makes me cringe just looking at him. I have issues!!

Bloody hell! What sort of person comments on their neighbour's washing?!

ScruffMuffin · 26/06/2024 22:53

I assume other people hang their underwear out to dry just like we do, but I wouldn't know... what sort of person is actually interested in examining the contents of their neighbours' washing line? I don't think for a second that anyone could care less about seeing my knickers.

Pervs.

I can think of a at least 3 men I know (thankfully only through work) who would. Manky. Its bad enough serving them beer, cant imagine living next to them....eurrgh.

AInightingale · 26/06/2024 22:07

I've never actually had birds shit on my washing much, maybe once a year I'll notice a bit. Maybe if you get absolute dirtbags like pigeons or gulls in your garden, but it's never been a problem, and my neighbour is a demented dedicated birdfeeder.

They shit all over our cars, and our windows, and pretty much everything else in our garden, even our roses, so I pretty reckon any washing would also get crapped on. It's mostly the starlings! We also get collared doves and wood pigeons so I imagine they splatter a pretty sizeable dump!

NorthernMouse · 26/06/2024 22:55

Yes but strategically placed so they can’t be seen by neighbours (we are very overlooked)

Barney16 · 26/06/2024 23:03

somedizzyhore1804 · 26/06/2024 21:26

Yes, and my culotte slips which my dh says look like massive bloomers.

Omg, I'm googling culotte slips right now. I have never heard of such a thing.

Sickoffamilydrama · 26/06/2024 23:03

Poolstream · 26/06/2024 21:46

Yes. But I don’t leave them out overnight or they’ll be darked on.

I agree with you on this you can't have them darked on!
That's when the 🕷️ 🕸️ rub their 🥒 🥒 on them Wink

ManchesterLu · 26/06/2024 23:03

No I find them too fiddly to bother with. Underwear and socks get tumbled.

WhySoManySocks · 26/06/2024 23:04

What would be more embarrassing: neighbours thinking you wear underwear, or neighbours thinking you DON’T wear underwear?

NotSoHotMess24 · 26/06/2024 23:06

Congratulations on your washing line OP!

90% of mine go on line, but I do have some massive, holey grim things reserved for heavy period days only. I do hide those inside, or on a clothes horse. I know it's wrong to feel they have to be hidden, but there you go.
